MGoPetition: CUSTOM BASKETBALL JERSEYS

Submitted by Mr. Yost on

Edit: Too many of you think I'm talking about the "uniformz" worn during the tournaments. I'm not talking about the "Wolverines" uniformz with the same design that everyone adidas wore. I understand those. Just like Nike had a select few that wore the throwback uniforms. Ohio State and MSU both wore them against us.

NO.

I'm talking about our STANDARD uniforms. It's the Adidas stock uniform and it is the same design as NC State, Mississippi State, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Tennessee and a bunch of others...

THIS:

Michigan needs to be like most major schools and have a design that is ONE OF A KIND!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now that the season is over...I wanted to speak up on something that's been bothering me all tournament.

Can we PLEASE cause an uproar of some kind to make UM, or Adidas, or whomever, work on getting Michigan Basketball it's OWN jersey style? I'm not talking about the "Wolverines" tournament jersey that all Adidas schools wear - I'm not a fan, but whatever...another battle for another time.

I'm talking about our standard white, maize, blue jerseys that come in the same style as almost every other Adidas school. We've been to the National Championship and the Elite 8. Why do we have to wear the same design (in our colors) as the majority of Adidas schools in the country (during the regular season)?

It's so frustrating watching Duke, UNC, MSU, Arizona, UCLA, Kentucky, UConn, Kansas, Texas, Florida, OSU, and so many other schools have THEIR OWN jersey. Some Nike, some Adidas. Sure they conform and wear whatever thing Nike or Adidas comes out with that year - again, not trying to change that - but the most of the year they wear THEIR uniform and it doesn't look like anyone else.

Nike even has a "stock uniform" that many schools wear...A LOT of mid-majors do, they just put in in their colors. It looks like this... (both schools, Liberty and Radford, have it on in this picture)

Why does Michigan have to wear the Adidas "stock" uniform? We deserve to have our own uniform even if we have to get pimped out once or twice a year and do what everyone else does.

Maybe you all don't mind it - but I wanted to see if anyone notice/it bugged you all too.

I'm not hear to design it, I'm not hear to say "go back to (insert) year"...I just think we should have something of our own. Just like football. We shouldn't have the maize, white and blue version of NC State or Nebraska or a bunch of other schools.

Sorry if I wasted your time.

Maybe next year, but you are talking about consistently winning programs. Nike seems to be more gratuitous, but we will have our time. If we make a final four next year we will get it the following year for sure.

It has nothing to do with winning or losing. Adidas rolled out a uniform campaign for its entire roster of schools that made the tournament. We got the same shit everyone else got, "customized" only for color and team name (er, mascot name). Same template, same design flourishes, same warmup shirts.

At least Nike seems to do something interesting that is school-specific. Adidas has consistently done brand-wide template jobs.

Nike and Adidas both do that. I'm talking about regular old design. The uniforms we wear when we play directional Michigan.

The design is just like almost every other adidas school.

However, I posted some pictures below of schools just off the top of my head who have their own custom design just like the majority of Nike schools have their own custom design (even if Nike pimps them out and makes them wear "special stuff" sometimes too).

The Wolverines jerseys looked, predictably, stupid. The font on the players' last names looked like bad MS WordArt from the late 90s. The stupid dots on the shoulders looked idiotic. The M on only one leg of the shorts was baffling. After the first round, at least the team had the integrity to say no to the "THE WOLVERINE WAY" template shirts that were identical to every other Adidas school.

I don't know why it's so damn hard to just wear a Michigan uniform that looks like a Michigan uniform, and not the same stupid fucking template Adidas is using for everyone else. Shouldn't we wear uniforms that stand for Michigan, not for Adidas' current marketing campaign?

I'm not talking about the tournament stuff. And I don't mind that Adidas had t-shirts that had everyone's mascot the "The (blank) way"...it's a t-shirt. Who cares.

I'm talking about our everyday uniform. I'm not even talking about shoes. I don't expect us to have some custom style of shoe...or socks. Just in our colors. But the jersey and shorts should say MICHIGAN when you see the design.

Just like you can replace "Indiana" with "Michigan" on the Indiana uniforms and still know they're Indiana's uniforms. Or Duke's or Florida's or MSU's...you don't even need to see the name to know who it is. You know North Carolina's uniforms with the plaid stripes and the NORTH (number in the middle) CAROLINA beneath it. Even OSU has their own with the same stripe they use on the football uniform and it breaks off to that triangle on the shorts.

Granted everyone knows us because of our colors, but still...it's the same DESIGN as everyone else.

if they ever have sleeves on the basketball jerseys i will personally fly into Ann Arbor just to stab Dave Brandon with an ice pick.

Personally I loved these..

Im actually pretty sure Arizona Kentucky and State had the same uniform template from Nike. Just as we have the same template as Wisconsin. I know the fonts and colors are different but it just screams laziness when I see all the same teams playing in essentially all the same uniforms. Same thing in the NFL with Nike using a template to creates every jersey and they gave half the teams that same Dracula collar. At least we dont use the stretch mark template Adidas jersey in football like Nebraska, Tennessee, and UCLA all use

Nike does that with football uniforms too with the "Flywire" crap that you see. No one is complaining about the collar and logo in the collar.

You're really going to argue that the collar is the entire uniform?

And material is supposed to be the same, why would they make 300 different materials?

I said design...and none of those top to bottom are the same design. In fact, they're ALL specialized to the specific school. So you proved my point for me.

None of the tops are even the same. UConn has two lines of piping under the arm down the sides, Kentucky has rings around the sleeves, Arizona has stripes over the shoulders and MSU has a stripe under the arm.

lol, literally ALL 4 are different.

Yeah, I didnt mean to disagree with you. I just meant that it seems so lazy that Nike cant make individual jerseys (collars included) for their maybe 60ish schools. Or at least the top teams. Adidas is the worst with this in my opinion.

These are the worst

Since this is branding, essentially, I think DB will make sure we stand out in a unique way once time for renegotiations starts. And I say that in a non-sarcastic way.

Once again, I'm not talking about any "special" jersey that Adidas does for the tournament or whatever. I'm talking about the jerseys that we wear for most of the season in either white, blue or maize. That template is the same as the majority of other adidas schools.

FYI uniforms are changing for 2014-15. They change every two years.

Get ready to complain more.

the fact that we have a routine that tells us when we will be having our uniforms changed proves just how lazy and uninspired these companies are. i know we like the pay day of having adidas make the uniforms but it just feels so lame to have matching uniforms with all the the other adidas team (i know, i know, the colors are different)

Never, in a million years, did I ever think that I would see a picture of Antwan Burrus dunking on Brandon Holcomb (Radford) in the Vines Center in any OP's post on any topic. As a Liberty student, I am way too excited about this...

Anyway, I find this whole thing weird considering if I were Addidas or Nike I would make as many regular jerseys as unique as possible for as many schools as I could... Having more unique jerseys all the time (not even special ones, but, as you mentioned, just a regaular everyday kind of jersey) would make more money for them you would think. More unique jerseys = more jerseys sold. Why don't they do that for everyone instead of just the basketball schools?

....I really wanted to like adidas, but between the cut/quality of the uniforms, their intepretation of Maize (aka adidas Sun, nee highlighter yellow) and their cookie-cutter approach with our basketball unis, I'm ready to move back to Nike.

Our current basketball uniforms = Wisconsin = NC State = Nebraska, only with different colors + jersey school name/mascot.

If adidas keeps paying Michigan millions (they will), they aren't going to change.

Do you really think Nike isn't going to try put uniformz on Michigan? Give me a break.

The evolution of the color Maize here has been interesting. Through the years it's been getting brighter and brighter. I like the Maize brought by adidas. It's modern and pops out.

adidas is here to stay. I guarantee it. With notre dame gone, Michigan is the undisputed top school wearing adidas.

I don't think 1/2 the people understand my rant.

It has NOTHING TO DO WITH "UNIFORMZ"

Nike, Adidas, UA, and any other company is going to put UNIFORMZ on every team.

I'm talking about the STANDARD uniform. Not the "Wolverines" uniformz that we wore during the tournaments. I'm talking about these.

It's the same design as every other Adidas school.

ADIDAS three stripes is a horrible logo. I hated to see WOLVERINES on the jerseys, always should be MICHIGAN imo. The only credit I will give ADIDAS is the WE WORK shooting shirts instead of the INSERT TEAM NAME WAY for everybody else.

Get back to NIKE. I don't purchase ADIDAS gear.
