From watching the amazing U.S. women's gymnastics team last night, I started thinking about how much they have done athletically. To put in perspective, they've done more by 15 to 17 than we on this board ever will. However, that made me curious about our own personal accolades. I will start. I made the state cross country finals in high school, ran a 4:46 mile, and have 3 state wrestling titles as a coach. Let's hear yours!

Won the Michigan state championship and finished top 15 in the nation twice for BMX back when I was in my prime (8-9 years old). Gave that up after breaking my clavicle while at a race in PA.

I was way too injury prone during high school to ever get anything going. Hip bursitis freshman year, pelvic avulsion fracture sophomore year, stress fracture in heel junior year, and senior year I said screw getting hurt I'm just going to play golf.

for an inner city high school with the worst tennis team in the region. Pretty much downhill from there. Broke my leg spectacularly playing softball. I turned two nonetheless. They rolled me off the field and finished the game as I waited for the ambulance.

Used to be a +1 handicap, won numerous high school events.  Recruited to play college golf but chose not to -  got kinda burned out.  Now I am nothing more than a good member-guest player.

I did all three in HS.  Was all-conference in various swimming events and got 8th in the state (Michigan) on the medley relay.  I was decent in CC (17:30 5k).

Now I do triathlon.  Lead the U-M tri club for a few years, qualified for Age-group nationals in olympic distance, and completed IM Louisville.  Nothing special (yet).

I guess this would be a good place for my Cool Story Bro about tying Matt Schaub's team in IM softball.  Would've been even cooler if we'd won, but we didn't lose, either.  This was because our team was pretty good with quality girl players (which is always the key in co-ed IM softball) and his team was Matt Schaub and nine dudes and dudettes who couldn't hit or throw.

We might've won if we'd figured out earlier the strategy of tossing easily hittable beach balls to the hitters in front of Schaub (so as not to walk them), because literally all their runs came from him launching every pitch over the center field fence.

All conference defensive end in football. 2 time All-State & was named All-American in lacrosse my senior year of high school. Played a few years of D1 lax at Bucknell and transferred to Michigan to focus on school before realizing that I missed it and joining the MCLA team for my 5th year.

Now all I do is stare at computer screens and think about how much I miss being able to take out my aggression via body checks.

Three sports in high school:  cross country, downhill skiing, track.

Skiing was my main sport.  3x all-state.  Unfortunately, I haven't been able to race since graduating.  Couldn't turn down coming to Michigan.  Now I just run for the club team.

I also really enjoy mountain climbing (hence name...), and have climbing a number of peaks in Colorado and have done Mount Rainier twice.

All-state in XC and the 3200 my senior year of high school and, at the time of the race, ran the 9th fastest 3k in school history.  More recently, I was a member of the 3rd place CHAMPIONSHIP winning team in a local co-ed soccer league.

I played some first base in various travel leagues (never actually played for my school, oddly enough) on-and-off throughout middle school and high school. I also had the distinction of being one of the few left-handers to have caught some games as well, for as they would often tell me, "You run the bases like a catcher, so you might as well play the position."

As for actually being part of a team at my high school, I lettered...in Quiz Bowl. No, that's not a typo.

Completed 8 marathons with my best time being 3:35:51.

Played #1 singles for my high school tennis team for 3 years and won a USTA tournament at the Ann Arbor Racquet Club (Boys 18s).  Tried to play in college, but couldn't get a scholarship.  Was considering playing at Albion, but then I got in to Michigan and I wasn't talented enough to play for Michigan.

Won two IM champion t-shirts as an undergrad.  One in roller hockey, one in ice hockey.  In ice hockey, I played in the "A" division.  Once, when leaving the ice, I passed by Marty Turco who was apparently playing as a ringer for a "B" division team.  So, transitive property of IM sports, I probably could have won 2 NTs if coach Berenson had given me a shot.    /s

Actual accomplishments:

  1. Ran 7 marathons, best time was 2:58-ish (forget exact time).
  2. Mediocre HS runner, but ran a sub-5 mile in college.
  3. Won three IM titles - soccer, XC, and 1600m.
  4. 9 under par in frisbee golf while legitimately drunk.

I won the Most Improved Player on the JV Golf team in high school. What did that mean? Rising from 20th on the depth chart (including varsity) to 19th.

1. I have the unique honor that I left my blood all over Oosterbann Field House when I was knocked out cold and concussed during a Lowest Division loser's bracket non-contact co-rec Flag Football Team. It gets better, they were both fraternity/sorority teams that were awful and were around solely for the purpose of "hanging out after the game and drinking like pop or something." On the plus side, they were too afraid to move me I guess so I got an IM penny out of it. Not to be held back from the real game, I still made it to a sorority semi-formal 2 nights later.

2. My senior year in high school, my football team made it the furthest in the playoffs of any in my school's history (regional finals/quarterfinals). The team we lost to was quarterbacked by none other than MGoBlog's Lloyd Brady. I knew him during our time at Michigan, nice kid but I could never quite forgive him for that loss.

Six Zero

I started out as that defenseman who was afraid of the puck and cleared it first chance he could get; graduated to the one-dimensional cannon-from-the-point blue liner; then became a power forward and forechecking freak a la Neely with increasing confidence; became the full-blown center and playmaker but was eventually moved because I was always out of position in my own zone; and finally settled back on the wing as something of a finesse player with good touch.

I've played in leagues all over eastern Pa (except Philly) and earned all-league honors in several. What that means is that I'd be the laughing stock of the rink if I ever played anywhere near the state of Michigan.

In the middle 70's I played pro tennis for a year.  My best world ranking was 123rd.  After the year I realized that was the best I was going to be and retired.

- Have run 13 marathons, including a couple Boston's. My best time was just under 3:15 to qualify (yes I'm old).
- Played high school hockey (mostly rode the pines)

I ran 11 marathons. 3:12 PR in Boston but highlight was probably finishing on the 50 yard line of Notre Dame stadium at the Sunburst Marathon.

A few age group awards for middle distance stuff.

Climbed Mt. Whitney via the Mountaineer's Route.

I played at a real small private school, in the smallest division in Ohio, so my accomplishments mean shit. Here they are anyways:

- Golf - 3 time letterman, junior year average of 41.5; all-conference honorable mention

- Basketball - led JV team in scoring my sophomore year (whoop-di-doo); one year letterman; coach was an idiot, showed favorites (I know, yeah yeah yeah, everybody complains about their coaches that way. But the principal's son kneed a kid in the balls on purpose and he only sat out one game and started the next despite video evidence and conference rules stating that a player with a flagrant foul would sit out a minimum of two games. Thought we should have been above reproach since we were a religious school, but we compromised integrity for the sake of winning. But we sucked anyways so it hardly mattered) so I didn't play my senior year because it wasn't any fun; 2005 Jim Jackson Camp knockout/lightning champion (probably the accomplishment I'm most proud of)

- Baseball - 3 time letterman; all conference honorable mention junior year; all conference first team senior year; team MVP; played 1st and pitched

Boxed under Sugar Ray Leonard as a kid and thought I'd go pro up until maybe 16.  Started HB jr. year on a team with 3 future NFL players. Fastest 4x400 time in the nation at Penn Relays sr year but wasn't the fastest on the team by far.  Recruited by D1 for football and baseball only UMD for baseball and not great schools for football (including tulane when Rich Rod was there.)  Represented U of M in boxing several times (but it was governed by the NCBA not the NCAA after the NCAA dropped boxing).  Won IM flag football in law school (lol) Wanted to do MMA after school but too many injuries and other demands on time.

I believe my HS football team still holds the state record for highest scoring and/or most overtimes for a playoff game (we lost), it was my junior year back in the 2002 season.  (It was basically Illinois/Michigan something like 60 points for each team and 4 OTs?).

Got to the semi-finals my soph. year in college of IM 7-7 flag football, we were utterly destroyed by a team that had 1 scholarship player and 1 kicked-off-the-team player which is how they got around the rules regarding "pros" playing IM.
