I've been frequenting MGoBlog for about 3 years now and was an MGoBlogVoyeur for a couple of years prior. As users came and went during that time, occasional introductions were made amongst the user folk hereabouts. I've noticed a bit of turnover over the last few months and thought it may be interesting for everyone to share a bit of background. So, if you're inclined...

Me;
On the precipice of 50.
Marketing Director.
Born in TC, but live in MN now.
L.S.A. Class of '88.
The most MICHIGAN thing? I committed a foul against Gilvani Johnson in an intramural basketball game. The foul prevented him from completing a slam dunk. This turned out to be my team's sole victory in an otherwise not so closely contested 119-42 loss.

Made a "Navarre for Heisman" sign and hung it outside his house the night before the OSU game so he would wake up and see it. Later realized they slept in a hotel. The black shoe polish we used to make the sign stained my parents driveway for the next five years.
I work for U of M as a spreadsheet warrior, I also draw things when requested. Sling some beer on the side too.
Ann Arbor
ChemE 2012
As an 8th grader my friends and I all painted our chests with our favorite players for the 100th game vs OSU (I was Avant). We went to game day on the golf course and got brought front and center for a crowd shot going to commercial.
dirt, 88. They won't let me outside without a posey. Graduated as a doctor of something or other over 60 years ago (last I looked published 32 articles in peer reviewed genetics and molecular medicine journals with over 1000 citations). Married an Ann Arbor girl, best dang thing I ever did! Still own AA real estate I think unless my kids (one a M grad) sold it out from under me. Best Michigan moment? After 5 days of consuming fiber I had a monumental movement and thusly sang hail to the victors.
Anyone still reading this far?

Most Michigan moment: Went to that Michigan-Purdue freezing rain game (final score 5-3 or something). I *think* I stayed the whole game, but I may be misremembering that part. Also a friend and I once ran into Anthony Carter on State Street at about midnight. We somehow ended up in a baseball card store right near Nickels Arcade--not sure if it is still around. (I think the owner let us in--maybe AC was signing cards? The details are a bit hazy.) I'm from Minneapolis, so I started recounting my extensive memories of the 1987 Vikings team (complete roster, specific plays from the '87 playoff games against the Saints and the Niners, etc.) and he was either impressed or disturbed. Probably the latter.
Least Michigan moment: Going to OSU to do my grad work. Downvote away--I deserve it.
Age: 30 Occupation: Attorney
Location: New York (by way of Denver)
Alum: Michigan Law School '09
Most Michigan thing I've done: Paid an obscene amount of money for one day trips to the Bama game, UTL ND games and season tickets, even though I live hundreds of miles away. Checked mgoblog 20+ times a day, everyday without ever posting.
Assistant Professor of Medicine U of M

LSA 72 MED 76
Member of SDS, Locked down LSA for BAM, Negotiated at the table with Robin Fleming for affirmative action, met Bo, moved to NY for 37 years ( Bo told me that I was going in wrong direction), became an Assistant Professor at Columbia and decided in January of 2015 to come back and live my dream. Those who come back will be champions! Go blue!
figure out "BAM"), I'm fascinated when reading about that era of student activism of the late 60's/early 70's, an era that I narrowly missed while still in high school.
I remember the engineers and nurses crossing the picket lines set up by BAM. Great example of non-violent protest.

Most Michigan thing I've done: Lots, lots of options (I'm 55 dammit!) but I'll go with...very frequently wore my "Harvard - Michigan of the East" shirt around campus in Cambridge while in grad school there.
...and yes, IMO, you really were the host of the best talk/variety show EVER in the universe! I've got two of the DVD's and wish I had more.
Occupation: attorney
Location: Northville, MI
Alum: UM-Dearborn 2003

Occupation: serial entrepreneur
Location: New York, NY
Alum: UM MSME 96
Most Michigan thing: was a preferred walkon my freshman year. Lloyd was D Coordinator and he came to my HS with Schmitty to recruit my twin and I to walk on. Mo was HC. Was as an incredible experience as you can imagine being a student first and recruited at small schools and then be on the field with T Wheatley, Jay Rimiersma, Che Foster , etc!!!
Age: 30
Location: Milwaukee, WI
Alum: No; Sparty grad
Most Michigan Moment: Sat on the sidelines of the '97 Michgian/Michigan State game and witnessed the greatest interception of all time. I was in 8th grade, wearing my Michigan Starter Jacket, surrounded by Sparty fans, cheering my ass off and they all wanted to hurl concession items at me...

Creative Consultant / Stay At Home Dad
Alum of WMU
As a kid, I used to mow a giant block M in our front yard on gamedays; before listening to Ufer on the radio.
pronto mister, and since you are a stay at home dad, teach those kids how to do that in case you should ever be rendered incapable of proper landscaping!
When I say giant block M I mean it, the front yard was a beautiful 1/2 acre, and the relief "M" almost filled it.
Now what's your excuse for not having an M made of actual maize that's large enough to be seen from space?
where the obnoxious lady at the townhall meeting says something along the lines of: 'you're married to the biggest horse's a#$ in 3 counties! he plowed under a perfectly good corn field to make a [block M]!"
that'd be a lot of $ in lost crops to carve it out. my kids would be in heaven though - they are dedicated michigan fans, far more than i was at their age. they shame me.
You don't have to plow-under a thing!
Wait, it's still all wrapped in the green planty-shit isn't it.
we plant. was supposed to do it last week, but ran out of time.
nice pictures. plant those yourself? and while i'm at it, how come you have a llama (or alpaca) avatar but a goat quote? cognative dissonance?

Most Michigan thing I've ever done?
Met L. Carr while wearing my, "Ohio - Worst State Ever" T-shirt in which coach commented on and laughed "wow, I've never seen that before - that's great!"
Age: Mid 30s
Occupation: Pediatric-sub-specialist-in-training
Location: Maryland
Alum: Yup. LSA and Public Health
Most Michigan: Does streaking through the Diag count? If not, the first time visiting the wave field with some engineering friends, I ran up and down the hills saying, "pi, 2pi, 3pi, etc..." depending on where I was on the curve. It may have been the dorkiest thing they had ever witnessed. Sports related? I got choked up and couldn't finish the Victors at my first game as a freshman. Was a first gen college grad and there I was living the dream as a student at Michigan (and I happened to be in the 8th row and it was against notre dame).
Age: 40
Occupation: Manager for an Auto Claims company
Alum: BA '97
Location: Wixom, MI
Most Michigan Thing: Well, I've missed 5 home games since 1992- and they were the doozies for the most part:
- 1994 Colorado due to a wedding I was standing up in.
- 1995 Virginia because they weren't part of the student ticket package,
- 1998 Wisconsin because I had the flu- tried to get there twice and lost my lunch on the way so I went back home,
- 2007 against App State because I thought it would be stupid to waste my time watching a I-AA opponent,
- 2010 Connecticut for the birth of my daughter.
Also, I have a Michigan executive chair in my office and ticket stubs from most of the games I've been to hung up on my wall (when I remember to save them).
This would be for hitting save the second time.....
...and this would be for hitting save for the third time. Also known as a "stuplicate".
Let's just say I was hitting the Save button with Enthusiasm Unknown to Mankind.

Most MICHIGAN thing you've ever done? (funny, memorable, etc.) : #1 On my way to campus from Markley during a snowstorm, took shelter in the Natural History museum. I have a super clear memory of my thought process, and I seriously thought that while I might be late to class, I might literally die if I didn't take some time to thaw out. #2 Well, back in my day, we both had the nude mile and it was open to all students . . .
turned into the coolest story thread ever!!! losing valuable work time readying these..but hard to stop.
very interesting peeps here with awesome stories.

Occupation? Tax Manager (U.S. tax specialist)
Location? Geneva, Switzerland
Alum? Yep, Class of '99
The most Michigan thing? Was at my family's place in Ohio over Christmas and was offered tickets to the Michigan v. Texas Rose Bowl if I could "find my own transportation"... after checking changes to my flight, the cost was too great to change, so I flew back from Detroit to Switzerland on the 28th of December, arrived the morning of the 29th, and then took a morning flight on the 30th to fly from Geneva to Los Angeles... great seats... disappointing outcome!
