Michigan #12 in AP poll

From Wolverine nation's twitter. We are not ranked too high, this is Michigan for God's sake.

However, I really don't understand why they think this.

In 2010, Denard had a higher completion percentage, more yards (and it's not even close: 2570/1631), more touchdowns, a better TD-INT ratio, less sacks, and higher YPA. That's without bringing rushing into the comparison, where Denard had more yards (again, not close at 1702/965), more YPC, and more TD's.

There isn't a single yards, average or TD statistic that favors Taylor Martinez, as far as I can tell.

It would be tough to get to #5 that soon.  Too many good teams would have to lose.  In addition, the loser of LSU and Bama will still be ranked higher.

Arkansas, Texas and Okie State have some good challenges, but Stanford, Boise St. and Clemson have some easier games.

Good polls are more a symbol of expectations.

For me, the pathway to Big 10 championship is more enticing.

While every Big 10 game is valuable, I think most people are waiting for four key games:

1) MSU game - to determine bragging rights for the state of Michigan,

2)Nebraska game - not very popular, but beating Nebraska is essential to winning the Legends division.

3) the Ohio game - it just feels good to make Jim Tressel eat his words.

4) If we can pull it all together - Big 10 championship game in Indianapolis - probably playing Wisconsin, unless they make a mistake.

Also the Illinois game will be interesting after the triple overtime win last year.

As Hoke said at the press conference, win the Big Ten championship and the rest will fall into place.  Don't worry about rankings just yet.  While  it is cool in the fact that it will give the team some notoriety, rankings have never been a clear indicator of where any team (especially Michigan...#2 before the Horror) stands,

I'd like to hear an explination from Jon Wilner, David Just, Chadd Cripe, Ray Fittipaldo and Andy Staples as to what justifies a team with a 58-0 conference/ trophy win dropping from their previous spot.

I guess they could have had M in the high 20's/30's before, but that's still ridiculous.
