Michael Jordon (NTMJ) to Ohio State

Submitted by DrMantisToboggan on

The 4* OT from Plymouth, and probably best player in the state in 2016, just committed to Ohio State. He was thought to be a Michigan lean and Michael and his father had said many times that his recruitment would not be ending anytime soon. This commitment seems both fishy and soft, and I am sure Jim and Staff will continue to hound this kid. He is a very important get not only for his skill set and position, but also to help fend off the growing perception that Michigan does not prioritize players from the state of Michigan, especially kids from the SE portion of the state. Definitely a player to follow, hopefully we can get him back to the good guys.

Yeah but Tennessee and note dame still pull in top recruits despite doing jack. If we don't get another recruit by memorial day I'll start to be a tad worried. 3 4 stars and 6 recruits total is a little low compared to past years.

So apparently the players in the state go to OSU. Seriously I think that is 3 of the last 4. I would like to hear again from the Michigan fans who were rooting for Ohio in the playoffs. This is what you get

..the real reason to cheer for OSU to beat 'bama and not get blown out in the Championship game was to raise the national perception of the B1G, that way if there is a 1 loss B1G champ in the next two or three years they dont get left out of the playoff by an undefeated Marshall or worse yet the SEC runner up.

Of course those fucknuts didn't need to win the whole thing to accomplish that, hanging close till the 4th would have sufficed.

However there still could be a benefit to recruiting next January when OSUx has a full class and we land a few solid 4* rather than high 3*.

..there's enough "recruiting" talent on UMs team to be that 1 loss B1G champ this year or more possibility next and that might mean a birth in the playoff now that OSUx showed. Under those circumstances that win would be great for Michigan!

Not to mention it doesn't help your team learn the competitive edge playing against a bunch of "suck ups".

If you really want to boost the big ten you need teams like Northwestern, Iowa, Minnesota stepping up to provide depth and strength of schedule. If we beat 10 cupcakes and finish 10-2 I doubt they're really going to care if we had a conference member win the national title a few years ago. If we beat 5 top 25 teams then you boost your argument more.

I agree, however the counter argument to that is you need an established national championship team for these underlings to beat. Iowa beating a a 10 win OSU is good or whatever, but Iowa beating defending national champion OSU is a lot better. It's the reason teams like South Carolina can ride a close loss to Alabama in September all the way to a top 15 ranking. "Ohhh South Carolina hung with the champs, they must be good!"

I think that's more with having multiple schools win national championships. If you have one great team and a bunch of crappy teams nobody's going to care if you guys win the next 10 national championships. We need to have a stronger PSU and Nebraska and elevate Northwestern, Purdue, Illinois, Iowa from mediocre to respectable. In the SEC they have top 25 games nearly every week.

If we beat them this year it will certainly help us. Beating the National Champs in Year 1 sounds kind of nice. Besides, the point is I don't want to be equal (or better) than OSU by having them get worse; I'd rather have us rise to their level. One of the best teams in the country is not in some other, untouchable conference. The best is right here. To be the best you've got to beat the best. Let's get to cracking some Bucknuts.

You would think having the best offensive line of the 4 playoff teams and winning the first ever undisputed national championship may have played a part. If promulgating false illegal recruiting tactics makes you feel better, by all means drink the cool aid. Never a good thing to lose any top 5 recruits in a state that has very limited elite prospects. definately a bad trend for um football the last 3 years. the strategy is to force um to spend more time in state than in ohio, essentially limiting the man hours in ohio. going to be tough for harbaugh selling um against ND, MSU, and TOSU. not to mention cherry picking the best of the michigan elite football talent.

PS- um#29 TOSU #54 please stop with the false academic superiority mantra.

Does anyone else feel pity for the young man?  If you're going out of state at least go somewhere nice.  Bummer for him.

I thought it was wierd when Lorenz put in a crystal ball for Ohio State today. So Corley says Michigan has gone pretty quiet in recruiting him, MJ just commited to Ohio State, Kareem looks to be going to Alabama, and Hill is currently commited to PSU. Not a good start on the in state kids.

First Kyle Brindza and now this kid? What is going on with the kids out of my hometown?! At least we have Brennan Beyer.

Definitely too early...seems like a soft committment at best.  Not saying there wasn't anything dirty in the way he was committed but take a step back and just see it for what it is...Winning has a way of persuading these 17/18 year old kids.  It's been a while since Michigan has been consistently relevant.  Most of these kids are too young to remember 97 championship.  They have seen OSU consistently beat Michigan. (Sad but true) Jim Harbaugh will right the ship but it's going to take wins to start bringing in these top recruits whether its in state or out of state!  Recruits will understand very quickly why they will want to play for Michigan and Harbaugh!   Go Blue!

He attended the Ohio State spring game, and then went back with his father, mother, sister, and brother*.  Anything's possible, but that doesn't sound like a decision made in the heat of the moment or without thought.  This isn't your best case scenario for a flip target.

*It is not reported if they were accompanied by the family dog.

Chill out, folks. Recruiting will pick up once Harbaugh has an actual product to sell recruits. As of now all he is selling is potential. Meyer has actual results.

This is the honeymoon phase where he should be getting just about any recruit he wants.....pretty telling that Michigan sits with only 6 commits, in which half of those are 3 stars. Even Hoke was pulling in 5 stars after further driving the Michigan program in the ground. Whatever Harbaugh is selling has to be better than whatever Hoke was selling. Guess not.

Hoke's first full season would have been the 2012 class right? He was hired in 2011. If so, these were the 7 commits:

Ben Braden- 88 composite (3 star)

Royce Jenkins-Stone- 93 composite (4 star)

AJ Williams- 89 composite (4 star)

Devin Funchess- 90 composite (4 star)

Joe Bolden- 96 composite (4 star)

James Ross- 94 composite (4 star)

Mario Ojemuda- 90 composite (4 star)

Compare that to Harbs first 6:

Eric Swenson- 92 composite (4 star)...really a Hoke recruit, but for the sake of this post, Im counting him as a Harbaugh recruit.

Brandon Peters- 92 composite (4 star)

Matt Falcon- 91 composite (4 star)

Dale Harding- 86 composite (3 star)

David Reese- 85 composite (3 star)

Kingston Davis- 83 composite (3 star)

HOKE's first 7 average: 91.43

Harbaugh's first 6 average: 88.16

OUCH!

is that Harbaugh and staff haven't spent much time recruiting in Ohio.  If that's true, and he isn't prioritizing Michigan, where is he going to get players?
