Michigan and Drake Harris
Was on Tim Sullivan's chat earlier, where he said Michigan is "in pretty good position with (Drake) Harris" as a response to a poster who asked the likelihood we strike out on all top 3 in 2014 McDowell, Harris, Webb. Was surprised to hear him say that about Harris, and I didnt get a chance to get him to elaborate. Since when are we in a "pretty good position" for him? I guess Im grasping for hope here, awaiting the return of a dominant WR who can don the 1 jersey again, because right or wrong, I feel that until that 1 jersey comes back out with a dominant WR, then it isn't the real Michigan back yet.

We were Drake's second choice of course we are sitting pretty good after he opens up.
January 25th, 2013 at 1:26 PM ^
I don't see/hear any evidence of being in a good position, when there now is OSU, LSU, Alabama, etc, too.
January 25th, 2013 at 3:04 PM ^
Bama and OSU offered a bunch of the guys from this class too... If we don't think we have a chance at a Michigan kid because an SEC team offered, we might as well start wearing green and gold.
January 25th, 2013 at 3:12 PM ^
...because we'd be Baylor?
January 25th, 2013 at 3:48 PM ^
No, I get it. The point is, their clown costumes aside...it isn't "Go Green, Go Gold" these yahoos are yelling at sporting events. Sooo....
January 25th, 2013 at 4:36 PM ^
Right, I get it. He meant Notre Dame.
January 25th, 2013 at 1:26 PM ^
What does that say about Malik? Ugh I hope he doesn't go to ND...
January 25th, 2013 at 1:30 PM ^
Nothing. Having a good shot at 2 kids increases your chances of not striking out.
January 25th, 2013 at 1:42 PM ^
per Sullivan... "I would say they're the leader for McDowell, and in pretty good position with Harris. I would say 2/3 is just as likely as 1/3 at this point. If Michigan whiffs on all three, it's definitely a failure on their part, but I just don't see that happening"
January 25th, 2013 at 1:42 PM ^
Question: "Fair to say that top 3 '14 kids in the state are Webb, McDowell and Harris. Seems like it is more likely than not that Michigan ends up with none of those three. Do you agree, and if so, is that a failure on the staff's part?"
Tim Sullivan: "I think it's way too early to predict that Michigan lands none of them. I would say they're the leader for McDowell, and in pretty good position with Harris. I would say 2/3 is just as likely as 1/3 at this point. If Michigan whiffs on all three, it's definitely a failure on their part, but I just don't see that happening."

But I would pass up a great receiver on the outside to have 4 years of big donkey punchers smashing holes open for __________ (fill in the blank) running back, and consistant 10-11 wins seasons. That would be back in my book. We can do that without a WR wearing number 1, i.e. 2006.
Oh and keep up the defense.
January 25th, 2013 at 1:47 PM ^
Manningham was a pretty good receiver.
January 25th, 2013 at 1:52 PM ^
So were Arrington and Breaston.
January 25th, 2013 at 1:53 PM ^
But no one brings him up in the same conversation as Braylon or AC. No one is calling for an "86" legends patch...
January 25th, 2013 at 1:59 PM ^
People might put him in the conversation if he hadn't skipped his senior year.
Also, he was kind of a pothead and a dick.
January 25th, 2013 at 2:06 PM ^
and I wish he would have given us the chance to put him in the conversation. Guess that's why we have the saying "Those who stay."
Also, that inside info is great.
January 25th, 2013 at 2:28 PM ^
So he's Braylon Edwards minus the senior year. Got it.
January 25th, 2013 at 3:35 PM ^
You know how many guys wore the #1 that we're not calling to have a legends patch for, either?
January 25th, 2013 at 4:31 PM ^
McMurtrey? (Sp?)
January 25th, 2013 at 5:28 PM ^
but kolesar, alexander, toomer, terrell and walker were all pretty damn good.
January 25th, 2013 at 6:29 PM ^
Amani Toomer did not wear #1, either did Walker. Unless that's not what you're saying.
January 25th, 2013 at 9:32 PM ^
A future legend, and if he wore 1 he'd be that quality. Where you point out a lot of great Michigan receivers who didn't wear 1 except for Terrell. McMurtry, Alexander and Butterfield also wore 1, but none of them are going to be legends. I'd certainly be happy with (almost) any of them. He was saying Manningham wasn't in the "1 category" but he was at least as good as some of those guys who wore 1.
January 25th, 2013 at 1:52 PM ^
So the 1997 wasn't the "real" Michigan? Or what about any of the teams before the late '70s? Pardon the snark, but in the history of the program the concept of the #1 jersey going to a star WR is a relatively recent development.
January 25th, 2013 at 2:01 PM ^
I don't think Michigan will ever really be "out of it" for Drake Harris, even if they're not in the driver's seat.
January 25th, 2013 at 2:17 PM ^
Agreed....
And that is quite far from being in "a pretty good position with Harris", hence, my forum topic. I think Sullivan misspoke.
January 25th, 2013 at 2:19 PM ^
"A pretty good position" doesn't have to mean #1.
January 25th, 2013 at 2:04 PM ^
Do want.
January 25th, 2013 at 2:08 PM ^
I know what you're trying to say here but just because they are not highly ranked out of HS as you are requesting they be doesnt mean guys like Darboh,Chesson,Jones etc cant be #1 worthy..those are some very capable kids
January 25th, 2013 at 2:12 PM ^
Want him. He picked little brother and then opened up his recruiting when sec schools started to offer........ Is what I'll say if we don't get him. If we do then I will say how awesome he is and how he only committed to state until he realized the bigger football schools were interested.
January 25th, 2013 at 2:15 PM ^
Actually, he decided to open it up after Ohio State offered...
January 25th, 2013 at 2:16 PM ^
What in getting at right?
January 25th, 2013 at 2:18 PM ^
Despite the poor typing skills, yes, I get it.
January 25th, 2013 at 2:22 PM ^
Shouldnt you be in school learning or something? I'm going to guess your of a young age, as no mature fan flip flops with the "he sucks, oh wait he committed to us, he's awesome"...that is if your getting what I'm getting at.
Yes, I understand we have our adult trolls too who do the above, but I notice I said mature fans.
January 25th, 2013 at 2:51 PM ^
We came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL
January 25th, 2013 at 4:41 PM ^
A sarcastic post
January 25th, 2013 at 6:37 PM ^
You're.....
January 25th, 2013 at 2:25 PM ^
Actually, he opened it up when he decided to focus on football and not basketball. MSU isn't as appealing when you are playing for Dantonio instead of Izzo.
January 25th, 2013 at 2:30 PM ^
This is the truth. The timing of it all was misleading, but Drake spoke to Tom VH about opening up his recruitment about a month before OSU offered, it's just that he didn't make it public right away.
January 25th, 2013 at 3:20 PM ^
True, but he made it public when OSU offered.
January 25th, 2013 at 3:44 PM ^
Yeah, I read (not sure if from him directly or not) that he decided to focus on football because he started to realize that he stands a much better chance of making it to the NFL as a tall, fast, gifted WR than he does making it to the NBA as a wing. He decided to drop basketball altogether when he realized that football season (and playing for national championships) would severely cut into basketball season.
Now, he can't really be considering MSU if he's thinking about playing for football national championships, right?
January 25th, 2013 at 4:49 PM ^
"Coach D is lying in the weeds" re national championship aspirations for Sparty.
January 25th, 2013 at 4:46 PM ^
That would almost be the best part of getting him. Watching dantonio go apeshit
January 25th, 2013 at 2:37 PM ^
You seem to be implying that Darboh, Chesson, etc. are not, and will not be worthy of the #1 jersey. A little premature, don't you think? For all we know, one of these guys could be the next Braylon Edwards.
For the record as well, Darboh was pretty highly rated coming out of HS. Rivals top 250 if I remember correctly, got an offer from Florida. Hate using the SEC as a benchmark but we kind of have to.
January 25th, 2013 at 2:39 PM ^
I'm a GR Christian guy, and if I gotta keep hearing all the hype and the this and that surrounding the kid for another year, he may as well go play for my favorite team. Go Blue, Drake. It doesn't get any better than what's going down in Ann Arbor. Sports, books, all of it.
January 25th, 2013 at 4:37 PM ^
A GR Christian guy (class of 2006 here) and a Michigan fan....just like me. The only thing is, I am a Knight guy, not a Flying Dutchman guy....oops.
January 25th, 2013 at 11:06 PM ^
You and I are pretty OT here, but I'm not a Hope guy, just a Dutchman (as you probably are as well) and with showing the flag and all, needed to add a little more to the handle. I went to Western.
January 25th, 2013 at 2:56 PM ^
Its gonna be a looooong year for this class.
January 25th, 2013 at 3:09 PM ^
maybe not... if in this upcoming year, we have success, and OSU doesnt? The table would turn mighty fast.
January 25th, 2013 at 3:21 PM ^
It's always a loooooooong year. Just think of how long Michigan fans have been talking about Laquon Treadwell...
