Mich-EMU. A perfect football day. Thoughts.

Submitted by Happyshooter on
First off: This was the first Michigan football day in many years that I was cold stone sober. Not a drink until after the game. Without a tailgate my wife and I were way early for the game and stopped off at broken egg for breakfast. Good stuff. Rolling into the game we stopped everywhere to shop. Lots of cool stuff this year. To start with the game recap, the calls were crap in favor of EMU. The worst was the robinson catch review, but the refs seemed to give EMU every doubt and to be quick against Mich. Weather: perfect. The new shops: perfect. The new women's shop: My wife says perfect but too small. I was as scared as I could be when Tate went down hurt. I realized that to me he is the team. Robinson is a maybe for next year. Tate is the 2009 Michigan. The defense line is not all that good. A few good plays in the middle of what seemed to be a high school quality defense. The worst was of course Paris running the same play five times in a row for a touchdown drive while Mich's defensive coor seemed to have his head up his ass. The end of the game was the gem we knew it has been. Even though it was EMU, I still felt a little misty eyed when the team went to the student section for the Victors and the cheer. I was a little put out that the team streamed off the field during Colors. That needs to change. Tate is golden. Robinson is good at running, and got robbed of his good toss---but that was his one good toss. He is not a Michigan QB yet. The team rests on Tate. Bands: Michigan played EMU's song better than they did. I really missed the Yellow and Blue pre-game. Why does M have a male baton twiller? The Music was very inportant this game. They need to start it 10 seconds sooner than they do for downs.

I think the most important thing for the defense is that they made adjustments well as the game progressed. It isn't easy to stop an offense that is rolling on a particular drive. No points in the second half is the key.

Well said. I think it's also somewhat expected at this point that the D will have some issues/growing pains. The fact that EMU's offensive production was barely around 100 yards for the second half as well as no score bodes well. GR and the D coaches appear to be making good adjustments at half time. The fact that we are 3-0 and exciting to watch is beautiful. I think people need to appreciate how hard it is to rise from 3-9 to the top level. Even though the team is way better than last year, it does take time to improve to the level we'd all like M to be at.

The last sentence made me lol. I was at the Notre Dame game last week, and his performance was what I would say is sub-par. I was also wondering why we had that (most likely gay) baton twirler, and I thought it must be because he is good. I usually don't watch the half time show, but I decided to stay in for that game. I watched the band come out and then I noticed that the single dude baton twirler was on my side of the field. I focused in on him and noticed that he was absolutely CHUCKING that baton in the air. One problem with that, I watched him drop two straight throws and then, IIRC, mess up a spin behind his back or something. Now, I don't know much about baton twirling, but that seems like it's not a guy that is too good. I do think he may have been pretty nervous, but he should realize people don't care about baton twirlers and just relax next time if that is the case. But seriously, I don't think the kid is very good.

I'll admit that part was a little much, but come on he's just one of those slightly feminine guys that you would be surprised if he wasn't. I'm not against gay people or anything, just a statement. I guess I just happened to catch the guy on an off day. I'm guessing that one thing is the reason I got negged. My bad...

Again, not totally sure what I'm being negged for. If you don't like my opinion, then that's not really something to neg me for. I owned up to my original comment and gave myself a my bad. I'm pretty sure that all I said there was straight opinion and shouldn't be offensive in any way. I guess sorry I have an opinion and chose to share it on this message board. It's one thing if a couple people call me out so I can figure out why I would be negged on those, but I guess no such luck.

You're being negged because it's stereotypical and it's not worth mentioning. What does mentioning that you think our male twirler must logically be gay add to your other comments? Not much, if anything. It makes you look like a homophobe, particularly when you go out of your way to say, "Hey guys, I'm not gay, but I have no problem with teh gays." Got it?

when Tate went down and was clearly in pain. - I agree about the defensive adjustments at halftime; I was somewhat chagrined to think we could be in for a game in the second half. Coach Robinson also did a great job in the ND game with adjustments. - Denard looks to have the strongest arm between the two freshman and that might come in handy if he learns to use better judgement when he uses it. - A point of concern is our depth; Molk is a significant loss, hopefully we don't suffer any more. - Yep a nice day, overall. Now though, the innocence, the naivety of the beginning of the year is over; now the standings, the rest of the nation, begins to matter. Ranked teams have been upset, and we should be moving up in the rankings, but it also serves as a warning that if we are not wary/prepared/lucky it could happen to us in the future. - ND 33 MSU 30 I love saying, "Sparty No!!"

Oh, and note I was sober as could be. When EMU's band took the field and i saw the flag girls I couldn't help but sing "Fat bottomed girls make the football world go round". Someone at EMU dressed those poor girls that way and sent them out on the field. As for Mich, our girls were hot as always. Tate is our team.

What's wrong with having a male twiller? I see no problem. We had a male in our colorguard in my high school competitive band. He was one of the coolest guys I have known. He was damn good and ended up being the in the colorguard for a DCI championship with the Blue Devils. The male twiller in the MMB is perhaps one of the top twillers in the nation. That is why he is out there.

But just because somebody that twirls a flag in a football doesn't make them gay. The United States Marine Corps twirls their guns in drills as does the army. Doing something of that nature DOES NOT by any means make somebody a homosexual.

You are using Bonetti's Defense against me, ah? I thought it fitting considering the rocky terrain. Naturaly, you must suspect me to attack with Capa Ferro? Naturally...but I find that Thibault cancels out Capa Ferro. Don't you? Unless the enemy has studied his Agrippa...which I have.

I was most pleased with the depth we seem to be developing in the backfield. Today was the sort of Michigan victory we've been accustomed to in the past: shredding the opposition with a potent, balanced running game. On the negative side, our linebackers aren't sniffing out running plays all that well, there seemed to be many times where they failed at beating an offensive lineman off the ball or filling gaps correctly to make the tackle/sack.
