MGoBlog Message Changed
For the first time since I have been a poster here, the message in the upper left-hand side of the board has changed. It went from, "Don't Panic" to "Ok. Inaccurate, but ok."
Just a couple questions for people who have been posting here longer than I. How often does this message change? What has it said in the past?
January 28th, 2010 at 10:17 PM ^
It had the "Power of the Forcier" quote for a while, which was fun. Also "Peanut Butter Jelly Time" for a long while.
January 28th, 2010 at 10:19 PM ^
was "the ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Forcier." it changes every few months or so
January 28th, 2010 at 10:19 PM ^
There was one with a Jozy Altidore reference too.
January 28th, 2010 at 10:46 PM ^
"Maybe Jozy Altidore can play quarterback"
January 28th, 2010 at 10:20 PM ^
The latest one came from Vlad The Impaler.
January 28th, 2010 at 10:22 PM ^
It also had the "God damn plane has crashed into the mountain" (a Big Lebowski reference and appropriate for last year's football season) for quite a while.
January 28th, 2010 at 11:36 PM ^
I feel like "Ladies and Gentlemen, we are blogging in space" was featured sometime in the last 2 years, for a few months (right before the mountain?). I never really understood.
January 29th, 2010 at 12:33 AM ^
It was because MGoBlog had made the leap from the relatively simple Blogspot page to the Drupal-powered current page with the MGoBoard and all the fancy widgets.
January 29th, 2010 at 10:19 AM ^
was a reference to our new spread offense.
January 29th, 2010 at 12:55 AM ^
The reference was taken from a British band called Spiritualized. They released an album back in 1997 called "Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space." It's classic indie shoegaze.
Although on wikipedia it says that they took their title from Jostein Gaarder.

Spiritualized just announced that they will be performing the album in its entirety at the All Tomorrow's Parties festival in England this May curated by Matt Groening. I'm hoping they will announce some stateside dates soon as well.

I believe that is the new slogan for the FREEP, right?
January 28th, 2010 at 10:28 PM ^
haha I saw this on Vlad's Formspring that got posted earlier today and I lost it.
January 28th, 2010 at 11:44 PM ^
Yeah, same here. I hope this one stays for a while.
January 28th, 2010 at 10:30 PM ^
I really liked the Don't Panic. It always settled me down when I wanted to go on a rant about something and it was the first thing I saw.
Similar to when you start Skype and it says "take a deep breath"

As long as you always know where your towel is, you'll be all right.

Are you talking about the atomic doomsday clock? If this season goes poorly, I'd be in favor of changing the statement to "two minutes to midnight." Hopefully that won't be necessary.
January 29th, 2010 at 11:14 AM ^
That's what I was aiming for but I couldn't remember the official name.
January 28th, 2010 at 10:34 PM ^
my other fav: "Donny, You're Out of Your Element".
I always feel like I'm out of my element.

Something about being the most popular Michigan sports blog on the Central Asian Steppe is the first one I recall.
January 28th, 2010 at 10:35 PM ^
Its a designated coded phrase......I have almost cracked the jargon, but this looks like it may be something big. Set your secret decoder rings and wait for further messages.
The future of the football program is in your hands.

A crummy commercial? Son of a bitch!
January 28th, 2010 at 11:40 PM ^
Edit: Formerly a stupid nonsensical post. Move along.
January 28th, 2010 at 11:23 PM ^
Yup. This is what Vlad said on his twitter thing today -- that mgoblog is ok but inaccurate.
January 28th, 2010 at 11:25 PM ^
IIRC, after RR was hired, it featured Reagan's morning in America quote. That seems so humorous now...
January 29th, 2010 at 12:53 AM ^
That was earlier in '07 after Michigan beat Notre Dame. Which was the first win after starting the season with The Horror and Oregon, after ending the previous season losing to OSU and USC. We had forgotten what it was like to win a game.
FWIW The post with the disclaimer is here, but it takes until the next post for people to forget rule #1 of posting.
January 29th, 2010 at 1:12 AM ^
Ah, good call -- peanut butter jelly with a baseball bat came after RR's hiring. Thanks for fixing my faulty memory!

That thread makes me miss haloscan a little. Oh, the chaos was hilarious. Reloading every few minutes and trying to follow several different conversations at the same time. Good times.
This comment stuck out to me -- particularly the last nine words:
"Depending on the next two months, 'Morning Again in America' for Michigan may be a similarly empty feel-good moment followed by massive screw-ups, employee incompetence, public shame, and pain in the state of Michigan."

Yakety Sax can never die!
It's by far my favorite MgoMeme.

The Forcier "ability to destroy a planet..." one was up there a real long time. "Don't panic" not so long. Do I recall correctly? Maybe we'll have more frequent rotations.
I liked "Don't panic".
January 29th, 2010 at 7:52 AM ^
Don't panic had been up for quite a while.
Also had "nowhere to go but up" and "the team is under construction" for a while. IIRC.
January 28th, 2010 at 11:35 PM ^
I like the new one. It just shows that Brian and anyone else affiliated with the site has a good sense of humor. I can't wait to see Vlad crush someone.
January 28th, 2010 at 11:36 PM ^
Last year Brian had "The fucking plane has crashed into the Mountain". So Brian must see some improvement in the football program to go from that to " Don't Panic", now too "Ok, but inaccurate to Ok". I agree, we are seeing the football program slowly improve. I'm hoping for a 6-6 record next season and a big leap forward in 2011. I'm still excited about the potential that RR will bring to this program after the next couple of years. I know the defense was a big rebuilding project but I think once we get the defense back to the typical UM standards we will see this team win lots of games!
January 28th, 2010 at 11:52 PM ^
I really give up! Sorry
January 29th, 2010 at 12:15 AM ^
Don't ever give up!

Your best just isn't good enough.
January 28th, 2010 at 11:59 PM ^
I recall the quote was "The Goddamn plane has crashed into the mountain". It was at the end of the 2008 season and seemed to fit my sentiments at the time! I just hope we have put these losing season behind us! It will be tough, but I think we will win at least 6 or more games this coming season and potentially 9 or 10 wins in 2011. All we need to do is improve the "D" and we will be in good shape!
January 29th, 2010 at 12:03 AM ^
I think it said "Throwing rock since 1969" during the 2007 season.
January 29th, 2010 at 3:13 AM ^
Yep, that's the first one I remember. I think it goes, in order since my first visits in 2007:
"Throwing Rock Since 1969"
"It's Peanut Butter and Jelly Time"
"Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Blogging From Space"
"The Goddamn Plane Has Crashed Into the Mountain"
"Maybe Jozy Altidore Can Play Quarterback"
"The Ability to Destroy Planets is Insignificant to the Power of the Forcier"
"Don't Panic"
"Ok. Inaccurate, but ok."
January 29th, 2010 at 7:47 AM ^
You are either good at finding your way around these here internets, or just a few weeks away from boiling Brian's pet rabbit. Either way, carry on.
Also, an older one, via the Internet Archive/Wayback machine (warning - link takes a long time to load): "Bigger Than Wayne Bennett In Brisbane. Twenty Times Bigger."
January 29th, 2010 at 6:15 AM ^
from an interview with Vlad Emilien, when he was asked whether he had any thoughts about Mgoblog. Vlad replied "it's ok, inaccurate, but it's ok".
I would not consider the source I got the information from to be particularly accurate, but that is the story. I do not have the direct quote, or the name of the person who did the interview.
Mgoblog, whatever its faults, is the best blog and board out there. But I can understand that players read a lot of stuff (speculation, or just plane crap) out in space that they know to be less than accurate.
I have to wonder what effect some of this stuff has on recruits.

I didn't see the other thread started last night. I read the threads from top to bottom.
