There's still the final FBS coaches' poll left to determine the final Fall rankings.

We'll see how Stanford does against the #3 team in their division of our conference in their bowl game to see if they can get any closer to us...

This has always been the case - good academic schools being good across all-sports.

If you are a football player, you might be faced with a choice of the school who will put you in the NFL, or the school that will give you the best education.  Same thing with basketball, and to a lesser extent hockey and baseball.

For all other sports (which constitutes most of the sports), there is no choice, because you know you're not going pro.  There are certainly other factors that come in to play (facilities, tradition, proximity to home), but if you're getting a scholarship to Northwestern and Kentucky for girls soccer, that choice is a lot different than if you're a mens basketball player.

Or maybe, like everybody else in the world, Mr. Brandon does things that are worthy of praise and he does other things that are worthy of criticism.

Michigan's trip to the final four in volleyball is no reason that the athletic director should be immune from criticism for, e.g., those football uniforms.  The two things have nothing to do with each other.

But of course you knew that, and yet you told me to "shut up" anyway.

Obviously you're right, but it seems like you're ignoring his point simply because he worded it poorly (which I agree that he did).

His point was (not so elequently stated) that people should also give DB his due when things like this come out.  People are very quick to jump on DB for uniformz, piped in music, etc, but they forget that he has done a pretty amazing job in many aspects of his position.

Every uniformz post has multiple "Fire DB" posts, joking or otherwise, but every lacrosse post, for example, almost never includes a single "Thanks to DB for bringing us men's and women's lacrosse" which is a much bigger positive than bowl jerseys are a negative.

Fair enough, but he (along with another poster of a more active thread today) is portraying this as an "all or nothing" situation.  Brandon has done some wonderful things, and some awful things.  The wonderful things, I agree, outweigh the awful things.

My criticism of the "special" uniforms does not imply a rejection of Mr. Brandon's other, better decisions.  The fact that the good outweighs the bad in Mr. Brandon's administration should not make him immune from criticism.  Instead, it makes the criticism even more important, because Mr. Brandon could be a perfect Athletic Director if he could just learn to get over some of the attitudes he appears to have brought from his previous job.

I just chose to be an ass, because that's how people talk when they're berating DB for jerseys, band, night games, etc.

His coaches are winning, he's building world class facilities, Michigan is Michigan again. Yet people don't want to give him credit because they don't like the business, money making side of him.

Michigan is #2 in the country in revenue behind Texas. #2!!! In Michigan? A depressed state who's biggest city is trying to recover from an economic crisis.

That's a miracle and deserves praise.

attest that DB certainly supports the "other" sports.  He is at the softball games often (I assume baseball as well).  He gets around campus for sure.  Billy wouldnt leave his office (if he ever showed up).

Overall DB is a positive for the AD; although I have certainly critisized him recently.  The only way I would advocate to fire DB is if Brad Bates was available.

Here are the current Capital One Cup standings.....

http://www.capitalonecup.com/

Obviously, the scoring system is quite a bit different from the Directors Cup.  Michigan is 7th in women's standings and not in the top 10 in men's.

All right Lemmings. Bring the heat.

Does most every school have water polo as a club sport or they only give credit only for the top 4 spots? Either way seems silly to include that sport. MIght as well include the solar car racing team then...

Why would you not include it as a sport?  The whole point of the Director's Cup is that all sports are equal.  The point is not to see who is good at the revenue sports, it's to see who is good at all sports.  Water polo is a sport, and Michigan happens to be very good at women's water polo.

Basketball (both programs), Softball and maybe Hockey if things can pick up after this shutout win can carry Michigan down the stretch to their first ever Directors Cup.

Michigan should also collect some significant Directors Cup points in men's gymnastics, swimming, tennis, wrestling, as well as women's gymnastics, rowing, swimming and tennis.

Stanford is the heavy favorite, but some good stretch runs from some of those Michigan teams (and some timely upset losses by Stanford) will give Michigan an outside shot at the title.

We fell to #2. It would be MUCH closer if the FBS point allocation structure wasn't so horrible. We finished 44th in football (vs MSU and other unranked (Coach's Poll) finishing 26th. It's a 20 point swing to be an unranked boll winner vs and unranked boll winner. So from 26th in Coach's poll to 44th in Director's cup.

FBS Football

The following breakdown will be used:

  • 1st place - 1-25 using the USA Today poll, point breakdown is as follows: We will be using the 64-team non-bracket point system for the top-25 teams with 25th place receiving 49 points.
  • 26th place - Bowl game winners not ranked in poll (45 points)
  • Next Available Place - Bowl game losers not ranked in the poll (25 points)
