MGoProfile, or lack thereof

Submitted by Six Zero on

Yeah, so it's not gonna happen.

After a celebrated 2010 run of blog personality profiles collectively known as MGoProfile (collected here in the final entry's index), I've heard the rumbling of requests for new 2011 entries continue to grow louder and louder since Signing Day.

Truth is, new developments in both my personal and professional lives have effectively made it impossible for me to continue to meet the deadlines I'd set for myself. Or, at least, to be able to do so and yet still maintain a level of quality I am comfortable with.

As MGoShoe, Brian and others can testify, I went back and forth on this for several weeks now, trying to decide if I can pull it off. One of the biggest reasons that made it hard to decide is because I enjoyed doing it last year, especially because it has been fun building correspondences/friendships with some of the fellow MGoBlog community. Thanks to everyone who helped make it possible last year... and have kept in touch since.

But, in the end, life is just too crazy right now. So thanks for the interest, and sorry.

Unless you guys would be happy with one every two weeks...?

PS
If anyone is truly interested in taking over the concept this year, please feel free to express interest. I'd certainly be willing to hand over any artwork or otherwise help get you started.

I don't think anyone would be upset if it only happened once every two weeks, but if you're too busy to do it, there's no reason to add extra stress to your life.

unless there something worth posting. Most of my points have expired and were gained before your time. The board is not the same as it was a couple years ago and I am mostly a reader now. I would rather be unkown to you than known as the guy who likes to pee in butts.

For a second, I thought this would be about adding user profile functionality feature to this site. But, yeah - once every two weeks is better than nothing!

A bit of the "self importance" bug? Who really gives a rat's arse about who posts here and what they're like?

here's something just to cut 'n paste for every guy here: M grad, engineering or LSA. Drinks a lot. Dates hot babes. Has a perfect family and life. Is smarter than anyone in the media. Is either a major business owner or a corporate big wig who still finds time to spend ALL his time posting on message boards. Doesn't like Magnus because Magnus, well, makes sense. Often posts new threads regaling us with how he dreams about a football game. Or interesting new threads about how his neighbor is an OSU fan and he always puts him in his place. OR about how he went to a football game and beat up 592 fans from the opposing team with one arm tied behind his back without spilling his beer.

There ya go: The profile for 99% of the guys here. And those are the "interesting" ones.

I usually find this guy tobe a bit of an ass, but this post just struck me as funny, with a little truth wrapped up in it as well. A friend of mine often used to say "truth hurts" and I think that is why this one is getting the negs, but I got a chuckle out of it.

The first part was also directed at a specific person, which I didn't like. The rest of it though, was pretty funny. It is vague enough to leave a person open to laughing and pointing at others, even though the comment was probably directed at them (I probably fall in with that bunch)...

So not true (about me anyways). I like Magnus.

This would be cool every two weeks or whenever you get time. It's interesting to read about the posters, even if the interviews are all a bit similar. I say do it up.

it might be interesting to have some of the less understood, often controversial personalities interviewed. I for one would like to hear from the mind of the character MGoVillian, why Sean Ornery is so ornery, or how the psyche of a FuManBlue adapts through his own personal Divine Comedy.

The interesting, fantastical recesses of Mgoblog's personality.

I'm sure most of us understand the circumstances. I enjoyed last year's MGoProfiles, and most others on the board probably did, too. If you think you can do them once in a while, then do them because you enjoy the work, not because we "need" them.

dont be so harsh on yourself, if you get some time to do them do it up otherwise dont worry about it.

while i enjoyed them during the dead periods i will await more of your shirt/paint masterpieces.

And while I'm not actually one of the "paint" guys (see Shredder), I can disclose that the 2011 shirt line is currently in pre-production and is contributing to the basic message of this post.

While I don't understand this "personal life outside the blog" thing, I say if you can do one every two weeks, that's fine by me.

Another option is to just do one every two weeks, and if every now and then you get the time to do a bonus interview, we will be pleasantly surprised.

...and then didn't stick with it, I understand the time issue. I thought going in to it I would be able to have enough time, then a bit of other stuff happens and suddenly the last thing you want to do is continue making diaries, because, well, you do actually have more important things to do.

If you have time, and then aren't a tad lazy like me once you get that time, and more importantly, you enjoy doing it and putting the time in to it, then go for it. Otherwise, it was a nice run.

Every two weeks or even a month should be enough anyway, you've already covered the big huge mgocelebrities. Thanks for your efforts, whatever you decide.

I thoroughly enjoyed the profiles and would love to see them come back, but don't do it if it's too much for you right now. To build on aawolverine's comment, once a month would be preferable to once a never...but once a never is fine with me, too, if that's what your schedule is dictating. Whatever is best for you.

I think the general consensus is do them whenever you have time. If it's once a month or once every 2 weeks it's just something fun to read but it doesn't really need to be on a set schedule.

I loved the profiles and would be happy to get any even if it was one every 3 months. Just do them when your time pressure is off. If you are busy now, take a break from it. Most of the heavy posters have been covered anyway and some of the new heavy posters would not be worth profiling.

I think once every two weeks is more than sufficient, if you can pull it off. If it even takes longer, go for it. Because someone else could volunteer to do it, but it wouldn't be the same. I know I wouldn't want to be the follow act to that. Talk about following a legendary coach...

And if it's once a month or something, why just do it over summer? Do 12 a year. Who cares if a diary is during the season? No worse than anything else put up then. Not like they were taking front page space up.
