the tallest corn grows on the NW part of our field, and after i noticed how tall it was near the house last week i told the kids that the next one to go for a run around the fields, put a tape measure in their pocket and check that part of the field.  one of the sons reported back that he measured it at 13' 2"  tall.  never seen that before.

per stalk, some singles.  this is field corn so we won't harvest it until well into football season, but i'll try to remind myself to compare the ears.

greater plant height would mean more silage though.  i will give that to my neighbor as he has way more cattle than we do, so he'll appreciate it.

So I'm spending the summer in WV ... and there's a kid of about 10 or so who is beginning his football career.  The coaches have him on defense.  I said, "That means you get to hit people."  He broke out in a big smile.  "I like hitting people," he said. 

The kid is going to be a good linebacker or safety.  I can see it in his eyes. :-)
