MGoClassified - ticket spreadsheet

Submitted by Sledgehammer on

Hey all,

I added the ticket spreadsheet from the Schedule/Tix tab here to the MGoClassfieds Facebook page. I pinned it to the top so it should always be there. I figured since this weekend's softball tickets will be a hot item, a reminder of the spreadsheet and the page in general would be a good idea.

If you don't know what MGoClassfieds is, here is the description: This is a place where trading/selling/buying of new and loved Michigan merchandise can be offered up for sale. Facebook makes it easy for messaging to happen between seller and buyer. Whether you're looking for an excuse to buy some new stuff or just want to pay the Michigan love forward, hopefully this works as an easy way to facilitate that.

I have heard this a ton over the past several years both here and in the national media and my question is always "how do you know who you're selling to?"   Unless you only sell through forums like this one (thereby severely limiting the exposure your tickets have to potential buyers) you have no way of knowing if your selling to an opposing fan or not.

What's sad, IMO, is that many times opposing fan bases value the ticket higher than we do and win the open bids.  I dont think it's fair to somebody who paid for tickets to tell them you have to take less money from a Michigan fan than somebody else would offer you.

IMO if you're writing the check to buy the tickets nobody can tell you where you're allowed to sell them if you cant go.  And if you post on Stubhub, Flashseats or any other blind ticket portal you have zero ability to know what type of fan is buying them.

Maybe I'm being obtuse or unrealistic, but I think it's reasonable to say that tickets have value beyond money. I know that's not how people think about it, but I wish they would. If I can sell my ticket to The Game for $100 to a Michigan fan by using other channels (like this), or $300 on Stubhub, then I can live $200 poorer. I am very tight on money and I still feel this way. I know many Michigan fans who can afford season tickets have a lot more money than I do (disclosure: I don't have season tickets but I would if I lived in-state or even close).

I'd rather give my ticket to a Michigan fan than sell it to an Ohio State fan for any amount of money (ok I guess if they give me enough I'll consider it). I know that's unrealistic but I wish we could change our collective values given the sheer volume of the O-H-I-O chant in our own fucking house. Every year, I look around and think, "the fact that they have enough people to chant this loudly in our own stadium is pathetic and it's our own fault."

Edit: I acknowledge that I come off as a douche in this post and I don't care. If you have experienced the Game in our stadium in the last decade you will sympathize with me. I feel absolute rage just from the memory. My point is that people can do what they want with seats they paid for, I just wish what they wanted was different.

I think that with the first rule we also need to have some sort of Thanksgiving Dinner Support Network for the people who do elect to hang around for the game. Those of us on the blog who are local can host those people and they can argue with our families in our place so they don't feel left out.

Agreed! I have a theory that thanksgiving is part of why the Big House gets so many OSU fans (obviously it's also us sucking recently).

Even this last year when we were good, too many tickets went to OSU fans. My theory is that the center of the Michigan fan base is farther from AA than OSU's is to Columbus. OSU fans live in Ohio, and they can drive back after Thanksgiving. Michigan fans live in more distant parts of the state or out of state, and it's hard to do that (especially for students).

This is why my proposal is this: when The Game is at home, celebrate Thanksgiving a week later. Maybe we could even get UM to have their thanksgiving break another week. I seriously want this to be a trend because every The Game I've gone to has had swaths of red. I started school at UM in 2008 and I've been to every meeting at the Big House since then; it makes me sad every time.

Again, it's mostly because we have sucked recently and it hasn't been worth the effort to skip or rush thanksgiving weekend. But it was worrisome when it continued this past season.

Living in Columbus I never thought about the impact of the holiday. Columbus has a million people, so even those who travel to Cincinnati or Cleveland can make it back for the game. I plan to try and go to the horseshoe this year.. but tickets may be out of my budget.

I bought tickets from this blog's ticket spreadsheet last year and had a GREAT experience.  The seller was happy because he was selling his tickets to another M fan and member of the blog.  I was happy because he had fantastic seats and was asking a fair price.  Highly recommend the spreadsheet.
