Mgoblog History Thread: Funny quote about Boren from Brian
I am relatively new to the site and some of the old jokes and how the site began interests me. For this reason i like looking over some of the old posts, While looking over the "User-Curated HOF", I opened this page http://mgoblog.com/content/mgoblogs-recruiting-philosophy. I would at this point like to add that anyone who follows recruiting should open this page and read over it because I agree with just about every single word of it. However, I found this funny, and figured I would show you guys the money quote during a boring ("DAMN YOU HOKE FOR WRAPPING UP HALF THE RECRUITING CLASS IN 1 WEEKEND") weekend.
"2. Do not disparage recruits except in extraordinary circumstances.
This goes quadruple for uncommitted recruits--a recent flagrant example on Rivals occurred when someone posted some idiocy about how he doubted Justin Boren's "love for Michigan" because he hadn't committed yet. Boren committed soon after and then expressed his love for Michigan. How do you feel now, anonymous internet moron?"
The anonymous internet moron is still exactly that, a moron. But as for the "love for Michigan", hindsight is always 20/20.
Any chance any of you have found some other funny things looking back from Mgoblog history. I think this could be a interesting thread if everyone remembered one or two funny posts looking back!
The Peanut Butter Jelly banana dance when RR was hired.
I still can't look at that thing.
has the potential to be pretty damn cool. I agree that it's fun to see things that were around before we were posting/reading.
I had a "funniest comments" thread a while back and icefins26 posted a link to this thread...
http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/things-youre-man-or-woman-enough-admit
which is just pure, MGoHistory gold.
Wow I just read through that things you're man enough to admit and teared up when reading Noahdb's post about his marriage failing. I wonder how things worked out....
That really got to me. I know my comment is off topic to this thread but that broke my heart.
it was nice to see the support he got from the MGoCommunity. One of the many reasons I love spending a ton of my free time 'round these parts.
But yeah, a seriously sad comment.
RIP Haloscan.
..and everyone trying to be "first!"
Definitely HOF worthy considering it spawned a litany of smart ass follow-up comments anytime a picture of a hot girl was posted after that.
It's too bad we can't read the comments anymore. There were quite a few good ones before the lock.
Is someone had way too much time and spite on their hands to go back and neg all of my old posts.
M-Wolverine, making friends and influencing people.
I plus your new posts, so it should even out. Even if you were losing points I'd say you're still doing okay for yourself in MGoCurrency.
But yeah, people with too much time on their hands and negs not counting against the person doing the negging add up to serial negging, which is just stupid.
to 1.
What I find amusing is, if you notice, after some amount of time (have no idea how long) all the posts revert back to a standard of "1"....and/or those from the plus/minus days are converted to "1". Not +18 or -5 or whatever. So it's not like someone I pissed off went through and negged the posts I was making in that thread, or that day. They did some sad search and went backed and negged all posts from months ago....because that last thread has all 1's, and a string of 0's.
It's not a problem. Doesn't change point total. I post enough goofy gif picks to keep good karma. It's just kinda funny. So noticing it and caring about it are two different things. I usually get a good chuckle out of it, because it usually means someone lost an argument. (When I disagree with you about something, you come back with a good rebuttal, not a vote). People are funny.
It's all ridiculous, and mildly amusing. I can't imagine disliking someones internet persona and showing it by negging posts made in fall 2010 or whatever. That's sad more than anything.
Also, I don't think it's the .gifs's that keep your good karma, just saying; the random FSU girls or Kate Upton pics (not to mention TWSS posts) take care of that for you.

Chances of Hoke getting the job?
Like this thread? Hint: most posters were less than enthusiastic about the possible hire.
http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/hello-brady-hoke
Well to be fair if it's a choice between a guy who made Stanford into a BCS contender and a coach with a .500 career record coaching in the Mountain West, most people would prefer the former. This was before we got Gorgeous and Mattison as well
On re-reading Bobby Digital's post, this might be more of what he was getting at:
Hoke has a 0.0% chance of getting the job post. But I figured that was recent enough, and pretty well known, and been talked about ad nauseum, so I didn't think it really qualified for the thread theme.
Any chance we can scoop Bud Foster from VT?
For two reasons: It kind of is the right idea of what they ended up doing getting Mattsion (even from the same region of the Country), and that we ended up playing him in the bowl game. Where he wasn't given much credit for putting together a good defense that slowed down our offense.
On the return leg of my honeymoon last summer, I was sitting (in Detroit Metro actually) waiting for the last flight home and turned on the phone to catch up with life--and went here first, which shows I was addicted, and then the addiction was sealed...
This is what I read, and I literally fell out of my chair laughing. Could. NOT. control. I'm sure my wife immediately began reconsidering our recent covenant, especially since she's 'Bama and all, but gee, Brian, even if she had, I would never have blamed you...not after writing this:
- Denard's interceptions weren't zesty. They were like—and I say this in all seriousness—watching the cutest puppy in the world fly headlong into another puppy's head, killing both. The defense was like watching the puppy blood run into the gutter. This is the most precise analogy ever made. Also the field goal kicking was like watching the deceased puppies reanimate just so they could poop all over everything. The Rich Rodriguez era: defined.
That is a prime example of how talented the writing is on this site. I love it when the writer anticipates the question that they have raised in the readers mind, and answers it in a definitive, if not nonsequitor, kind of way. "This is the most precise analogy ever made."
Priceless.
One of my favorites has to be some Nebraska fan talking about bars and being hit on: http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/ot-question-you-guys-here
Love it was locked after the first comment.
I have to toot my own horn and mention the "Free FuManBlue" thread. It was a funny idea and the first I've seen that successfully infiltrated Bolivian and brought an MGoUser back home. This, of course, was back when posbangs worked. Still pretty funny to read today keeping in mind that every time FuManBlue posted he was upvoted at least 20 times.

The Rick Lumpkin thread
1. "Wife Day"
2. "Unfrozen Caveman Linebacker Recruiting"
The sweetest of all meats.
The "Hello: Michigan Robot" thread was pretty epic too:

Justin Boren is a complicated case. And attempts to boil it down to silly oversimplifications should fail.
Justin Boren didn't leave Michigan because he was all along a traiterous secret lover of Ohio State.
Justin Boren didn't leave Michigan because he was lazy or overwieght or because he didn't want to run and the Rodriguez staff wanted everybody to run.
Justin Boren didn't leave Michigan because there was too much swearing in practices.
And assuredly, Boren didn't leave Michigan because of an "erosion of family values" as the infamous Boren family press release claimed. Although it might depend on how you define "family values."
Those are some of the leading myths that survived for far too long despite the fact that none of them held much truth.
What is true is that Justin Boren always had a bit of distance between himself and his Wolverine teammates. Boren didn't spend a lot of free time with teammates, and he spent as much time as he could, basically, with his home life in Pickerington. If his father Mike and mother Hope had not been Michigan athletes, there is every good chance that Justin would never have gone to Michigan at all.
And the real, true reason that Justin Boren's personally tenuous relationship with Michigan exploded was because of his parents' massive freakout when Zach didn't get a scholarship offer for the fullbackless Rodriguez offense. Justin's parents yanked him out of school, just as surely as they had guided Justin to Ann Arbor in the first place.
I don't really see how Justin's initial commitment to Michigan was fake or phony or insincere; I don't see how Brian was so wrong in anything he wrote at the time. If there was any pre-commitment doubt about Boren's official commitment to Michigan, it got erased; he did commit. Of course no one can fault Brian for what no one saw coming in 2009 with Zach. I dare say; had Zach been offered a scholarship (as a linebacker?!?) at Michigan, I have very little doubt but that Justin, Zach and Jacoby would all have played their entire careers here. (And wouldn't it have been interesting; finding a scholarship for Jacoby Boren? As a 2012 class member, I suppose that it was probably not an issue.)
Huh. I always assumed that Justin Boren left because he sprained his vagina. Thanks for setting me straight.
You fuck how sometimes nada is much funny quotes amusing than fatheaded strange quotes that accomplish you vocalization out thundery funny love status.
