MGo Veterans

Submitted by RowoneEndzone on
I'd like to start this day off with a big thank you to our veterans! I did not serve but many of my friends and family have. Thank you all for allowing us to watch football all day without worrying about being invaded by bloodthirsty hordes! While I can't buy you a drink or a coffee on a message board I can give you 2 Mgopoints if you say you served!

My uncle recently died and he'd served in the Army and Navy for a period when he was younger--not something he ever talked about much. Navy folks came and played taps at the funeral to honor him. It just made be realize how many have served and go unrecognized most days. Thank you to all the veterans.

I did not serve myself but both grandpas served in world war 2, my uncle served in the army, and my cousin is serving on a submarine. I appreciate the sacrifice of those who put their county first.

My paternal grandfather fought in WW I, other grandfather and two uncles in WW II (one was a POW in Germany for a year after his B-24 was shot down over Austria), two more uncles in Vietnam. My father and his youngest brother are both Army vets.

I have the privilege of working with the VA now (my company is providing services to the VA and veteran-owned businesses). For all of its problems - and they have many - most people in that agency genuinely care about veterans and want to serve them. It’s a privilege to do so.

I'm happy I'm out of the Army now, but damn glad I served. The whole reason I joined was bc of 9/11. Thanks to all the other Vets out there. Particularly my little sister. Big shout out to the Air Force for the rides and for the Navy running the TSA check point at Al-Asad Air base in 2011. 1st ID Big Red One, Danger Forward!

I too joined because of 9-11 and was stationed in Germany in the 1st ID. However, with the shout out to the Navy for 2011 for being TSA in 2011, I probably got out a little before you joined. I joined the when the fall semester ended after 9-11 and after the late entry program because of the health my grandpa, and getting stop-claused, I got out after the divisions first deployment to Iraq in 2005.

Served onboard Independence from 1983-1988. She was assigned to Task Group 20.5 as part of Operation Urgent Fury, the Invasion of Grenada, in 1983. In 1984 she won the Battle E award as the most battle-worthy ship in the Atlantic Fleet, a nice feather in our caps.

I did not serve but was able to provide support for our Marine and Navy troops at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, Camp Lejeune and Bogue Field.

Thank you for your service.

Spent about 15 years in Germany patrolling along the border with the Workers Paradise Prison Camp.  It is quite sobering to see entire nations holding themselves captive at gunpoint.

1975-1977. Worked with army intelligence monitoring activities in the Warsaw Pact nations. You are absolutely correct. Nations typically maintain border controls to keep people out. The East bloc maintained border controls to keep people in. Does that tell you everything you need to know about what living under communism is like??

Thank you to my grandfather who served in the Navy during WWII. He was deployed on a sub tender in the Pacific.

Thank you to my brother who was in the Army reserves and was called up to serve in Desert Storm.

Thank you to my brother-in-law for his continued service in the Army. He’s been deployed many times in various capacities.

And to my grandfather who gave the ultimate sacrifice during WWII. We never had the privilege to know you, but thank you for your honor, commitment and sacrifice.

My hotel in DC is full of veterans here for the various ceremonies. It's pretty cool seeing all the coats and hats from the services. Proud to be an American.

I'm pretty irritated that it's Veterans Day on this particular day. I had some fraud on my bank account come up this morning and I can't dispute it or get the money back until Monday.

Other than that, I appreciate those who served and hope you have a great day.

Appreciate it man.

To those negging me, I expressed my sentiment to today and what it means. I have several uncles who I personally called this morning and thanked for their various tours of duty.

And I also thank you all for your services. Sorry for not just posting a generic thing like "I love the army! God bless the USA!" for you all to upvote I guess.

To all veterans who have served. My father, grandfather and four uncles all served our country; one uncle was shot down over Italy in WWII - so sorry I never had a chance to know him......

Long list on both sides of our family. My wife’s uncle was the first Michigan resident lost in Vietnam. His name is on the Huey helicopter mounted at Vets Park in Bay City. A few other cool stories too.
