MgoGolf Suggestions
I am flying into DTW for a weekend of golf with my buddies at Maumee Bay Resort outside of Toledo in May. Does anyone have any course recommendations on the way to Toledo from DTW? I was hoping to get in a round on the way down. I hear Legacy is a decent track but have not spoken to anyone that has actually played it. Any other thoughts? Thank you in advance.
if youre looking for anywhere to play around toledo, then check out inverness in toledo. its a great course. it actually was the host site of the ncaa mens golf championships within the last couple of years. either last year or the year before i dont remember exactly
It hosted the 1985 PGA Championship and is hosting the Senior PGA very soon. NCAA Championships were held there last May. Inverness is awesome, but it is very private. I know they have lost a lot of members and may be open to some public rounds on weekdays this year, but I doubt they have even opened yet.
i've played it several times. They have a $20 all you can play special right now.
Inverness is private, if you get on let me know how you did it. I went to high school with the pro, but don't know him well enough to contact him.
Don't know of any other notable courses out that way.
I've played Inverness a couple times. It's a narrow and challenging course that will make average players want to sell their clubs.
Legacy was a nice course when I lived in that area 10 years ago. It's the course that will most resemble Maumee Bay.
Both courses were favorites of mine.

lots of 3 wood/2-3 iron tee shots, you HAVE to hit fairways to score.
I used to play there a lot. Punishing course if you don't play it smartly.
I appreciate the information. Looks like Legacy it is. Sure hope that $20 aycp special is still going on.

Maumee bay isnt that great, if you are in oregon you might as well play eagles landing. but going north there: legacy is pretty good, and since you are right off of 23n eaglecrest in ypsi is beautiful, great track

Also, if you are willing to drive a little out of your way, The Grande in Vandercook Lake, (near Jackson) is awesome, and they have spring specials.

It's a -bit= out of the way... but... If you're an Alumni Association member, the UM Golf Course is quite affordable for a world-class course. Wish I had bothered to look at the fees when I was a student, it's like $25 if you have a valid MCard.
