MGoBlog Elite Poll aka MGoPoll

I was thinking about trying to put together a weekly poll that aggregates the top 25 rankings from MGoBlog users with over a certain number of points (500 or 1000?). It could be a weekly diary with stats and such similar to what is done with the BlogPoll. Thoughts? Point cutoff? Programs to use for rankings? Specific extracurriculars?

If it entertains us, that is "purpose" enough. I think it would be enjoyable, and would make for lively debate.

Not really any purpose other than to see the differences between the fanbase and the blog(s) we read. Just thought it would be interesting.

I personally like the concept but not the point cut off. Some of us on the site, like me, read daily if not hourly but don't post very often.

I like it. You may need to increase the number of points each week because 1000 is the new 500.

Or allow the top X points totals or something. I guess he could just send an invite to everyone over 500 now and keep that same list regardless of changes during following weeks though.

Maybe you could just go by the amount of time a person has been a member of MGoBlog. The people who match that requirement get an automatic bid to the poll. Those who don't have to apply on an individual basis with only a certain number of extra slots handed out.

it would lead to certain over posting to get there ... for instance i love the idea and would join immediately but would first have to fire off about 90 extra posts to be eligible for 500 ... i think it puts value on points that is unnecessary

Might as well allow anyone that wants to submit a poll. Because, to be honest, anyone that is willing to take the time to make a poll might as well be included.

Good point. And with all the issues people have brought up (esp the one about point boosting) that's probably how it will end up. May have to cap somehow though. I'll work on getting this set up.
