MGoBlog Message Changed

Submitted by aaamichfan on

For the first time since I have been a poster here, the message in the upper left-hand side of the board has changed. It went from, "Don't Panic" to "Ok. Inaccurate, but ok."

Just a couple questions for people who have been posting here longer than I. How often does this message change? What has it said in the past?

The reference was taken from a British band called Spiritualized. They released an album back in 1997 called "Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space." It's classic indie shoegaze.

Although on wikipedia it says that they took their title from Jostein Gaarder.

Spiritualized just announced that they will be performing the album in its entirety at the All Tomorrow's Parties festival in England this May curated by Matt Groening. I'm hoping they will announce some stateside dates soon as well.

I really liked the Don't Panic. It always settled me down when I wanted to go on a rant about something and it was the first thing I saw.

Similar to when you start Skype and it says "take a deep breath"

Its a designated coded phrase......I have almost cracked the jargon, but this looks like it may be something big. Set your secret decoder rings and wait for further messages.

The future of the football program is in your hands.

That was earlier in '07 after Michigan beat Notre Dame. Which was the first win after starting the season with The Horror and Oregon, after ending the previous season losing to OSU and USC. We had forgotten what it was like to win a game.

FWIW The post with the disclaimer is here, but it takes until the next post for people to forget rule #1 of posting.

That thread makes me miss haloscan a little. Oh, the chaos was hilarious. Reloading every few minutes and trying to follow several different conversations at the same time. Good times.

This comment stuck out to me -- particularly the last nine words:

"Depending on the next two months, 'Morning Again in America' for Michigan may be a similarly empty feel-good moment followed by massive screw-ups, employee incompetence, public shame, and pain in the state of Michigan."

The Forcier "ability to destroy a planet..." one was up there a real long time. "Don't panic" not so long. Do I recall correctly? Maybe we'll have more frequent rotations.

I liked "Don't panic".

Last year Brian had "The fucking plane has crashed into the Mountain". So Brian must see some improvement in the football program to go from that to " Don't Panic", now too "Ok, but inaccurate to Ok". I agree, we are seeing the football program slowly improve. I'm hoping for a 6-6 record next season and a big leap forward in 2011. I'm still excited about the potential that RR will bring to this program after the next couple of years. I know the defense was a big rebuilding project but I think once we get the defense back to the typical UM standards we will see this team win lots of games!

I recall the quote was "The Goddamn plane has crashed into the mountain". It was at the end of the 2008 season and seemed to fit my sentiments at the time! I just hope we have put these losing season behind us! It will be tough, but I think we will win at least 6 or more games this coming season and potentially 9 or 10 wins in 2011. All we need to do is improve the "D" and we will be in good shape!

Yep, that's the first one I remember. I think it goes, in order since my first visits in 2007:

"Throwing Rock Since 1969"
"It's Peanut Butter and Jelly Time"
"Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Blogging From Space"
"The Goddamn Plane Has Crashed Into the Mountain"
"Maybe Jozy Altidore Can Play Quarterback"
"The Ability to Destroy Planets is Insignificant to the Power of the Forcier"
"Don't Panic"
"Ok. Inaccurate, but ok."

from an interview with Vlad Emilien, when he was asked whether he had any thoughts about Mgoblog. Vlad replied "it's ok, inaccurate, but it's ok".

I would not consider the source I got the information from to be particularly accurate, but that is the story. I do not have the direct quote, or the name of the person who did the interview.

Mgoblog, whatever its faults, is the best blog and board out there. But I can understand that players read a lot of stuff (speculation, or just plane crap) out in space that they know to be less than accurate.

I have to wonder what effect some of this stuff has on recruits.
