MGo Poll (Continued)

Submitted by MGoSoftball on

EDIT 1: I would like to increase my sample size from the earlier poll.  Please take the time to answer.  If you have already answered this, thank you.

EDIT 2:  That is 20/33 thus far for 60%. as of 06MAY12.

Now that the Sugar Bowl is history and we won, I wanted to ask my MGo Friends a simple question.  It is more of an informal poll really.

How many know the "whole" words to "The Victors"?

I had the opportunity to spend some quality time with my nieces (Jaycee 6 and Eleana 4).  They have an aunt who went to sparty.   I was amaized they knew the sparty fight song, every word.

The girls then asked me to teach them "The (whole) Victors, not just the "hail" part".  So I had to perform my family duties to save these young, impressionable minds.  I sat down and put in my favorite CD "Fire Up, its Saturday" and taught them the "whole" Victors, along with "Varsity" and "The Yellow and Blue".

I enjoy singing the fight song of my new Alma Mater at every worship on fall Saturdays.  I could not help but be a little disappointed because, at the Sugar Bowl, I did not hear anyone singing during the pre-game.  I know I am a little biased but we have the best pre-game in the country.  So my question is, how many people know the entire words to The Victors?

I am trying to get a little information.  My initial estimation is that about 70% of my MGoFriends know the words.  Here is a link to "Operation Hail" done by some LSA students at ohio during an under-cover mission.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oEstbblEyU

Yes, I know the words to the entire song, and I'm always the only person singing those words in my section. My ringtone is actually the second strain of the song ("Far we their praises sing...").

I also know all of the words to "Varsity", including the into that isn't played at football games. I'm working on the second and third verses of "The Yellow and Blue" and can't for the life of me figure out why we sing the first verse rather than the third.

I read the whole thing when I was in college.  At least one of my college roomates knew the whole thing.  Of the Michigan fans I know now, I'd say he's still one of the only ones that does know the whole thing.  Thinking through the Facebook friend list, I'd identify maybe 3 or 4 out of a couple hundred M alums that could do what you're asking.

For your survey: I don't.

If anyone would like a study guide, just fine yourself a prospective student.  The Admissions Office is distributing a SWEET poster this year that includes a great shot of David Hines Jr headed down the Big House field beside the band & flag corps.  The complete lyrics to the Victors appear in a sidebar.

So do I, I love the full version.  I try to play each saturday morning to fire me for game time.

Though my family rathers I don't sing along,... Something about they would rather hear the dogs howl! (Whatever that means.  8p)

Speaking of this, one thing that is annoys me is when people insert an extra "the" in the line "The Leaders and Best."   (As in, "The Leaders, and the Best!")  If you do that, it gives that line too many syllables and sounds bad.  There's a guy with seats near me who always does this.
