MGoVideo: Wheatley Jr. & Ian Bunting

Submitted by LLG on

Video starts with

"Too often in sports, we throw out the term “freak athlete” but in the case of Tyrone Wheatley Jr., we really mean it.

Michigan has never had a 6-6, 276-pound tight end with his speed, quickness, footwork and hands. Then again, we shouldn’t be surprised. After all, his father was a world-class sprinter in a fullback’s frame.

Wheatley and fifth-year senior [sic] Ian Bunting are hoping to become the most productive tight end duo Michigan has ever had – that record currently belongs to Jake Butt and AJ Williams, who combined for 63 receptions in 2015. For that to occur, Bunting needs to have an Eric Kattus-like senior season – Kattus making 38 grabs, including eight touchdowns, in 1985 – and Wheatley needs to add another 30 catches...."

I'm looking forward to seeing what they can do, outside the shadow of Jake.  However, I could go the rest of my life without seeing that Alamo Bowl lateral play again. Still painful.

6'6" and 6'7" on the field at the same time will be difficult to defend, especially with Evans in the backfield and guys like DPJ/Black/Crawford on the outside. Boy-o-boy if only our o-line can produce we could be scary.

This team will go as the QB play goes and has more than enough talent to win it all. Michigan's talent level is at an all time high but without consistent QB play it will repeat last year. I actually like Peters to start because I want a QB who can score with his legs to add more pressure to the defense. The difference in the osu game was the QB's as we outplayed them in every other facet. With a consistently good QB we may just have the best receiving corps in the country. Bunting could dominate but needs the touches to produce. We create matchup nightmares if the ball gets delivered acurately and on time. Shoenle a walk on even looks like a five star recruit. Add Perry back to the mix with Crawford,Dpj, Black, Schoenle and our TE corp of Bunting, Wheatley and Gentry we are more than loaded. Just need the delivery system to play well for these guys to dominate.

The difference in the osu game was the dirty skunk, cheating referees. That wasn't just a bad call or two. It was systematic and obvious cheating.

Everyone from Coach Harbaugh to prominent sportscasters knew something was rotten with those referees.

I look forward to vindication and victory in the Big House.

Can we get over this yet? It's embarrassing. The officiating was awful in that game, but even with the bad calls that went against Michigan, OSU should have never been in the game. It was a complete domination for three quarters. The difference in the game was the two picks that Speight threw, and the O-line not being able to get any push in the fourth quarter, which resulted in the defense wearing down.

Yeah shame it didn't work out...they may not desperately need asiasi but they don't have anyone on roster like him. Asiasi and Gary (despite inconsistent play at times) were the 2 frosh clearly NFL bound (though many classmates will join them). And asiasi likely an early round pick too, provided he keeps it together and continues working and progressing. Always hurts to lose pros. Time for Bunting, Wheatley, McKeon, etc to elevate play...

Zach Gentry is a flex TE and he can be a BEAST if he masters the mental side of the game. His combination of size and speed makes him the most athletic player we have in the position group. He's the prototype for athletic freak who can be a mismatch against anyone. I have very high hopes for him.

At his disposal.  If Speight has a solid (above average) season which I fully expect, we could be in for a serious treat.  As always, expectations are high.  I think we will be extremely solid on both sides of the ball.  Start the season already!

On a separate note, I looked up this music video that is shown, and it says it's a song by Bunting himself, it's not bad. Has he always been a singer/rapper?

EDIT: Apparently it is only news to me, either way, good for him for being able to do both music and football while being a full time student.
