today. Seems like Touissant won't be available for Alabama.
well that's just, like, your opinion, man
today. Seems like Touissant won't be available for Alabama.
Miss one practice. Out for game a month away. Jump to conclusions much?
Welllll, thank you all. I'm going to be tired all day tomorrow beacuse now I have to stay up to watch Office Space.
Hoke's previous track record with suspensions, and I'd say that I have a pretty reasonable case to argue.
It's Toussaint. Let's get his name right.
I'm really looking forward to watching darboh's career. Here's to hoping he picks up the offense and team chemistry quickly!
I wouldn't put too much weight on the Roundtree comment. He was probably going to say a receiver, and there are only two to pick from. All that really tells us is that Darboh looked better than Chesson, or Roundtree likes him better.
but not just Roundree:
Denard said Darboh had a couple catches today that shocked him
Obviously just one practice, but interesting nonetheless
That's better. Hearing it from two guys is good. It would be interesting to see who the D guys think is the best frosh.
Where does "frosh" come from? Is it just not wanting to shorten "freshman" to "fresh"? Is it that a players first year of playing comes in either their "fresh" or "soph" year, leading to "frosh"? I've always wondered about the origins of that term.
"As early as the 1850s a Harvard senior, Benjamin H. Hall, observed in his book A Collection of College Words and Customs that "In Germany, a student in the gymnasium, and before entering the university, is called a Frosch, -- a frog."Although the American use of the word frosh is not solidly attested until 1915, its similarity in sound, sense, and social milieu to Frosch argues strongly for a German origin."
This is taken from this article:
All the points to you, good sir.
Daily usage try: So I guess we'll have to wait and see if Darboh or Chesson is the better frog, huh?
Nice usage. I would posbang you, but I don't have enough points to do that yet. And I think Darboh will be the better frog because he has better leaping abilities.
both these guys are going to be studs. Darboh has dealt with things none of us had to deal with before he came to America, it only made him stronger.
Chesson, is fast as hell and wait till he puts on more weight/muscle and he's got really nice height, i'm tellin' you guys, this Hoke Era is going to be one of the best ever at U-M.
I hope this doesn't mean his throws are off to begin with...
Don't spend too much time worrying about it until they play a game.
I was excited about Darboh long before this comment. Mainly because I like tall fast receivers and our lack of wr depth.
For what it's worth. I had a conversation with coach Mallory this spring, and the freshman he was most excited about was Darboh. He said that unsolicited.
Mallory recruited Darboh, so I wasn't sure how much validity to give it and one practice does not a career make.. but so far so good...
Interesting note on R.Miller.
That almost assures Brandon Moore will be on the field with a freshman starting in packages where there are two TEs. Look for it to be Funchess IMO.
Not sure Funchess will be used as much as a blocking TE at this point in his career.
Why would it have to be a freshmen? Why not Paskorz or Eddins?
Is this sarcasm?
I'm not saying either of those guys are going to be stars, but they've run the offense at TE in the spring (and looked OK) and have college athlete bodies. Might they get beaten out by a freshman? Sure. But to right them off completely in favor of guys one practice in is premature.
Who though Steve Watson would be the #2 TE last year? Whoever is the most consistent blocker will likely be the #2 TE, and I wouldn't bet on a freshman (unless it's Williams).
Paskorz looked like a stiff donkey this spring. A stiff donkey who had never played TE and couldn't catch. Eddins looked more natural and equipted to handle TE than him. I still expect to see Moore followed by the two frosh. Maybe Ricardo sparingly but I wouldn't count on it.
I get what you're saying, but AJ Williams didn't even run a route last year, and Funchess is about 20lb away from being a small-ish TE. And neither of them have played against college football players before. Annointing them at this point is tough to do.
I see him getting a lot of reps out of a two tight end set split out with Moore at home. He's never going to be a traditional TE. We've always figured him to be more Hernandez than Gronk. I'm sure that's what the coaches had in mind when they were recruiting the kid. I can't remember having a tight end this athletic and I can't wait to see him killing linebackers and splitting cover two for 6.
I believe that Funchess will eventually become a match-up nightmare for teams. Just think about Bellomy or Morris throwing him the ball.
Stiff Donkey is the best player eval I have ever heard haha
MIke Kwiatkowski could play blocking TE too.
He didn't do as much practice in the spring either, which was a result of his performing so well last year. As punishment, Hoke may have put him onto conditioning more.
Will Darboh wear the #1 tomorrow? Should Denard let him win the Heisman?
I think Darboh will win the Heisman and then give it to Denard as a kind gesture to an outgoing senior. Amara will then win the Heisman the following three years.
....that one time when Andre the Giant beat Hulk Hogan for the belt and surrendered the title to the Million Dollar Man they ended up vacating the title and had to have a tournament to decide the next WWF champion.
Against my better judgement, I am starting to get real excited to see Big Will play up to the level we all thought he would when he committed. If Hoke says he will play well, by gosh, I believe it. Fergodsakes.
I've heard that that young man is just working real hard, is committed to the Team, and is just looking Tremendous!!
Pulled from a tweet from our own TomVH - (Link)
Per the article, Hoke chose to sit them, but he also says that it isn't an indication, one way or the other, of their availability in Arlington on the 1st.
This is very promising. I don't want to get too optimistic yet, but I will be cautiously thinking the best. I wish only the best for our athletes and support them 100%, and hope they get to see the field.
Mixed feelings. We will really need Fitz on 9/1, but a DUI is a pretty serious charge. If it's the right thing, Hoke should sit him.
I thought practices were closed to the media.
I'm betting some guys were allowed to field questions after practice.
That makes sense. It seems like Hoke had a presser and some players were interviewed. I don't have a sub to scout, but if you do there are player interview videos.
It seems like the only access the media is going to practice is when the BTN comes in. The media will not even be allowed to watch the stretching like they were able to last year.
Roundtree on Darboh: "He's big, I was like man you've got the size of Ricardo Miller. But he's really fast and he's strong."
Edit: From Chantell Jennings.
One hell of a backhanded insult towards Ricky Ricardo Miller by Tree.
I wonder if Heiko was able to be there for the pressers after practice.
Programming note: Hoke transcript will be available shortly after I eat.
Starting to feel a bit more comfortable with wide receiver position. I know it's early but the size of Darboh and Gardners athleticism it is looking promising.
Still won't know for certain until they put the pads on, but IWR is dropping down in my list of concerns for Team 133 as well. Interior OL and DL is the primary concern for me now.
Im with you on this one. The good thing about a "question mark" is it's not necessarily bad. Hopefully worrying for no reason.
Why are you worrying about ANYTHING regarding this or any football team?
Taking things a bit to literal. Just don't know how good they will be because some good players were lost to graduation. Guys were moved around. Soooo uncertainty takes place.
They're words on a screen. I can do nothing but take them literally.
The uncertainty is in fact exciting. It'll be fun to see who takes a step forward.
So I guess you don't notice sarcasm either? But agree exciting is what it is.
If Darboh and Gardner have draft worthy size and speed, that would go a long way against Alabama. Hard to spread them out and open up running lanes if the WRs aren't any threat.
You're also forgetting about the potential of state track champion Jehu Chesson, and program veteran Jerald Robinson. There are plenty of lottery tickets on the team. Don't worry about WR.
Worry?!?! Why would you worry about something related to football ever?
I wouldn't! I have no control over Team 133.
So you've never worried about something you have no control over? Never worried it might rain on the day you planned your beach day? Never worried your 401k might lose money? Never worried that car coming up fast behind you might not be able to stop in time?
Lots of people worry about their football team. Stop trying to make it seem weird to do so.
I worry about irony. Rain on my wedding day. Winning the lottery and dying the next day. I'd give you good advice, but you might not take it. MGoBlog gives us all a free ride (but I've already paid).
I'll worry in 30 years about my 401K losing money. Right now I hope it does because then I up my contributions and watch the shares rebound.
Nerd talk aside, it IS weird for people to worry about college football teams/games/recruiting/etc.
It's just a game. It's fun to watch, but when it's done, it's done. No amount of worrying done by anyone here will change anything on that field.
I love the dichotomy between "people attach too much importance to sports" and "come on these are sports we should be worrying / concerned about these things." If you're not on the team, why you'd worry about that team makes absolutely no sense to me.
You have it backwards.
People tend to worry less about things they have more control over. Anxiety stems from uncertainty regarding outcomes we care about, especially when those outcomes are unpredictable.
Sports is the perfect recipe for anxiety: people care about the outcome, but they can't control it. That's why superstitions are so common in sports (and gambling); they are essentially attempts to feel in control.
And this is a beautiful post
It's not much, but I will take anything right now. Just when I thought we were moving past the PSU mess, rogue PSU trustees pull me back in.
Denard, on Thomas Rawls: "When you see him coming, you better get out the way."
This makes me think of ludacris song 'Move Bitch'.
I think you just gave Rawls his theme song for the next 3 years...there's also a nickname in there somewhere, I just can't find it right now
I'm really excited for Rawls. He didn't do as much last year because he just didn't have a good enough handle on what he was doing. Now that he has a full season and a full spring under his belt, I think we could see big things out of him.
I thought the real reason he didn't play much last year was because he got hurt. That's been mentioned by the team / coaches.
Denard, on Will Campbell's weight loss: "I think he's showing off his stomach more than me." Claims he still has the better abs
IM SO EXCITED (pointer sisters voices)
I'm. So. Scared!!!!!!!
I could see an argument for letting them practice with the scout team or some similar demotion but not letting them play. That way you can at least keep them engaged with the team and keep an eye on them until things get sorted out.
But its pretty hard to quibble with most of Hoke's decisions at this point.
Until proven otherwise, I will assume Hoke knows what he is doing. He knows his players well, I bet he is trying to stir the fire within, when they are back they will play with even more hunger.
I need to hear good things about the defensive line. I think WR is secondary to our D-line. Anyone know what Black, and Roh are up to now from the Weight Update thins morning??
Roh is 281 and Black is 279. This is now updated on mgoblue.com.
18-minute direct quote is up:
Wish I knew how to upvote... #bodogblog...great timing sir
Don't worry we will let you know how to upvote right about when you get your 100th point ;)
I'm confident we'll beat Bama now. After the first practice it's been determined that freshman WR darboh is a beast, Will Campbell is all of a sudden playing like a five star stud, and The Alabama defense will move out of Thomas Rawls way. Easy Captain!
Getting really excited for this season. So funny denard untied the shoelaces. Gonna miss that kid! This team is huuungry can't wait to watch them eat!
Anything about Chesson?
No and his career will now be a failure because of his lackluster performance in his first practice ever.
Really interested to see how Darboh performs this year.
