MGoDinners and MGoAlcohol Saturday Night
Coming into Ann Arbor for the night.
Any useful suggestions for dinner? I checked and tried to reserve at Zingerman's Roadhouse, but it was booked until 9pm.
Alcohol? Alcohol.
Any suggestions for a great time Saturday night for those not familiar with Ann Arbor's nightlife?
And for bonus points: Suggestions on taxi service?
Thanks for planning my night out ahead of time. Hopefully see some of you MGoBloggers out there!

Winner. Lock the thread. I'll bring the Big Red for dessert. That says "Hello Ladies" all over it.

I emailed BD by the way. He said he's waiting on your pregame plans before he makes a decision. I'll probably head over to where you and him are sometime around 10:00-10:30, so let's make plans for a few beers before heading up to the stadium.
We'll need somewhere megangoblue can get in (under 21). I would just ditch her, but I'm sitting next to her all game and that would just be awkward.

Over 70 beers on tap and food too! Great place to go after the game.

Ashley's has a great beer selection, but their food isn't all it's cracked up to be, IME. If you want pretty good food in a bar setting, I'd say Red Hawk.

And, if I may take a minute to go back in time, Backroom Pizza on South U. saved my life many a time. Hit it up late-night.

1. Booze: Somewhere to enjoy the scene without grappling with everyone's elbows.
2. Definite ease of getting a seat. Not too expensive, but good food.
3. Downtown would be great. That is where I wll probably do most of my meandering.

In the Main Area check with:
Felix is mostly known for their wine and martinis, so that might not be the booze you desire.
The Blue Tractor. Good BBQ and burgers, decent beer selection. Normal prices for the area. It's a bit off Main Street (in the direction of Campus) so many out of towners miss it. It "only" has 45 minute waits on gameday, not sure if they do reservations or not. It's also attached to Cafe Habana so you can wander back and forth. I find Habana's food to be subpar though.
The Jolly Pumpkin. Good food and beer. On Main, but a total disaster area if you don't have a reservation. I think they do call ahead seating at the worst.
On South Campus (student area):
Pizza House. An Ann Arbor tradition. Beloved since they deliver until like 5 am or something of that nature. So if you're trashed, high, and hungry they come to you. Also good quality food. Lots of big screens for late games as well.
In general, the Asian restaraunts are always under populated on gameday. I often hit up Tomokun (a nice noodle bar, now with a liquor license) for cheap spicy seafood ramen and hot saki. So as a last ditch if you find yourself wandering the streets, almost any Asian place will likely have seats. My only problem with Tomokun is the last two times I've been in the waitresses have hit on me in front of my wife, so I'm banned from going. Although what she doesn't know can't hurt her.

Some of the food places that I'd suggest include Grizzly Peak, Cafe Habana, Prickly Pear, and Mani. For drinks, restaurants that also have a good bar include Arbor Brewing Company, Conor O'Neills, and to a lesser extent Grizzly Peak. If you like beer, definitely head to Ashley's, where there is a literal BOOK that you get with all the beers that they have on tap (word of warning: they are *good* beers, so most of them are $5 - $10 a mug. The stilton fries there are also amazing. Someone else mentioned Jolly Pumpkin -- this is great food and beer, but it can get busy. Pizza House is always a good place to go, although it's a little plain has an Applebee's feel.
I don't know much as far as taxis go, but there'll be plenty around. Virtually all of these places are within walking distance though, as long as you can walk a mile at a time. The only time you might *need* a taxi is if you are staying in a hotel that is on the outskirts of town (the mall, Ypsi, etc).
I hope that helps! I wish there was a way to send a Personal Message on mgoblog, in which case I could answer any more questions you may have without having to remember to check the thread :)

DINNER - Prickly Pear on Main St. has always been a favorite of mine.
CABS - This is the company with the most cabs in town: Yellow Cab - (734) 663-3355
NIGHTLIFE - Most students and recent alums will head towards Ricks or at least try to at some point. It's an hour long wait to get in that place on Homecoming after 8PM though.

Of the massive, earth-destroying asteroid size, that Ricks is called the Blackout Basement for a reason, and you should under no circumstances actually consider going there unless you want to watch 21 year olds drool on eachother.

Now I am intrigued by this "Rick's". Maybe I could share my 4 loko and Funions.

We went to a trip to a bunch of museums in Philadelphia, with some scheduled time to peruse the madness known only as South Street.
True Story: In all of our youthful genius, we were determined to get an authentic Philly cheese steak. And we did.
At Subway.
+1 to Hackney for getting his story straight before getting into town.
October 28th, 2011 at 1:36 PM ^
I went to Subway a couple of days ago and got the Philly Cheesesteak thinking it would be $5 as part of their "Anytober" promotion where any foot long sub is $5 during the month of October. It was like almost $9 because that's appartenly one of the subs that's not included when they are talking about any of their subs. It really pissed me off.

Having an avatar featuring, I assume, you as Squaddy confirms that you weren't in a frat.

I haven't seen you around these parts lately my good sir. Where have you been hiding? I suggest you download the MGoApp and we start a Friday night pos bang, or what's left of one, while we drink our faces off together via the internets.

I expect a late night post giving me a detailed description of your libations for the evening.
October 28th, 2011 at 2:06 PM ^
Probably not tonight, since I am taking a break from modern technology for a pure fear and loathing experience, but I will write down as much as I can remember in my weekly diary. Also, I must have another posbang to get me through a long year. It will happen. It must be spontaneous though. Like a man jumping off the roof because he thought he was the world's largest albatross after taking mescaline.
October 28th, 2011 at 2:10 PM ^
The last pos bang you and I started was brutal...it last days. I remember someone seeing how small they could get the message boxes.
PS. Best Thompson quote I've ever seen, "I feel the same way about disco as I do about herpes."

going to see the Rum Diary? I'm planning on bringing some rum and pineapple juice into the theatre.

Go to Tony Luke's for your cheesesteak. Skip Pat's & Geno's. And definitely skip Subway. But you knew that already.
October 28th, 2011 at 2:00 PM ^
Brandon Graham disagrees, and gained 30 pounds from Geno's.
October 28th, 2011 at 2:04 PM ^
B. Graham gained his 30 pounds from Jim's, for the record. And I don't fault him for that. Jim's is a solid choice. Still not as good as Tony Luke's, though. If BG had discovered Tony Luke's it would have been 40 pounds.

the line is gonna be awful tonight seeing as its halloween (plus side of this is not one girl there will have anything on)
you are probably better off at charlies for booze (best shot list ever plus the fishbowls are maybe the best tasting drink mixes anywhere )
either way, campus will have its freak on for halloween tonight
October 28th, 2011 at 2:29 PM ^
I was actually thinking that the bars would be a little less crowded than usual because of the numerous halloween parties going on. I could be completely wrong though, that was just my suspicion (not that the bars are ever not crowded).

....but in exchange for going to the game, I have to help the wife take the kids MGoTrickOrTreating at Briarwood Mall afterwards. If you are there and see a blond-haired man of average build in Michigan Gear trying very hard to look totally sober and sifting through a plastic pumpkin for Snickers bars, that would be me.
