Michigan #15 in AP Poll & #18 in Coaches

Submitted by 2Blue4You on

Michigan dropped to 15 in the AP poll this week.

Big Ten Teams

AP                                     Coaches

MSU 9                              10

Michigan 15                    18

Iowa 16                            15

Wisc 21                            21

OSU 22                            20

Seems about right.  Last week we probably should have been about 13/14 and not 10/15 so given the results, a modest dip for getting blown out on the road by a decent Iowa team.

Michigan 15
No big deal to me, I'm fine with that. I
rankings don't matter right?
Unless it's a really absurd ranking, I don't worry too much about it. Just time to get through this stretch of games (esp. winning @Ohio at their place and MSU at Crisler).

The seedings are going to count the most.  Michigan needs to come up with a "counter-punch" to the "neutralize Stauskas and make somone else beat you" approach that teams are taking when defending Michigan right now.

John Beilein has proven that he is very good at adjusting to other teams' adjustments.  Consequently, I am confident that this team will be playing their best ball at the end of the season, just as I thought all along.

The "counter punch" should be GRIII but he is an elite athlete that cannot dribble, shoot well, create his own shot, or get to the line.  Soooo frustrating to watch when you hear all the NBA hype that is based on zero production in my opinion.  Most of his production last year was ally-oops and open dunks off of Burke dishes.  I don't think he is capable of dribbling with his left hand either.

So now our "counter punch" is Levert free lancing.  This has been a pleasant surprise, but he is still a bit sloppy and does not always have his endgame figured out when he is slashing.

Agree 100%. GRIII seems to have no left hand, and defenses play him accordingly.  It also seems like he gets the ball slapped out of his hands more than any player I can remember.

Here's how the AP ballots broke down for us -

#10 - 1 vote

#11 - 1 vote

#12 - 6 votes

#13 - 11 votes

#14 - 9 votes

#15 - 12 votes

#16 - 7 votes

#17 - 7 votes

#18 - 3 votes

#19 - 2 votes

On the far end of the range, you have 1 vote each for #20, #22 and #23 with two unranked - John Feinstein and Sean Morrison cast those ballots, or perhaps not since that's how it will show up on Pollstalker if you didn't submit one.

How does MSU not drop at all after losing @Wisconsin? Not to mention they have lost 3 of the last 5 with a bad loss to Georgetown included.

Michigan dropped 5 spots from #10 down to #15 for their loss @ Iowa.

Guess the whining is working.

That's what happens when you constantly make excuses. I personally think they're better without appling and Dawson and I'm serious. They miss Dawson's rebounding and physicality but the guys replacing him have scored way more than Brandon would of. I also think trice is a much better player than appling. He makes his free throws and has a better jumper and plays better D. Payne is the best player in the Big ten, he's damn good. Now that he's back they should quit the griping. I don't think the missing players they have now are effecting them as they continually lead on.

Eh, as much as I love hating on MSU and Izzo, just losing at Wisconsin they way they did and not dropping doesn't bother me too much.

Michigan dropped 5 spots from #10 down to #15 for their loss @ Iowa.

Again, not too horribly concerned.

Guess the whining is working.

Izzo is the king of whining, it's disgusting. Staee fans are just as bad.

15 makes sense if they're listing the number of wide open looks per half that Michigan has been allowing to their opponent.

For the first time all season, I'm siding with the coaches poll (or lower).

This team still has a lot to prove, now that they're facing some significant adversity for the second time this season.  They answered the bell exceptionally well the first time around, so I have confidence they can do it again.

I really don't think he does. I firmly believe he is and always will be a role player. I just hope he can improve his D/rebounding enough to play a Dawson type role for the team. Because right now, there are some game/multi-game long stretches where he literally has ZERO effect, aside from taking up space. There is no excuse for him not bringing down 7-8 boards per game with his athletic ability. Thats just my opinion though... Man.
