Michigan-Alabama game not imminent according to DetNews
Didn't see this posted yet. Perhaps Brian can confirm with another source?

Brian did get a shout-out though and these sound like standard denials to me.

That's what I figured... the schools would probably rather want to make a big splash in the media instead of word being leaked on a blog.
But, ESPN and SI I'm sure want to get their hands on this sort of information first. I guess this is one of the perks of being a team specific site. I wonder if ESPN will try and claim they "are confirming M and Alabama will play..."
The Sporting News (not surprisingly, since he's done work for them) also mentioned Brian by name.
Of note, the Paper that Shall Not be Named did *not* mention MGoBlog. Big @#$%ing surprise...

Brian has major credibility. If he felt comfortable posting it, I think it has a high probablility of being true.
Further, I believe Brian made it a point (around the time of the McGuffie transfer) not to break news just to break news - he wanted to make sure these things were practically done deals before reporting on them.
Even in the case he gets this one wrong (which, for the record, I highly doubt he got this wrong), he's built up enough equity that it shouldn't matter.
While I think it's true that most visitors of MgoBlog won't bat an eye if this doesn't actually materialize, I also think that the site's profile will be elevated if it's correct. I saw an artcile from what looked to be an Alabama MLive type webstie that linked to MgoBlog. If the report turns out to be false, then this will be "just another blog that jumped the gun."
I trust that Brian thinks this is all but done, however stranger things have happened.
I agree that Brian has a lot of credibility, but he occasionally jumps the gun a bit. If you want an example, look at the panic attacks about Brady Hoke and Kirk Ferentz as our new head coaches. This site is more reliable than most, but his holiness Cook is not infallible.

I imagine I can get by with another autumn Saturday up early, a bit of traffic, nice bit of tailgate, a few beverages, some barbecue, a walk to the stadium, visit a few friends, "band take the field", shoelace, tate, mike martin, short walk back to the tailgate, a bit more visiting and there we are...
I don't think Jerry Jones can top that.

yes, but this would be a HUGE feather in RichRod's cap vis a vis recruiting for this and next year's class. this is a marquee game on par with playing in the national championship in most recruits' eyes (without actually needing to win to get there).
How is this even close to playing in the national championship? This is more akin to a crappier version of the standard OSU Michigan game - a marquee matchup against two traditional powerhouses in a regular season game. You can't even compare that to the postseason, let alone the NC.

Don't Herbstreit it, Brian!
and it makes the media look bad if a blogger gets info before they do. Brian doesn't post things based on poor sources and I would be surprised if he is wrong about this.
before the local media can distort. It was also communicated on 950 AM today. Go Blue!!!
maybe UM wants to see the rest of their big ten schedule before finalizing anything?
The people I told about it will think I'm a genius. Hope we didn't jump the gun. lol.
Though it is funny we don't seem to mind the department links at times like these...
Of course the game's not imminent - it'd be in 2012
