Go Blue! The stream on http://www.firstrow.net/sports/basketball.html just disappeared for me. No!
MI vs. Syracuse Open Thread
I'm really fighting the urge not to neg you.
I figured the girl might help you to resist.
GO BLUE! I don't really care for brunettes... :)
Do you see that pic?
just stop that. you stop that right now. she's an innocent young lady.
I didn't remember John Wallace looking so good...
Derrick Coleman has never looked better
So is the only way to see this game to pay for HDNet on line? (Because Comcast is the worst service provider on the face of the planet and apparently I'm in one of the few Comcast areas where HDNet is not offered - of course.)
Uhhhhh we can't find a stream for this?
Ugh... How can Morris be that poor of a shooter?
Ive looked everywhere and cannot find a stream for this game...im very sad
AT&T in Ann Arbor has HDNet (ch 1105).
What times does this game start?
Started at about 7:55.
Jordan Morgan looking really smooth early! That's a sight for sore eyes.
Paging Fab Melo, paging Fab Melo... please call the white courtesy phone.
and Go Blue
Finally found the game. Didn't even know my comcast carries hdnet. lol.
are you in and what channel?
Anyone know of an internet stream?
Under 16 time out. Morgan with 3 buckets and 6 points. 2 of them coming off real nice passes by Morris and the 3rd off an offensive rebound put back. Novak with a 3 pointer. 12-9 Syracuse.
Melo pulled, he needs to stop anything under the basket and force Michigan to shoot from distance.
Not a terrible start. Hardaway has to hit atleast one of those wide open threes and we can't have Darius making poor decisions like he did early on the fast break, but nice start nonetheless.
Morgan isn't the most athletic guy, but man he looks great down there compared to what we're used to as far as true big men go.
If anyone can find a live stream please post!
Morgan doing much better this season than I think anyone expected. Credit to Bacari Alexander IMO
Ugh.... I really hate the long leash Beilein gives on 3pt attempts. 2-7 from downtown, though probably 3 of them were very poor shots...
As I write that Metrics hits 2 straight to make it 3/8...
You can tell they're much better, but they're going to live and die by the three.
I could be mistaken, but that seemed to be the case for each of the past 3 years (albeit with a good percentage of those threes coming from Manny, and being somewhat ill advised).
Belien's teams live or die by the three.
It's hard to beat a team when you're shooting 33%, but they held a pretty talented (not sure if they're really the #10/9 team) to just over 40%.
Meh, it wasn't awful, and it gives me hope that this team might surprise a couple people.
TV listings were not in the paper, I knew I would find a tip here, thanks!
Smotrycz hits two threes in a row (listening to audio from mgoblue.com)
Jordan Morgan with a great hustle play and Darius falls asleep and can't get back on our side of the half... Gotta like the start though.
Under 12 time out: U of M is 3 for 9 from behind the arc. Smotrycz has a pair of triples! 15-15. Looking okay so far everyone!!!
Don't be fooled by SU's ranking, they are nowhere near the 9th best team in the country.
We have three true freshmen on the floor and they're talented but they're very raw.
Morris has had some nice passes to morgan. Morgan is finishing. Looking ok to good to start the game.
Courtesy of umhoops.com
I love you.
I would like to petition Brian to allow us to award 10 points each to you. That is the coolest thing I've seen anybody do here in a while.
Kudos to you. I'd buy you a beer or three if i could.
So far, looks like Kris Joseph is tearing us up. Probably a matchup problem honestly. Are we playing mostly 1-3-1 or man so far?
Under 8 Time out: U of M shows a little 1-3-1 from man, which they've pretty much been in the first part of this first half. Struggling a little on the defensive glass. But doing great work on the offensive glass.
Stu has looked a little overmatched when handling the ball... Vogrich hits a triple (he needs to stretch this zone!!) Trailing 21-20
Whew, this offense sure has stagnated without Hardaway and Smotrycz in the game. I dunno if having Douglass and Vogrich in at the same time is the greatest plan, but at least they can possibly bail you out with a 3pt bomb like Vogrich did. If anything, this second group has bought some great time in the game without giving up a run. Defensively it's no surprise they switched to the 1-3-1 with the second unit. It'll be interesting to see if they go back to man when the starters return.
STUUUUU with the deep 3!
Under 4 Time Out:
Stu hits a triple, a long 2, and a 3 from about half court, looks like he gained some confidence during the break! Forcing a Time OUT by SYRACUSE!!! 30-25 BLUE!
Timeout Syracuse! Well done boys!
30-25 M with 3:43 remaining.
Wow Morgon....I mean...wow. Where did THAT come from?
Stu Douglass from 25 feet? me likey.
I've ever seen.
I guess there are some positives that come along with HDNet's terrible under-the-basket cam (which they stay with way too long)
Stu off the bench is good for us. He/we struggled last year with him in the starting lineup. He's much more effective coming off the bench as a sniper/backup PG.
they'll keep it up.
Worst we've looked all season, and that includes against UofD. They better wake up.
... is just fun to watch, maybe it's because we are winning but im having a great time watching.
Really looking like we can play with this team. I know they might not be the true #9 team in the country. But this is a great start for this team!
Morgan slips after a great feed from Morris. Would have been big.
But I really like Morgan. Definitely looks like he could be a gamer down the road
This is my first chance to watch the team. Douglas looks confident. Morgan looks very good. I would like to see more touches for Hardaway. I have been pleasantly surprised thus far. Hopefully Michigan can continue to impress! Go Blue!
But Smotrycz has to know the situation and not shoot that 3. We could have held it til the last shot of the half. Hopefully, we hold Cuse here.
And then a phantom foul call on a Cuse drive
I'd much rather have the wide open three.
If neoavatara makes a thread about Syracuse going down I will make him eat his parents
At the half: playing quite well, rebounding well, especially on the offensive end. novak tried a 2 for 1 possessions and we had the ball with a chance to run the clock down, but smotrycz took an open triple.
Syracuse continues to try lobs into their bigs throughout the half.
31-29 lead at the half! and only 31% from behind the arc!
Way to go boys! Great first half for Michigan.
To win this game we'll need to hit those open threes in the second half. Other than that, they are playing very well.
FIrst BB I've seen this year, and just curious; is the name "Hardaway", or is it actually "Hardaway, Jr"?
It is Tim Hardaway, Jr., as in Tim Hardaway's son, whose name is also Tim Hardaway. (After his dad, Tim Hardaway).
Yeah, I get that. The addition of the "Jr" just seems weird to me.
Yes, that Tim Hardaway.
If you have ATT, the game is on HD net. channel 1105
Getting outrebounded 10-4 on the defensive glass is unacceptable. Michigan is outworking them.
it's very acceptable.
RE: your sig, "For every day until Greg Robinson is fired, I shall kill a kitten."
It just occured to me, you've had the short end of that stick twice now. My condolences. Hope you get the short end of one more stick tonight, though! :)
What is up with these John Anderson orchestra weird singing commercials.
What the hell is HDNet anyway?
I am going to extrapolate this half of basketball and say UM is a top ten team in the nation and deserves a #3 seed.
Ugh... not a great start to the half. TO and Smotrycz and Morgan pick up their second fouls. Need to slow the game back down.
33-33 with 17:43 to go.
HDNet is on comcast channel 382 for any who are lookingg for the game..... (kinda late i know).....
9-0 run. So much for slowing it down. Dumb turnovers.
Calling a blow-out already?
NIce first half
Bench outscored SCuse 13-6
Michigan top two scorers, Haradway and D-Mo, only combined for one point
Should be a fun second half
Did the announcer just say that Michigan is now in danger of a blowout? Down by 3?
Let's hope we come strong off the TO.
First time seeing them in action (finally having cable access is nice), and I gotta say, I really don't like these adidas unis. That little collar deal makes zero sense. Along with the stripe on the jersey and shorts.
Get a big 'ole Fab Five-era M on the side of the shorts and call it a day.
how deep you are willing to reach to complain about something.
I think most people agree with you. I am not a huge fan of these either. They could be worse though - they could be Oregon football jerseys.
Kris Joseph is playing a great game. I remember when Amaker was recruiting him as an underclassmen and up through his junior year I believe. He's a good one, and Canadian at that.
Nice 5-0 run off the time out by Blue! Cuse responds with a bucket, but turns it over on their next possession.
40-38 Cuse with 14:29 to go.
I'd be pretty dissatisfied at how Michigan is outhustling them to rebounds.
And if I were a Syracuse fan who was also aware of how atrocious Michigan is at rebounding, I'd be flat-out disgusted.
Oh don't worry, I am.
We played awful.
and I'm a biased UM fan, but I feel as though the refs are being a little tick-tack on their calls.
What a terrible shot from Darius. He's really not on his game tonight...
And then he slinks his way through the D for a nice little floater
Yup. Mea culpa. He's had a weird game though. Several weird decisions, only 4 points*, but some sneaky passes as well.
* I love how the PBP guy said of Morris' last bucket "It's been a long dry spell in between buckets for Morris...". Hasn't he scored the last two buckets for Michigan? Or two of the last three maybe.
I'm pretty happy with how we're playing tonight. First time seeing them this year, but we seem pretty composed. I also like what seems to be some nice depth off the bench.
Can folks throw some score updates on here? The mgoblue.com gametracker isn't working for me, and I don't have HDNet.
Morris not looking good right now.
Morris, Douglass, Novak, McLimans and Vogrich is quite possibly the worst lineup I have ever heard of.
44syr-40mich 9:26 to play
44-40 Cuse with 9:57 to go.
Morris with two TOs in a span of 20 seconds :/
Michigan getting hosed on some foul calls
Are you serious? The Michigan slap, slap, slap defense has gotten away with a lot tonight.
Yeah. I am serious
how about the fact that in the second half, the fouls were Michigan 12 Syracuse 4? I'm not blaming the refs, but you have to admit they were pretty one-sided. Every single call that was even somewhat questionable went Syracuse's way.
Michigan cannot get a bucket now.
44-40 Cuse, 8:39 to go.
Cuse ball, Morgan picks up 3rd foul...
Hardaway with a fastbreak dunk from Douglass.
44-42 Cuse with 8:00 to go.
Or are these announcers pretty terrible? And some of these calls seem fairly ridiculous as well. Granted, I'm fairly biased.
Meh, I think they've (refs, announcer's views of calls) have been pretty spot on.
The Smotrycz block wasn't a ton of contact and maybe could have been let go, but you can't argue it as a foul either.
Syracuse is being agressive w/ the ball, and as a result they've drew more fouls.
Damn, Horford hustling his ass off, almost comes up with a big play. He'll really need to beef up, gotta be able to muscle those boards.
but I'm PUMPED for Jon Anderson and the Contemporary Youth Orchestra.
Sounds like we're hanging right with them. Just need to take better care of the ball!
We look awful, this team needs to come together bigtime before January.
Find a Syracuse board.
It's my one-stop shop for the game and The Game.
Stop cheering on your team, especially when playing Michigan. No one but you gives a shit about Syracuse.
Choosing to air your complaints on a Michigan opponent on a Michigan board -- and yet pull out the win, still -- is just like pouring salt on the wound. You could have kept your comments to yourself.
I'm not mad. I'm just....disappointed.
I apologize, I'm a fan of both teams, enjoyed seeing them play each other again. Hoping I get to see it on a regular basis as in-conference in the future (at which I'll relegate myself only to an SU board, I promise).
i've got plenty of friends that have dual loyalty with their undergrad and grad alma mater, so i completely understand.
now get your bottle of wild turkey and prep for tomorrow. see you on the boards.
Already have the orange off and the maize and blue on, drink in-hand and ready to go.
44-42 Cuse. Cristian w/ off ball foul. 7th team foul. Cuse goes to the line and misses first.
Rebounding foul on Cristian, Cuse again misses front end of 1 and 1. Mich can't find a bucket again.
Still down 2 w/ 6:20 to go.
is really bad. He's a very smart guy and his commentary on the halftime shows is good, but he's been terrible at color commentary tonight.
Plus he seems to love all the terrible calls going against Michigan
BIG 3 by douglas.....!
STU for 3!!!!
45-44 Mich w/ 5:40 to go.
Jump ball off a rebound, Mich ball.
45-44 Mich w/ 5:18 to go.
Shot clock violation :/
Cuse ball, 4:47 left.
syr 47- mich 45 4:21 to play....
Morgan needs to shoot that ball. Syracuse wnt 5 minutes without a basket, but Michigan couldn't get any points either.
49-45 Cuse w/ 3:09 to go.
Mich ball w/ less than 10 sec on shot clock.
Cuse splits at the line.
50-45 cuse w/ 2:27 to go.
Mich ball, Morgan draws shooting foul. Misses first, makes second.
TO Syracuse, up 4 with 1:59 to go.
Morgan needs to be going up strong like that all the time. I don't care that they've got a couple 7 footers or they've blocked a couple shots. Not going to get to the line if you don't attempt to put it in the basket.
One of the commentators is a HUGE homer. What an annoyance.
Ugh terrible possession.
Morris needs to stop acting like a Freshman. This is his second year running point. Trust your teammates.
51-46 Cuse w/ 28.5 sec to go.
Hardaway puts in a prayer.
Mich down 3. Syracuse ball w/ 21.8 seconds to go...
Nice garbage shot by Hardaway lol
It seems like Morris can't control himself.
that he doesn't need to/ cannot take over the game like Kobe. The system is to get the ball to an open man. He's good and I'm sure will learn.
Anyway, at least M played hard.
has almost singledhandedly killed us this second half. Just a terrible series of decisions, drives and shot selection (he should not even be thinking about shooting outside 10 feet).
absolutely on fire in the last game. Can't tell the kid not to take open shots and maybe some of his shots were questionable but we weren't getting great looks in the 2nd half anyway.
Cuse hits first...
M down 5 and syracuse has a million fouls to give. DOesn't look good.
Shot selection leaves a lot to be desired, but at least the rebounding seems much, much, much improved.
Oh well -- disturbed with the lack of composure at the end, but overall, not too bad, I guess. We did a good job rebounding, which was very nice.
Cuse to the line up 5 w/ 5 secs to go. Good game boys.
organizers had a suggestion to the refs and the announcers that it would be best if Syracuse advanced.
So -that's- why we rushed all those 3's...
Michigan's poor shooting will still hold this team back from being anything beyond mediocre. They will lead the nation in passing the ball around the arc until the shot clock is running out and jacking up ridiculous shots though.
Both teams looked bad in this game, and it wasn't due to good defense. Syracuse won't be in the top ten for long.
Syracuse is not going to have the best of years.
Not bad, definitely some promising things to take away from this game! We never folded, which I think everyone would have expected, especially after that 9-0 run. Darius has to play smarter, but that'll come. Hopefully soon, cuz I don't wanna pull out anymore hair...
Michigan is very young and they definitely played hard tonight. They're definitely on the right path and will be just that much better by the time the conference schedule rolls around. No reason this can't be a tournament team in the Big Ten.
Go Orange, Go Blue
Refs were very good. Michigan was relegated to passing it around the perimeter. Syracuse penatrated and drew contact. Very well officiated game.
Not a pretty game at all, but a good learning experience for both teams. Looking forward to seeing this Michigan team mature, they could be a very good team with some time.
Now that this is over, looking forward to tomorrow, let's kick their ass. Go Blue!
or was the second half officiating 'questionable'. And my goodness are the HDNet broadcasters lousy. It was like listening to the 'Cuse radio network.
You can't complain about officiating when you can't hit your (poorly chosen) shots.
Not mad @ that loss at all... they just have to clean up a few things plus the refs sucked.
Cuse has more talent than we do, and this was our first real test, and first game away from Crisler. The kids battled hard, lost their composure at the end, but did alright. Played decent D and did a good job rebounding the ball most of the game (helped that Cuse plays a zone) considering they're alot taller than us. Joseph for Cuse played a great game and I was glad to see Hardaway guarding him, going to help that kid grow up real fast. Didn't shoot the ball great, but we stayed in the game.
Cuse didn't impress me. Not a top 25 team right now IMO, let alone top 10. Can't take alot from one game though.
They look good, but need to find who will be their go-to scorer. Morris may be that guy, probably why he was rushing things tonight. Should be an exciting year. Go Blue!
I think their asset is that they have multiple threats. They definitely look like one of Beilein's West Virginia teams, they're going to be good when this team matures.
Watch out when this team gets hot...they could surprise some teams this year...to bad they dont go inside more.
Get the ball to Morgan. He showed some great post moves and did a good job pulling in rebounds. And to think he's only a freashmen
agreed...how many times can you actaully pass it around the 3pt line...i mean i can coach that.
Great! I'll be looking forward to seeing you patrolling the sidelines.
that Brian Ellerbe posted here.
How's it going, coach?
Ha thats funny shit! crackin up...just sayin that i wish i would have seen them go inside more or have someone flash the middle a little more. looking forward to seeing this team get better and grow. They play good together.
I think that had a lot to do with Syracuse's very, very tall team playing a 2-3. Early on, Morris caught them napping a couple times for quick dishes inside, but it really wasn't there after that.
Yeah as bad as Cuse played we should have won. Then again, we weren't on our best either, but it was winnable, and that's what makes it suck even more.
The shots just didn't fall in the last five minutes, but the guys really battled. Get to some games at Crisler if you can - this team deserves our support.
As I said earlier, if we were to win we had to hit the open 3's in the second half. We didn't and we ended up losing, its all good though we played a great game. It went much better than my prediction, so i'm at least happy. We played as a "team".
This young team played very well against the #9 team and with a few better decisions and made shots they win. I think this is the first year that it will be truly JB's team.
My father, a 'Cuse fan, tempered my enthusiasm. He says that they tend to play up or down to their opponents. Especially in preseason when the scores are close even if they are playing a D2 team.
Still, the went toe-to-toe with the #9 team!
