Mgoblog (Brian) Twitter rant

Looks like bowling didn't go too well

mgoblog @mgoblog 26m

I'm just done with people who are mad at me for reacting how I do to Michigan football. If you don't like it, I don't care

mgoblog @mgoblog 26m

For years I let people talk shit to me because I felt some sort of duty to them because they'd been around a while.

mgoblog @mgoblog 25m

That was a mistake. If you are surprised that I am emotional and moody at this point you are too stupid to care about.

mgoblog @mgoblog 25m

I have taken epic tons of shit for being in a bad mental spot this year; and somehow I managed to feel bad about that.

mgoblog @mgoblog 24m

No more. I'm done taking shit from internet anons because I'm not happy about losing to OSU 9 of 10 years.

mgoblog @mgoblog 24m

I don't owe you a damn thing. Read it or don't.

mgoblog @mgoblog 3m

most people are not reacting like that, but shitheads are louder. this is going to have an effect on MGoBlog.

mgoblog @mgoblog 2m

Your point total is irrelevant to my decisions. If you're making our lives shitty, you're gone

mgoblog @mgoblog 2m

This whole season has been 50% nightmare team, 50% nightmare community. I can fix half of that.

for Mathlete -- an analysis yielding a matrix taking into account point on the field and time remaining to determine whether teams are better off being aggressive at the end of the first half or better off being conservative.  Obviously, there are other variables involved.  I'd have to believe, after (if not before) we "accidently" picked up the 1st down and had the ball at our own 30, the odds would say to be aggressive.

There was to much time left (approx. 1:06) before the half to take such a conservative approach.  They had a nice run on 1st down.  As I sat at the game everyone around me was disappointed.  I felt like it sent the wrong message to the team and they seemed sluggish for several offensive series after that to start the second half.

They really needed to respond to OSU's tying score.  It took a lot of wind out the sails ending the half on that note.

That being said loved how aggressive they were at the end of the game.  A bowl win will go a long way towards setting up next season.

I posted on my Facebook and Twitter that the conservative approach at end of first half will cost us the game. People were like we get the ball first in second half. And I told them that's exactly why I try to score. if you score, then u have a chance in the second half to extend the lead at start of third quarter. if you don't it doest matter the game is still tied.

it makes no sense to be correctly aggressive at the end of the game while setting fire to a perfectly good possession before the half when you know you need all the points you can get

Actually it can, if you feel like you need to put in an adjustment at halftime.  Hoke doesn't just take chances for the sake of taking chances.  He doesn't go for it on every 4th down, for instance.  He makes aggressive decisions when he feels the time is right.

In the second quarter, OSU started getting pressure on Gardner and dropped him for a monster sack on our last real possession. I would assume we made some changes to our blocking scheme thereafter, because he generally had more time in the second half -  but that's usually something you do at halftime. If we felt like we could no longer protect Gardner adequately with the scheme we had, it may have been just as well to keep it on the ground until the half was over.

Why not go for points now AND when we get the first possession after the half? This was in response to the announcer saying it was OK not to go for it because we get the first possession in the second half. In the end, even a shot at a field goal would have had game winning implications.

What confuses me is that the same guy who went for the jugular in the second half made the decision he did at the end of the first half.

Wile is our long field goal kicker, we had 40 seconds and a timeout and we were moving the ball well. It made no sense to not give it a shot, considering the circumstances of the game and our season.

Freeze the sign-up process to keep new trolls from coming on ... and then yield a viscious ban-hammer for miscreants.  That'll clean things up pretty quickly.

I can say this because (a) I'm already registered, and (b) I'm a choir boy, all sweetness and gentleness. ;-)

Nuke the board? There's a reason this is the first comment I've left in a very long time. This site is really about Brian, his staff, and the guys in the diaries that can do things with numbers and words that deserve to be shared.

I don't know if my stuff makes it into the category of "numbers and words that deserve to be shared." Maybe it would be no great loss if they hadn't been written. But I can say this: none of them, at least this year, would have happened if it weren't for the comments. Every idea came out of something being hashed around in the comments to another diary.

I really think it's a generational thing. Most posts that point out how long they have been Michigan fans tend to be extremely negative. I guess they think they are entitled for whatever reason. I think we should remember that we are talking about college sports and we need to keep that in mind when posting positive or negative aspects of the program. We can all be disappointed I the year, however, if it really is ruining your day, week or year, look in the mirror and take some time to think about things. This post will probably get me banned but that's how I feel.

It's sad that you think you may be banned for stating an opinion that may ruffle some feathers but is at least thought out. I agree with you a bit. I've been around UM football quite a while. I am used to UM winning. When they finished .500 in 1985? you would have thought it was the end of the world. Crappy records are commonplace now, though. I do feel entitled. I hate watching us lose, I'm not used to it, and sometimes the frustration levels come out. Frustration, however, that comes out in posts knows no age...

Fair point, however, I feel a bit differently.  I started liking Michigan in the mid-80's as a kid and was there when we won the national title.  My view point is that we were an awesome program and we will be again.  I kind of have a historical dialetic view of the program and believe that we will be dominate again.  Its just a matter of time.  Accordingly, I tend to see everything optimistically as I believe we are on kind of on an inevitable march back to where we belong.  That's why I supported Carr until he called it quits.  That's why I was probably one the last guys to bail on Rich Rod and that that's why I still support Hoke.  I think we are headed in the right direction because we have to be headed in the right direction.  You probably wouldn't want me as an athetic director as I would probably never be willing to make the necessary changes, however, I think I'm a pretty good fan and don't believe that anything good can come out of bashing the program or questioning the play calling.

You make a generalization that it is a "generational" thing based off your perception that most posts that start off saying they're long time fans make negative points. I think you may be sort confusing correlation with causation. People who start their negative posts in the manner you suggest are doing so to give their negative opinion some weight. That is, my opinion is right because I've watched a lot of M football. That doesn't mean that everyone, or even most, folks that have watched for a similar length of time share that opinion.

And irritating. Telling them that because they feel that way, they're dumb? Beyond pointless and irritating into no-further-contact territory, because they're either terminally insensitive or trolling you. I'm sorry Brian is down about the Game and the board. I am ... Less down about the result than I thought. I will be interested to see the direction the board goes, because I think that the board has gone way downhill this year. As long as he's not thinking of banning Space Coyote :)

And I am a limited poster. I appreciate the insight that comes from many posters but I can't stand the childish responses by those that have to neg on others because of their opinions differ. I also can't stand all the foul name calling some people do on this blog. I'm old and don't understand the point thing and I don't care about the point thing. Just clean up the foul negging that goes on here and show some respect. It's so easy to neg on people in a blog. But grow up. Half this crap would never get said to someone's face without getting punched. Be civil or shut up. Again thanks for all those who post great info. It's well appreciated.

When you make a blog your job, isn't it kind of your job to post? The internet is quirky. I guess the ads don't pay enough to keep ones sanity.

This all day.  If Brian wants to clean up the trash just take a break from posting a lot of the content and focus on bringing back the original (not sure if original actually but the one from a few years ago) moderation system where your total was actually affected.  Everyone would appreciate it and we can all accept a couple weeks with less content.

Fandom has become about negativity. How many Michigan fans said they hoped blue lost this week for one reason or another? I read a lot on this board.

It's just easier to be negative for a lotta folks and make it about them. Personally, this is the best I've felt after a loss in my 26 years of fandom. I thought they played inspired football today.

fandom is about liking michigan. individual differences in human beings is what determines optimism, pessimism, delusion, trolling, etc.

it has nothing to do with what is "easier." it just has to do with innate human characteristics.

you can't go from saying negative fans "make it about them(selves)" to saying "Personally" in the next sentence without also making it about yourself.

if someone is negative and wants to vent, that's their purpose of going on the blog.

one which i still can't formulate a reasonable answer to...

i guess my answer would be that us fans/mgoblogcommunity aren't really a team, we're just a group of people with 1 common bond trying to maximize our enjoyment of our fandom.

optimisim and pessimism don't mesh well, and it seems like the board is more divided than it has in the past, so people are all having less fun as a whole.

as a generally negative poster, when (IF--lol i got jokes) michigan returns to glory, i'll have to suffer through people posting things such as, "i hope those people who were so down on michigan don't come out now that we're winning" or "bandwagon fans not allowed."

kinda sucks because i can't really brag and say things like "ha told you our team sucks" when we lose without sounding like a total dbag

I erased what I said because I want to get out of the habit of paying attention to whether or not people are demoralized.  I see the point in posting a response to something like "DG sucks!" or "Let's boo the players!" But I hope to just leave things alone if all people are saying is "I'm unhappy with X, Y, and Z."
