MGoHelp - Last Minute Places to Stay in South Bend
I'm looking for a little help on this glorious fall football Saturday from my MGoBrethren. My buddies and I just decided that we are going to head down to South Bend in two weeks to be in town for the ball game (probably not going to be able to get tickets, but still want to have a good time before the game). I know that it is incredibly late to be looking for a place to stay, but would anyone know of a decently priced hotel that is relatively close to the stadium that still has availability. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
GO BLUE!

We were actually thinking about that since one of us lives in Chicago. Any idea of how long it would take to drive to South Bend from Chicago on Saturday morning taking normal traffic and gameday traffic into account?

Just off the top of my head of places to stay in South Bend:
The rusted industrial complex outside of town, outside one of the numerous cheap liquor stores, in an ill-tempered local's never-been-updated home straight from a 1950s steel town, a by-the-hour motel, or you can splurge and stay at the nicest place in town: Motel 6.

mgoblog, my first choice when making travel arrangements. Fuck google, fuck expedia, fuck a cellphone, and fuck common sense; mgoblog is the go-to place for all answers football/travel/hotel related.

Exactly. Because getting opinions from people who have potentially made the same trip that I am trying to plan several times and know the area much better than I do is a much worse idea than reading random reviews on google from random people who have never been to a college football game in their life. What was I thinking?

I'm not quite sure what you were thinking either, but I'm sure you'll post a topic about it when you figure it out.

Because it's obvious with my ample amount of points, which now exceeds a grand total of 150 points, that I post everyhting that pops into my mind.

You need a drink. Hopefully you know someone of-age that can buy you some beer before the game.

Fans book years in advance. mostly in SB and Elkhart/Mishawaka to the east.
Michigan City IN has the Blue Chip and a nice hotel.
There are motels right off I80/90 (IN Toll Rd) there as well. The Four Winds around New Buffalo MI would be the closest possibility.
That is probably less than 30 minutes from the stadium.
Trump Casino and a couple of other ones around Gary would be convenient to SB (an hour or less.
Stay and park on the west side to avoid traffic if you're heading west afterward.
If you're coming from the east on I80/90, motels at the Sturgis MI(Howe Lagrange) or Middlebury exits may be not be packed.
They're about 35 - 45 minutes to the stadium.
