MGoVideo is now BigTenTracker.com - Register now!

Submitted by karpodiem on

this probably deserves a more formal announcement but when I saw the internal poll showing (the Spartan capper we have on our team is brining over tons of people from RCMB) 70% of the users on the site are MSU fans (gross), it's time to open up the floodgates and claim our rightful place; Welcome to the next generation of MGoVideo.com - BigTenTracker.com

we're going to have an amazing Fall. Since we've opened up the site with a BigTen theme, we've collected 4 more cappers with HD PVR's, and hope to have around 75% of all (major) BCS games caps.

Plus a ton of NFL games (but our primary focus for September will seeing how many NCAAF games out there).

Go forth and register. And make sure to vote in the poll. Go Blue

and tell your friends on Scout/Rivals/etc.

Also, big big big ups to bndp. Without him, none of this would be possible.

This is in no way meant to be condemning or demeaning, I'm seriously interested in your answer. Is it illegal to upload "caps" of all these games?

I'm not sure but I do know that using a block M in your avatar is. Everyone should expect cease and desist orders in the morning.

BTW karpodiem, it's somehow fitting that you invited mgoboard to our A/V geek site on a Friday night. No date? No friends to drink with? No problem! Come check our new P2P technology!

Only concern I have about this is it makes it a bigger target, more likely to draw attention from the B10 or its member schools.  Hopefully I'm wrong, and good luck with this new site, I know I'll be using it.

... you know, the grub shack formerly known as "Big Ten Burrito."  They mention their naming issues here:

http://btbburrito.com/blog/about-btb/

I agree that you may hear from the Big Ten soon about your domain name (I see you are cloaking via freedns).

Sort of ironic under the circumstances that BTT requires users to read "rules" (which I couldn't find anywhere, BTW).

Rock on regardless...

Not sure why you can't find the rules since there's a link on the navbar. The warning to read them is part of the Gazelle code on which the site is based. I haven't re-written them and care little about what they say. We're using freedns because 1&1 DNS sucks but nothing is cloaked. Have no idea why you're talking about burritos unless you're hungry.

1.  I think his point was that you couldn't read the rules prior to registering.

2.  Big Ten Burrito was forced to change its name to BTB.  He is suggesting the Big Ten may have a similar reaction to Big Ten Tracker.

BTW - "College" is consistently misspelled as "Collage" throughout the site.

1. When you register you have to check "I will read the rules." What's your point? Check it or GTFO. 2. BTB is a business located in the US. BTT is a non-profit website located somewhere else that doesn't care about your laws. 3. Main Entry: col·lage Pronunciation: \kə-ˈläzh, kȯ-, kō-\ Function: noun Etymology: French, literally, gluing, from coller to glue, from colle glue, from Vulgar Latin *colla, from Greek kolla Date: 1919 1 a : an artistic composition made of various materials (as paper, cloth, or wood) glued on a surface b : a creative work that resembles such a composition in incorporating various materials or elements
2 : the art of making collages 3 : hodgepodge

1.  I was just clarifying what he was discussing.  Some people actually like to read the rules before they register for things.  Having a link to the rules at the registration page probably isn't a bad idea, just a little constructive criticism.

2.  I was just clarifying what he meant in regards to BTB, Naming the site BigTenTracker is likely to gather more attention than other names.  All it takes is the Big Ten Branding employee sitting down in her cubicle Monday morning and googling Big Ten  to see what may pop up.  Obviously you aren't afraid of the legal ramifications, that's cool, I like and use the site and would rather it doesn't get shut down.

3.  Fair enough, I thought you were going for a feature where you could sort by school, my bad.

be a prick to him when he says something prick'ish. his comment was tame and an attempt to be helpful. you came off as a pissed off 14 yr old girl being a jerk to the point he thought you didn't understand his post. your snappiness is probably the worst i've seen in weeks - at least people are clever pricks to each other when they're trying to be snippy. this just looked like a tantrum.

Love it.  Is it illegal? Yes. Are users going to get in trouble for using it? No.  The worst that happens with this type of site is that the owner gets a cease and desist letter, stops the site and goes on his merry way.  I've used mgovideo a ton over the last few years, it's also where Brian gets a lot of his videos that he uses for breaking down the game.  Keep up the good work!!

Brian uses 5 second clips of games and comments on them, so he can claim fair use.  Posting entire copyrighted games while using the the "Big Ten" trademark is probably going to get noticed pretty quickly.

That said... i'll probably be using the site.  I just don't expect it to be up for very long.

does this mean you will have torrents for the ND vs MSU and ND v Purdue torrents as well this year?

Your UM/ND game torrent last year was one of the highest quality I downloaded all year, minus the small audio problem you guys had

Are the rules going to be heavily re-written? Seems like it focused on non-issues, for example, not one mention of game torrents, but lots of stuff about music. Just seemed odd.

Thorin

Besides the ratio section, you can ignore the rules for now and use common sense. The site code comes from a music site and we haven't bothered to rewrite (or even read) the rules yet. I'll change the registration check box from "I will read the rules" to "I am not OMG Shirtless" when I get the chance.

In all seriousness, I think the confusion only arose  in the first place because 98.3% of the time, when you have to check a box about rules when you're registering for something it says, "I have read the rules."  Which, if you can't read the rules prior to registering, is humorous. Obviously your code says "I will read the rules."  Hence Sven's comment.

Boyz n da Pahokee: "Have no idea why you're talking about burritos unless you're hungry."

Is why I clarified the BTB statement.

The "collage" v. "college" confusion was an honest mistake.

For once, I was sincere, you'll know when I'm being a jackass.  See:

Re: the copyright stuff;

trust me, if there were games in 720p you could watch, on demand, streaming from the cloud on multiple platforms (the content being platform agnosticl; h.264 in .mp4) I would stop TOMORROW.

this is a shitload of work and I would rather spend my Sunday's doing something else.

But I love college football/computers and my job deals with both.

and I'm flying to NYC on Monday to attend this; http://sportsvideo.org/main/blog/2010/07/15/join-us-for-the-inaugural-s…

so that I can bend the ear of a few of those guys to convince them that there is money in this, and that we, NCAA sports, need to move quicker on it.

Sven_Da_M

... first you say you and your special friend put up MGV because you can't get HD college football anywhere else, and it's sort of a labor of love (time and bandwidth).

Then you say "there's money in this."  For whom?  And you say "we, NCAA sports" need to move quicker?  You see BTT as aligned with the NCAA?

It's clear that sports networks haven't figured out how to profitably provide HD feeds to the college football fanboy niche market.  I don't see the leap in logic how that justifies what you're doing.

But hey, a trip to the Big Apple is always a good plan.  You might be a bit careful about how you identify yourself at the seminar in case the Big Ten has a few deep-cover geeks in the audience.  Will you ask the people at HBO Sports during the studio tour if you can rip and torrent Hard Knocks?
