MgoQuestion: When is OT not allowed?
I know in the Mgoboard FAQ it says during the football season, off topic topics are not allowed. When does this go in to effect since we are less than two weeks away?
August 22nd, 2011 at 6:32 PM ^
in less than two weeks.

11:59:59 AM on September 3rd. If you want meaningful discussion, I would post the OT before lunch on Septmber 2nd. That's an opinion, of course.

NOW!

no discussing baseball? :(

This will really suck if (when) we make the playoffs.

Small price to pay to not have soccer defecate on our fine community for ~4 months.
August 22nd, 2011 at 7:26 PM ^
If the Tigers make the World Series, I'd bet the mods will allow an open thread.
The banned OT stuff is the stuff that is REALLY OT... like dog anal glands.
August 22nd, 2011 at 7:44 PM ^
What if the dog's name is Bo, or Lloyd
August 22nd, 2011 at 10:52 PM ^
Glad to hear that tigers will still be allowed and dog anatomy will be nowhere to be found.
August 22nd, 2011 at 6:41 PM ^
Good, because I was about to post my thoughts on many of the political and religious issues of the day and am glad to see i still can.
August 22nd, 2011 at 8:24 PM ^
I know you forgot to include a "sarcasm" tag, but for those of you haven't clicked the FAQ link, those topics are ALWAYS off topic ... er, not allowed at all.
August 22nd, 2011 at 6:45 PM ^
OT is not allowed when one team has more points than the other at the end of regulation.
August 22nd, 2011 at 9:17 PM ^
Depends on if Joe West is working behind the plate, or if Ed Hightower is reffing and still auditioning for the Four Tops.

I would rather we have a second board for off topic posts. This may sound weird, but I like how on the RCMB they can talk about anything and get the opinions of people who have the same interests as myself.
August 22nd, 2011 at 6:57 PM ^
they have a recruiting board too. And Buckeye Planet has boards for each OT. Say we get a random OT board, a recruiting board, a baseball board, ect. Obviously to complement the MGoBoard which would remain mostly about football and Michigan. That could be cool.
August 22nd, 2011 at 7:54 PM ^
We need a bored board.
August 22nd, 2011 at 7:58 PM ^
a drinking board
August 22nd, 2011 at 8:07 PM ^
Chalk board?
August 22nd, 2011 at 6:59 PM ^
The moment the sum total of posts with 51% or more of negative MGoFeedback in response to OT is greater than the sum total of posts with less than 51% of negative comments in response to being OT.
Or, you know, 12:00 noon Sept 3.
August 22nd, 2011 at 7:34 PM ^
The 2011 college football season begins at 6:00 pm eastern on thursday September 1st, so I would say that is a good time.
August 22nd, 2011 at 7:56 PM ^
The summer is perfect for OT.
During the season it is frowned upon and mostly deleted. At least when Geaux Blue was patroling the board ammirite?
August 22nd, 2011 at 8:01 PM ^
Does he start it the beginning of game week? August 29th this year?

And for those worried about baseball (etc.), he's always been considerate enough to allow one NFL thread, or one thread for outstanding occurrences...like a Tigers playoff game might be. But multiple "did you hear about X baseball player?" type threads in a day? Forgetaboutit. At least if things don't change, and we don't abuse it.
August 22nd, 2011 at 8:05 PM ^
That's right. OT lockdown goes into effect Monday. Local pro sports is tolerated if infrequent. College football OT but tolerated. Big Ten and opponents are on topic always, which never prevents people from putting up OT warnings on posts about Ohio State.
August 22nd, 2011 at 8:07 PM ^
make the playoffs, we might be allowed a game thread?
August 22nd, 2011 at 9:01 PM ^
"Local sports tolerated, if infrequent."
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Tigers game threads during the playoff run are generally OK, seeing as it's one concentrated thread a day. At least that's what I remember from past years.
August 22nd, 2011 at 8:16 PM ^
so i guess this means no more, "hey, i'm by the zoo. what should i have for lunch?" threads. damn.
August 22nd, 2011 at 8:30 PM ^
And if I remember right, one NFL gameday open thread is tolerated, correct?
*and I know the FAQ says OT includes pro sports during the season.

Thanks for actually answering the question instead of being a smartass about it like everyone else...
August 22nd, 2011 at 11:28 PM ^
While the majority of mgobloggers follow football, it always is appropriate to post on any UofM sports topic, obviously, especially basketball and hockey.
August 22nd, 2011 at 11:06 PM ^
is Thursday through Monday, September through January.

I really don't care what OT topics are up..Some of these Mgo'ers are pretty anal though..
