Michigan 2013 Instate recruiting

Submitted by Bluestreak on

Having seen the offers we've given out on the soon to be wiki, it is surprising to see so many offers outside of Michigan.

So far - I counted 4 in the 65 odd offers we've given out.

Shane Morris (MICH commit)

Wyatt Shallman

Steve Elmer (ND commit)

Jourdan Lewis

Is Michigan's talent pool shallow next year?

Also- is it just me who is bitter about Steve Elmer? We could sure have used his talent next year (which generally seems a weak year for OL in the country)

when you're rooting for the other team in an atmosphere of 115k, your mind is clearly made up on where you want to go. It sucks but it will hurt a lot less if we get LTT.

P.S. I replied to your comment to specifically tell you that I love your photo and "The devil and god.." is the best album Brand New has made.

Deja was good for what it was, but IMO, Brand New took a HUGE step forward creatively with Devil and God. The lyrical content alone is incredible - while they've always been personal (even self-depricating, almost to a fault), Devil and God definitely was just more grown-up.

That said, I was emensly dissatisfied with Daisy.

Speaking as a reformed Texan, I do not trust O-Linemen from Texas. The style of play in Texas gives the advantage to the offense and athleticism. I find them to play with very little grit compared to linemen from other areas (mainly the Midwest, as that's what I have to compare). I think that level of competition leads them to be overrated. But who knows, I haven't seen these specific candidates. I just harbor that abiding suspicion.

But if you disagree, fine. As a rule it's still exceptionally difficult to pry top level talent out of Texas and bring them this far north.

Thank you for posting that little gem this morning.  I NEVER get tired of that clip....so much so that the avatar just looked up at me (she was at the game too btw) and asked "are you watching that AGAIN?"

I think my favorite part (and it's all good) is when not 5 seconds after the line "he's a poor thrower" he goes quiet and then says in the lowest voice possible "Michigan is going to score....I don't believe it".

The full audio is awesome...the before and after of that clip from Michigan scoring to ND scoring to Michigan scoring again, and all the debate and angst after it, it's worth it.

That'll go down as one of the all time great nights.

It sounds like recruiting in the state of Michigan is going to be great at the top (Shane, Elmer, Shallman, Lewis, Reschke, Riley Norman, a few others) and then not that great after that. So based on the 4 you listed, that's a good start this early.

that said i dont think that Reschke and Norman are any better than Kalis, Magnuson, or hopefully Diamond from this year.  I think Braden was very underrated may be better than either of these '13 guys as well.

That said, I'm glad we got our OL numbers this year.  LTT will be an outstanding prospect, and hopefully we add a couple nore next year too.

As much as we'd all love to have Elmer in the class, he's about as solid as you can get to ND, same way as Shane/Dymonte are to us. The talent in state is quite thin, but it's still worthwhile to pick up a few if we can maintain relationships and pipelines.

Ohio again is as stacked as ever so we're gonna do some cherry picking there.

I don't understand any player commiting to Notre Dame.  And this is not just Michigan bias.  I mean if you are a 4* to 5* OL recruit really concerned about education like Garnett you look at Michigan, Stanford, maybe Wisconsin.  Because from a football standpoint ND has been irrelevant for 25 years.

And worst of all, are you that self loathing that you want to play for a vitriol spewing purple maniac?

I don't get it either, but they have tradition and the NBC thing.  Also it must be a big deal for Catholic families if that is what they are looking for.  From what I heard, the Elmer family are serious Catholics.

Steve is anti-michigan, plain and simple. I don't think he's ever cheered for michigan ever in his life. He grew up a michigan state fan, but wants the academics of notre dame. Some kids just don't like U of M, and for that you can't blame them!

I hate ND as much as anyone, but it is a great school, a beautiful campus, is near a great city, has a great alumni network, its own tv network-what part is hard to understand? I hate them, but every domer I have come to know personally I really like. They remind me of us.

How can you be bitter about a kid, going to the school he rooted for? Would it have been nice to get him? sure, but there is plenty of talent on the OL we are looking at.

how is Dantonio going to get the #1 kid in-state?

Oh wai,t I am sure he will find one service that has one of his two "locks" listed as #1

Hole is found a fantastic job, BUT we cannot continue to loose out one the #1 player in the State at each position moving forward. We already lost Burbridge, Elmer, O Brien, etc. Reason I say this is we will need to finish off Michigan strong every yr and go heads up with "Liar" down south w all the Ohio kids. Burbridge kills me seeing as we have the #1 QB next yr coming in and the O line w be sick.....The fact Elmer shunned us already that's a tuff pill to swallow as well.

<br>I'm looking forward to a top 10 class next yr as well... Go Blue!

I am not bitter about this year's in state recruiting even if we lost on Burbridge - because MI was deep and we did phenomenally well in keeping most talent.

However, with Steve Elmer I was disappointed because

1) Plays in position of need

2) Local Kid in shallow talent year

3) Committed THIS early to another school

Yes I understand kid has supported ND all his life and I am not mad at him for choosing ND. Just disappointed at the whole situation
