Michael Schofield signs 4 year $2.75 million contract with Denver
Congratulations to Schofield. Lots of hard work is paying off for the young man.
According to the Denver Post, Schofield "has been impressive early, getting some reps with the second-team offense during the Broncos' organized team activities this week."
I predict Schofield will have a very solid career in the NFL.
I think he'll end up being like Jonathan Goodwin. Ten years from now he'll still be playing and Michigan fans will be saying 'Wow that guys still in the NFL? I had totally forgot about him'
Yup, and he'll be a millionaire. Weird, that's kind of how he was as Michigan too. Quiet and you almost forgot he was on the team.
“It gives us a lot of different options," Executive Vice President of Football Operations/General Manager John Elway said after drafting Schofield. "With his versatility he’ll start at tackle and move inside and play some guard also."
Among other Wolverines, I always had a feeling that Schofield was one that could definitely carve out a niche for himself in the NFL and do well, so it is great to see him get a nice contract and get an opportunity to play in the pros. It's also nice to see these words from Elway which seem to indicate they have multiple things in mind for Schofield too.
That's a nice little chunk of change. Congrats to Schofield.!
good for him!
that a certain OL coach isn't quite as horrible as some have been fearing. Anyhow big congrats to Schofield going to my long-time favorite NFL team.
I had the exact opposite reaction. I still can't wrap my head around having two NFL caliber tackles and still putting that OL inefficiency on the field. Yes, I understand that the supporting cast was full of RS Freshmen (or a true freshman) and a former walk-on.
However, Alex Kozan (remember him) is pre-season 2nd team All-SEC at Auburn this year. He's in the same class as Magnuson, Kalis and Braden (and was lower ranked than two of them coming out of HS). The kid was on the starting OL in the MNC game last year! I don't think that it's completely unreasonable for RS Freshman to at least be effective at the B1G level.
This is a BIG year in the determination of OL competence (both players and coaches). I definitely think that it's possible to put a good group on the field this year.....we'll just have to wait until August to find out.
Absolutely. I'm not trying to assert that Funk is the second coming of Jerry Hanlon—there's no evidence for that kind of optimism, unfortunately—but I don't buy the notion that he's literally incapable of coaching OL. If he was that incompetent, Schofield wouldn't have just signed a multi-million dollar contract with the Broncos.
Whether he's good enough to put together a truly effective OL under a supposedly more focused OC is the question now.
And yes, Greg Frey was an underrated OL coach who might well have been the best assistant RR hired while he was here.
Greg Frey?
and potential from afar, but great to know he's impressing so early in OTAs. Always pulling for the guy who's hidden (from some) in the shadows of others.
I didn't make nearly that much in my first job out of Michigan.
/s
Fully expect him and Lewan to do well in the pros.
Very well deserved. Proud of him, happy for him. I hope that we can point to Long and Molk and Lewan and Schilling and Schofierd (I know I'm forgetting a few) as examples as we return to regularly producing NFL talent.
Albeit in an ongoing practice squad/injured reserve type role, zero career games in the NFL
