MGoDrone: Ryan Field via Quad Rotor

Submitted by BlueBarron on

Just in time for the Northwestern game, here's some Ryan Field video via my quad rotor! This is from a few weeks ago, hence the green trees. I live in Wisconsin now and Northwestern is right along the way on my drive home to Michigan.

(sorry, don't know how to imbed).

Agreed that it's a bad situation to get into for all sorts of reasons.  But based on the video, I feel worse for the Man-Boy.  Three reasons:

  1. It sounds like she is trying to restrain him due to the imagined "crime" of taking film of a public space, which probably is not a crime at all (and since it's a recreational use of a drone, it's probably not even an FAR violation).  So she probably is assaulting him.

  2. Many men have trouble defending themselves against women because it's taught since birth that if you're a guy you don't hit a woman.  I've seen a few "bad-ass" women in bars start altercations playing on this, and it can be a bit of a no-win situation for the guy.  So Man-Boy was in a bit of a bind there.

  3. Thanks to you, JustinGoBlue, the male is forever going to be referred to as "Man-Boy".

But man are these two characters terrible at fighting/self-defense.  Props to Man-Boy for saying "I wouldn't be touching you if you weren't assaulting me."

It happened in my hometown up in CT, 17 year old kid was flying his drone with a GoPro over the state park, which has a beach, and this woman freaked out on him. She was arrested and sentenced to probation. You're right, they could have done a better job of entertaining us, maybe with a pile driver or something like that.

I was fully entertained - it was funny and interesting.  Just underwhelmed.  Also, I think she picked the right person to pick on as that could have ended up very poorly for her if she decided to assault the wrong person.

I regret that the video did not continue to show the wonderful sight of the police driving up, her triumphantly presenting the "criminal" she "caught", and then the look of befuddlement as she found herself in cuffs - believing all-the-while that she was the victim here.  "Don't you understand, officer?  He was flying a toy helicopter with a camera!"

(Thanks for the background and for sharing the video.  I feel even worse for Man-Boy after reading this, but not bad enough to stop referring to him as Man-Boy.)

I get the rationale of why they built Ryan Field the way they did when it was just two sideline bleachers sections. But in its current configuration, man is it just a completely bizarre place to see a game. Weirdest sight angles of any place I've ever watched a sporting event.

So apparently northwestern has switched the home and visitors side this year.  The visitor sideline is now on the south side of stadium (the bigger side - also where the students sit) and the home team is on the shorter side.

I was told this was to show more "purple" on TV.  I somewhat buy that - i was invited to an event on their Party Deck - but you are not allowed to wear any other B1G logos or colors while up there since they want to show more NU colors on TV....

I grew up a 5 min ride from the stadium, one of my debate partners lived right next to the parking lot adjoining the stadium.

Note around the 0:30 mark a big, pointy white building close to Lake Michigan.  That's the Bahai Temple, the international center for the Bahai faith (a small sect of Islam).  We used to call it 'God's orange juice squeezer," given its shape.  It's hollow inside -- one big tall space, very ornamental.

You might recognize the Temple from a movie.  In Risky Business, when Joel is being chased by Guido the Killer Pimp, they are driving fast up Lake Shore Drive and then Sheridan Rd.  There is a night-time shot of their Porsche ("there is no substitute") racing past the Temple.

So, there you go.

If you go up Sheridan Rd. for about 10-15 minutes, you'll get to Glencoe IL, which has a few places John Hughes shot other scenes for other movies.  (In Risky Business, Joel gave his address on the phone to the call "girl," mentioning Glencoe by name.)  There is the church from Sixteen Candles, which is near the lake (where Jake Ryan (NOT THAT JAKE RYAN) was waiting by his car in front of it).  Go two blocks to the lake, and you'll be at a stone area overlooking Lake Michigan; that's where they shot a scene from Ferris Bueller's Day Off, the part where his buddy is lying on his back after his dad's car went through the window.)  (By the way, that girl from Day Off was sooooo hot, what ever happened to her?)

Ok, so, some really useless info for all yunz.

Really cool thread. I spent 5 hard years there once. For those who are claiming that stadium is small (and it is) it doesn't seem small at all when the non-revenue varsity athletes are cleaning it by hand (yes you only get one glove). On Sunday mornings at 7:00 am after home games. Good thing the NCAA doesn't allow cream cheese so each athlete only gets 1 dry bagel after 3 hours of cleaning. Keep it violation free.

Well done.  I love these videos.  Keep doing them until they shut you down because nowadays Quad Rotor = Drone.  And drones are bad bad bad.
