I am currently wearing a clean Michigan sweatshirt. When I get home, I will change back into my dirty one that I have worn during all the games this tourney.
MGoPoll // Superstitions // Posbang?
I, too, am utilizing wardrobe continuity to give us the maximum probability of victory. I've worn the same shirt for each of our NCAA tournament games so far. I accidentally washed it with a bunch of other laundry before the Syracuse game & I was terrified that I screwed us, but everything turned out ok. In fact, I have watched the games in at least 4 different locations, with various other factors in constant flux - beers drank or not drank, solo or with friends, etc. I'm starting to think maybe our team is winning because they're talented and well-coached or something ...
Blasphemy. You take that back before it jinxes us.
I'M STILL WEARING THE SHIRT TO BE SAFE
I have worn the same exact Michigan shirt for all 5 games, soon to be 6!
Thanks for getting THAT stuck in my head on a day like this.
If it's a big game, I don't sit down at all, I stand in my living room like an idiot. Sitting is bad luck.
I don't drink my first sip of beer until after kickoff or tip. If I do, it's bad luck.
If I go for a run the night before I push myself to finish x miles in x minutes. If I don't, it's bad luck.
If I'm wearing Michigan gear and things are going bad in the game, I remove the gear. Vice versa if I'm not wearing Michigan gear. If not, it's bad luck.
On a side note, my wife is due on the 13th of this month. Precisely what are the odds of her going into labor right before the tip, or God forbid with 5 minutes left in a tight game?
Then she will just have to wait. Priorities.
Hospitals have TVs for a reason! My mom went into labor with my sister right before the last post-season game for the Tigers in 1987. (Also the last post-season game the Tigers would be in until the year my sister was out of the country for the majority of the season.) My dad watched the game while my mom was busy laboring. In case you are wondering, yes, they are divorced!
Dude, SO not a problem. From onset of labor you got HOURS, especially if it's your first.
It's our second. Her water broke before she had contractions last time, so anything is possible. Since I am a responsible husband, I have taxi services on standby.
The taxi driver can deliver the baby (they do it all the time on TV) while you stream the game on your phone. All bases covered. Well played sir.
Hmm, "x miles in x minutes"? Have you actually run 10 miles in 10 minutes?
It's the internet, so why the fuck not?
Yes. I have run 10 miles in 10 minutes.
I stood at the copy machine for five minutes today figuring out what number of copies I could make that included all my students, wouldn't be a jinx, and would bring the greatest amount of good luck.
I wore my 1985 Big Ten championship game t-shirt during the Syracuse game. I'm wearing it today, even though I just worked out in it. Family will just have to live with it.
During football season, if we're losing, I leave the room and have my husband yell in to the other room what's happening. More often than not, we win when I leave.
Instead of a suit to teach an entire roomful of MBAs.
This sweatshirt has been worn for every tournament game and includes some soda stains from VCU at Auburn Hills
I walked down to the bar. Things continued not to go well and I took a shot of Jameson's. I don't really drink shots, but if felt right. We know how it turned out. Clearly this was not a coincidence and I'll be having Jameson's again tonight if circumstances require.
Car bombs for you tonight, sir.
Jameson's + Baileys IRISH Cream + Guinness = Win
The Irish were the last team to beat Louisville. The Guinness is just because car bombs are the best.
but I'm game.
I have this superstitious thing I do where I sneak into an opposing team's team dinner before a game, and add a little something to the food resulting in severe, but not life-threatening, diahrrea. It works remarkably well actually, and my teams haven't lost when I stick with this superstition. I haven't tried it for any UM games yet , but perhaps it's time to break out my version of the 'lucky shirt' for the Wolverines.
Have watched every game since VCU on tape delay. As much as I want to watch live, superstitious behavior wins out, and I will not be starting the game until 45 minutes post-tip
That, gentlement, is real sacrifice for the team.
They are the go to rally beer if we ever have a moment of doubt. They have worked thus far against Kansas and Syracuse.
In all sports, I refuse to shave while things are good, so I'm looking a bit raggedy now. For this tourney run, I've also made sure to sit in the same seat of my couch and watch the game on my projector in the same sweatshirt. I also do not drink until after the game ends (it minimizes the projectiles I can use should things go sufficiently bad). If one of my cats decides to jump in my lap at any time, I do nothing to jeopardize the cat going anywhere (this includes cheering excessively or using the bathroom - I've learned to just deal with the situation).
I have a hat with a Wolverine head which I wore to both Final Four games in '89 and the 1998 Rose Bowl. The hat was worn to the Georgia Dome last Saturday night and *will* be worn again tonight!
Plain gray t-shirt that reads "Michigan Basketball". Worn it all tourney.
Wearing the same t-shirts, jeans and shoes. also, in every thread it's appropriate, Fuck Louisville.
I haven't had a sip to drink until after any of the games this year, so that'll be the routine tonight. Have worn a different maize and or blue shirt for each game.
Wear my Michigan football t, my faded m hat, same pair of jeans, sit in the same seat at the same friends house, and drink heavily. I may or may not have an anxiety/compulsive disorder
When Rumeal Robinson went to the line for his NC-clinching free throws in '89 I promised any/all deities that would listen that I would never ask him/her/it for anything Michigan sports-related ever again if only RR made the FTs. Of course he did and it was all Muppets and rainbows and I felt very clever. It seemed like a good idea at the time but now I can't use that again and I'm pissed.
I'm watching the game at the same place as I watched the Syracuse game, with the same people sitting in the same seats and of course wearing the same clothes. It's all I got. Go Blue!
drink for you! About to slip into pre-game mode, actually.
YOU MUST DRINK! The team is counting on you.
Typically, when the game is well within hand, I can relax just enough to sit on the center cushion of the sofa just to maintain some perceived karmic balance. If the game is close, I will invariably pace around the family room sofa clockwise and maintain about 18 inches of clearance from all edges and check MGoBlog during media timeouts.
As for gear, I will wear the shirt which I wore for the final five minutes of the Kansas game - a long-sleeve "Michigan" shirt, blue with maize letters (I spilled beer and had to change). Taking that as a sign that the shirt provided a boost, I have also worn this shirt for Florida and Syracuse.
great recruiting visits that Hand and Peppers had during this streak, I advise you to continue ignoring all personal hygene until national signing day. Your committment to basketball and football success is appreciated.
Ill be checking my sports center app every ten to fifteen seconds. Also, if anyone asks me for a favor, I feel obligated to do it. It's a karma thing.
Same grey Michigan shirt and blue block M shorts. Also, my 3 year old will be wearing his Shoelace jersey this evening then his blue block M PJ's for bed. I also stand/sit based on the flow of the game and whatever is working.
I've worn the same Michigan gear for the games but my big superstition is my magical beanie hat that I put on at some point in the 2nd half of the Kansas game. In celebration of the win I threw the hat. I vowed that the hat shall not be touched until right before tip for the Florida game and removed right after the game ends to preserve the magic. I did the same for the Syracuse game and it remains undisturbed. Got to get one more win out of that magical beanie.
Well I had a similar question. I went sober the day of Michigan's first game (for reasons other than bball) and have now gone 3+ weeks without a drop of alcohol. I will be out again tonight at a sports bar to watch the game but am torn on what to do.... Full day pass on sobriety or do I stick it out for the game and have one or two after the game if I feel up to it?
Then you, my country man, have far more intestinal fortitude than I! God speed to you!
As my username would imply, I live in the beautiful city of Lubbock, TX, where it is currently in the upper 80's outside. On Saturday, about 45 minutes before tipoff, I realized that I did not own any suitable warm weather Michigan gear. So, I frantically drove to the mall hoping to find a Hatworld or equivalent that just might have a Michigan hat. I was not optimistic. But, I somehow managed to maneuver my way into a prime parking space at the mall, at a time when the mall here is a complete shitshow. I walked in, and the hat store, by sheer dumb luck, was right next to the entrance I parked at. As I scanned the racks for a hat, my heart sank as I did not see any Michigan paraphernalia anywhere. As a last ditch effort, I asked the sales associate if he might have one in the back. He then reached behind the counter, and pulled out a single, fitted Michigan hat that fit me perfectly. It was the last one, was on sale previously and was likely going to be shipped back to whatever warehouse it came from. I wore this hat during the game Saturday, and I plan to wear it during every game from here on out.
My son wears his Burke jersey every game.
My best friend although not a M fan was in Seattle in 89 when they won it and he's in in GA this week for the masters. So I figure he's some kind of good luck charm or something..
Can't really afford to go out, but I have no choice. Same bar I've been at for VCU, Kansas, Syracuse. Same bar I drunkenly offered $300 to open up for my group on Easter Sunday after THE TREY. (They declined, and they're lucky it didn't jinx us)
I have no choice. My wife understands and supports this. I must drink Captain and Coke with a lime and a splash of grenadine, then start two fisting with that and spotted cow for halftime. Then 2nd half is all spotted cow. I'm not quitting smoking until after tonight because this team needs me to step out of that same bar and have a smoke at halftime. Just like VCU/Kansas/Cuse.
I WILL NOT LET THE TEAM OR ANY OF YOU DOWN!!!
I am wearing the same outfit I wore the day the played Kansas, after which I boldly proclaimed to everybody, "We're going to Atlanta. Book that shit!" much to the derision of a lot of non believers.
I plan on sticking to my ritual of only relying on my phone, and later as I'm leaving work, the car radio for my game updates. Saturday night, I gave in to the temptation of watching the latter part of the game with some coworkers because we had let out early, and we all know how close that wound up being after a double digit lead.
Tides have turned since wearing my #EATING bracelet. I'm convinced that's the key to victory.
I just thought of something: Isn't rule number one regarding a streak that you not talk about the streak? Suddenly, I'm very nervous. I don't know if this thread was such a good idea.
I have this 5 month long beard that I had planned to shave; maybe I will do it tomorrow. The gray, though, is in the process of turning blue!
I watched the last 5 games with a different combination of friends and locations. Tonight will be no different.
Also busted out dad's 1964 M class ring during the Cuse game so that I can wear it today/tonight.
I don't think I've ever taken my socks off during a basketball game before, but during the first half against SDSU I was getting hot so I took my socks off. Michigan then started going on a run. I haven't worn my socks for any game since - and I certainly won't be wearing socks tonight!
Except when it comes to Michigan sports.
I have a long sleeve maize Michigan T-shirt that I love, but I will not be wearing it during an M game again. I wore it during the second IU loss and both Wisconsin games. I only wear it on non game days now.
Completely irrational, I know.
I'm with you on the Michigan clothing. Have yet to wear any for the tourney games and am not starting tonight. It's my only superstition really.
So I bought a new Michigan shirt right before the second MSU game. Wore it without washing for the MState + Purdue games. Washed it before Indiana. Forgot to wear it during BG10 Tourney. But I've worn it every game day without washing it during this tourney. It'd stink pretty bad right now if not for lots of Axe body spray! Oh and I hadn't shaved since the tourney began either!!
Wearing my maize..err bright ass yellow shirt from Adidas w a navy block M. Will b drinking my Budweiser black crown and sitting in the same recliner.
I will be sitting in my lucky chair and have on the same tshirt I've worn for all the games. So ready for this thing to start!
Will be wearing my 1989 Final Four tee tonight, trying to decide if I want to go out amend subject one of the alumni association bars with my nervousness and general lack of composure at this particular moment...
I've got the same maize MICHIGAN shirt on that I've had on for every tourney game but SDSU. With a white long-sleeved tee underneath, just as I've had for every tourney game but SDSU. I'm not normally a wear-the-right-thing superstitious kinda guy but obviously this time it's not to be ignored.
I have been reading this blog for literally 5-6 years and this was the post that inspired me to finally join...
I realized near the start of the tourney that the team has never actually lost when I watched the game in the Kitchen of my house (just moved in this summer)... All the losses this season were watched somewhere else i.e. work, in my more comfortable den, at a bar, etc. I decided to test this out starting with the tourney... nuff said...
Hence I will be sitting (more like pacing) in my pretty uncomfortable chairs in my kitchen... Basically the reason I couldn't try to attend the game tonight... I mean if they lost b/c I wasn't watching in my kitchen I'd never forgive myself.
Lets Go Blue!!!!
The girlfriend gets back with dinner (SUBS) like forty minutes before gametime, and when I do drink I usually give myself about an hour with music on and the pregame shows muted to ease into a few drinks and a decent buzz before the game starts; then I don't drink until halftime and after the game is over.
Syracuse is the only game I drank for, but I also went really hard before and after the game. I haven't worn anything in particular for the tournament, either, but I'll probably break out the long sleeve block M shirt I wore for Syracuse anyway.
Also, I almost forgot; pretty much every game (all football, big hockey, the past few for basketball) my apartment has to be more or less spotless. It fucks with my concentration if it isn't.
I must eat pizza for every big game. I didnt during the B1G Tourney and I didnt when we played OHIO last year. Do not fear, the pizza has been ordered!
Wearing the same Maize colored Addidas Climalite that I've worn for each game since Kansas. Un-washed of course. Lets hope Smelly Shirt brings home one more! Go Blue!
I'm busting out the t shirt that has been worn for all football home games in 2011 and 2012.
