mgopoints

Submitted by Jon Benke on

Can someone explain to me how this works?  I have lost like 300 points in the last few days, and like 70+ in the past 20 minutes, though none of my posts have been negged or anything, so I am seriously wondering, and I know it's sacreligious to you people for asking, so forgive me, though I am seriously wondering on how much longer till I'll have nothing, and thus, won't be able to post.  If anyone can help me, that'd be great ... to everyone else, I am sorry this post upsets you so greatly.

Points expire after a year. You were probably a pretty busy poster around this time last year (maybe one of the big pos-bangs happened).

Due to the fact that posbangs don't actually count anymore, like they did last year, people are losing points pretty quickly.  The only way to gain points now is quantity of posts, rather than quantity and quality of posts.  For example, someone could have posted a comment last year that got 10 posbangs. When the expiration date comes up you lose all 10 points for that post.  This year, it would take 10 seperate posts to make up that 10 point loss.

Ok. I have to admit that I find myself much funnier than you and I couldn't stand it that you had more points than me.  So, I stole your points and cashed them in at the casino.  Sorry.  I'll return them if I can hit this royal flush..............

Oh noes!! It's my MgoAnniversary today, better step up my game before the season.

Speaking of those things that shall not be mentioned, the great MgoPointexpire of 10/11 kind of sucks doesn't it?

I just want to know where all the points go.  Does Brian keep them lodged in some sort of Scrooge McDuck-type vault, in which Brian goes for a swim whenever the points are repossessed?  Is he saving them up so he can cash them in for a threesome with Jessica Biel and Miranda Kerr?

WHERE DO THEY GO?!?!?!

I guess it's so dudes can't build up a bunch of MGoPoints and then go on a His Dudeness- or Tom Hagen-like meltdown and still have a lot of MGoCache.  You have to post consistently or you'll lose your "respect."

It doesn't make sense because it values quantity over quality, but I'm thinking (hoping?) that the current MGoPoints system is broken and will be running more efficiently in the coming weeks.  Pos- and negbangs were helpful in deterring troll-like behavior.

I like the concept of the new points system... Once in a while I'll check out grayed out posts just to see if they board is effectively weeding out the stuff I don't care about, and usually it is.  Kind of funny when I did that earlier today and realized that half the comments were bouje... oops

Let's say tOSU has the ball at the three-inch line and it's fourth and goal.  The clock reads 0:03 in the fourth quarter and tOSU is behind 57-0 against Northeast Delta Institute School of Mechanical Exactness.  tVest calls time out to keep from being shut out.  They bring in the play.  The defense is packed in tight.  It's a dive play off right tackle and they're in for the score and their lone TD of the day.....but wait a minute....there is a flag on the play.  Here is the call from the Referee: "Illegal participation by the offense.  Seventeen men on the field.  Ten yard penalty, repeat fourth down."  Then on the next play they throw over everyone's head and the ball lands out of bounds and the game ends.

One moment you think you have a certain number of points and the next you lose them.  It happens.

Think of your mgopoints as your mgo401K...you know your overall numbers should go up more than they come down.  At times the mgogovernment will take some away from you.  Better yet, base your participation here not on points, but on discussions of kicking tOSU asses!

Well, you are just going to have to step up your posting.  There is plenty to talk about.  Here's a topic:

Brady Hoke - great recruiter or just producer of gold poop.

Discuss.

In the current environment, a person is more rewarded for the number of posts than for actually contributing good points to a good discussion.  It is what it is, but the days of posbangs for great points are gone.  Gone are the days that MGoPoints serve as a good judge of a Member's character.  Ahhhhhh . . . the good old days.
