Michigan a 4 seed in latest Bracket Matrix

Submitted by MH20 on

After the most recent Bracket Matrix update (today, 1:10PM), Michigan is now the top 4 seed, unsurprisingly dropping from their previous spot as the second 3 seed.

36 brackets were updated today; here are the seeds given to Michigan and their frequency:

  • 2 (one bracket -- all hail HoopsHD!)
  • 3 (six brackets)
  • 4 (21 brackets -- including ESPN, CBS, and Yahoo)
  • 5 (seven times)
  • 7 (one bracket)

Once again, Drew's Bracketology, who you'll discover is a Minnesota fan if you click over to his page (or just read this sentence), is quite bearish on Michigan (and Iowa), listing both as 7 seeds.  His bias does not carry over to his Gophers, though, as he has them barely in the field as a 12 seed.

Other B1G seeds according to the Matrix:

  • MSU: 2 seed
  • Wisconsin: 3 seed
  • Iowa: 5 seed
  • OSU: 6  seed
  • Minnesota: 10 seed

In addition, Nebraska is now listed on two brackets as a 12 seed.  For reference there are currently 81 brackets in the Matrix.

Over at TeamRankings, Nebraska has actually taken over the spot that Indiana occupied just a few weeks ago as the Big Ten's "outside looking in" team with a projected 17% probability of getting to the tournament. Their definite teams:

#2 - Wisconsin

#3 - Michigan State

#3 - Michigan

#4 - Ohio State

#5 - Iowa

#11 - Minnesota

Still don't really get the State hype at this point in the season. They've gone down hill and their previous standing was driven by beating a pretty good Kentucky team early and OSU before the bubble exploded. I was okay with keeping them ranked with the injuries when they first came up, but once you start losing you've got to go. I would make them a 3/4 seed at this point using the "your seed corresponds to your rank relative to the teams in the field" logic.

Gotta love SI's bracket "expert."  Michigan is a 4 in the south.  The reason?

4. Michigan (18-8, LW: S3) -- The Wolverines had a terrible week, losing at Ohio State and at home to Wisconsin. They nearly fell out of the top quarter of a bracket, but their six top-50 wins kept them in.

Way to pay attention fella.

These predictions are cool to follow along as the teams progress through the season. However they kind of frustrate me because things change soo much. Who knows where Michigan will actually be seeded come March. I really only see us losing one game at most, and if we get past State at home, I see Michigan winning out the rest of the season. I hope we end up at leaset a #2 seed.
