Mgoblog half decade club

I would like to take this moment to congratulate (or feel sorry for) many MGoUsers who have or will be hitting their 5 year mark soon. You have tremendous dedication to everything Michigan sports related and/or could not find another hobby in this many years. Though we may not like each other as human beings; we came together with one common interest. An undying, but a tad obsessive passion for an alma mater or team. There have been many highs and lows over the last 5 years, as well as, some interesting experiences. The jihad, the horror, fandom endurance, two coaching searches, and RollDamnTide. And that's just naming a few. Which leads me to my question, over the years what memory of the blog has stuck out the most for you?

Any story from CRex is always top notch. The MGoProfile series is also a good read. As far a new stuff on the blog, I really enjoy This Wek in the Twitterverse.

And lastly, Commitapalooza 2012 and Hello: ____ are like oxygen...

The Only Thing Corey Liuget and I Will Ever Have In Common will always have a place in my heart.  It brought incredible levity to a sad time in Michigan Football.  And it helped coin the term "dong punch" on this blog.

Strangely, I remember the exact day I signed up.

There was a certain beauty to Haloscan... I feel like it should be brought back from time to time just for posterity's sake, although the site is probably too big to handle it at this point. At least live blogs are sort of a proxy for those days.

The absolute anarchy of Haloscan was awesome to behold.

You're right, it was like a permanent Live Blog about everything, all at once.  The Michigan fan base's collective stream of consciousness.

I was on vacation in the U.P. and was without internet access for several days. When I finally was able to get online the entire site had changed and signing up was a no-brainer.

Haloscan was awesome for its time. The Haloscan thread on David Terrell and his B.A.D. was truly gold. Also I think there was a great thread on snowball fights in the quad with football players but I could be mixing things up.

I may only be 3 and 1/2 in MGoYears, but Eleven Swans was outstanding writing. Also, UFRs have changed the way I watch football. I never played, and thanks to this site I understand so much more about the game. Also, Muppets

5 years and 2 weeks over here! I don't post much, but I'm on the site every single day and I don't know what I would do at work without it!

I'm more or less like everyone else -- on this site all the time, huge Michigan fan, alum, football and basketball season ticket holder, etc.  But for whatever reason I haven't felt like I've had a whole lot to add to most of the discussions, I'm more read-only I guess.  Two weeks ago was the thread on how the local Detroit teams never draft Michigan players, and while that was true, part of the thread dealt with Michigan guys who even just played on the local teams (not that they were drafted).  I had two obscure names I wanted to add to the list.

Haha, I feel like I've been reprimanded.  I promise I'll try to post more often, like once every two years now!

I've got to think that you're (we're) part of a huge majority of readers.  Heck, I've been lurking around for 5 years, but only joined when I thought I had something original to add.  I don't choose to pile onto the posts where most everyone is violently agreeing ("yeah... that was a terrible call" ), I choose not to reveal what I'm drinking on Friday (or any other day), and I sure as hell don't have anything to add to the expert discussion on whether a HS junior projects to SAM, WILL, or MIKE.

But I do enjoy reading the posts apparently, as I'm on the site just about every day.

I just passed the 4-year mark with an account, but I've been on here pretty much every day since Fall 2006 and have rarely posted due to the demands of law school, then work, and now work and 2 young boys.

My favorite MGoBlog moment is whenever Brian mentions Jim Grobe when discussing the 2007 coaching search, as I'm the poor fool who suggested via email he might not be a bad choice.

Northwestern 2008, the lowest of lows. I stayed for the entire game and by doing that proved in no way that I was a fair weather fan. I remember driving back to St Louis and and feeling like a ton of bricks fell on me. Then Brian wrote this article below and now looking back I am proud of the experience. Like he said, it could never get any worse than that.

That was my senior year.  I was there until the end, watching the band's post-game show with two friends.  One simply said "It's not supposed to be like this" with such a heart-stopping solemnity that I will never forget it.

I forgot the name we gave it, but the Spamware shutdown (or whatever it was) sticks out.
The Liveblog from the game where RR tried to decline a dead ball foul comes to mind, too..

Anyway, I appreciate and enjoy this site, and the dedication to Michigan athletics from Brian, Seth, Ace, the mods, and users.

I may be wrong, as it's obviously been some time, but I don't believe this is the original thread that I'm referring to.  I believe it was a totally unrelated post, and someone noticed and pointed out the man we all now know as Lloyd Brady in a picture. The one that you link to is basically a continuation of that thread.

Peanut Butter Jelly Time, several months prior to my official membership date.

Also, all the hoo-ha surrounding EEEEEEEBarwis.
