Mgo Heisman

Submitted by chris1709 on

With the Heisman being presented today, I thought it would be cool to see who the people on this blog would give the award to. The finalists are Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III, Monte Ball, Tyrann Mathieu, Trent Richardson.

If you would like to participate leave a comment with your top 3 and I will count up the votes before the presentation ceremony tonight.

My ballot:

1. Trent Richardson

2. Robert Griffin III

3. Andrew Luck

results:

Robert Griffin III  -  143

Monte Ball   -  83

Tyrann Mathieu  -  41

Andrew Luck  -  38

Trent Richardson  -  22

2.Luck
3.Ball
who's most valuable to the team? Stanford and Wisconsin both have good seasons without Luck and Ball. Baylor wins not near as many games without RG III.

By the definition of "the most valuable player" it can't be anyone but RGIII. Edwin Baker and Fitz would've killed it at Wisconsin in similair fashion this year, and there's no more loaded secondary in the country than LSU's. But, for the sake of the voting process.

1.) RG III

2.) Honey Badger (He didn't give a fuck about my qualms, and fought for 2nd over Ball)

3.) Monte Ball

I see Luck squeaking in with a heavy proportion of western votes, while RG III, Mathieu, and RIchardson will split the Southern vote.  Ball will get the preponderance of northern votes.

Also, from what Desmond said on ESPN earlier today, fully one-fifth of Heisman voters turn their ballots in before the final games were played, which hurts RG III, Ball, and Honey Badger. Luck got so much publicity early in the year, and it only dropped off when Stanford lost.

1. RGIII

2. Montee Ball

3. Andrew Luck

Honey Badger is great, but there were the suspensions

Trent is a great running back, but he is only on the list because he plays for Bama.

Montee Ball, in every way, deserves it more (between running backs)

RGIII is just ridiculous.

.......previous threads that RGIII should win it. However, after looking at the stats some more, this would be my vote.

1. Ball - Do you realize that in a direct comparison with perhaps the greatest college RB of our generation, Barry Sanders, that Ball only falls short in the yardage category. Sander's ran the ball at a 7.6 yds/carry clip while Ball ran for 6.4 yds/carry. BUT, Ball scored every 7.76 times he touched the ball while Sanders scored every 8.67 times he touched the ball. And this doesn't even include Ball's two passes, both completions, including one for a TD. Add that in there and Ball's scoring vs. touches drops to 7.61, one full touch better than Sanders.

Ball has been a scoring machine all year long and hands down should have won the Doak Walker award over Richardson.

2/3. RGIII/Andrew Luck - RGIII is near the top of nearly every QB category this year and produced many "Heisman" moments during Baylor's season. Luck is also deserving because of two items. During numerous games this season, Luck called the plays, in-game. And one of the best stats he can lay claim to - Luck was nearly flawless in the RZ, with 26 TD's and NO Int's. I say nearly flawless since there were some incompletions thrown.

4. Matheiu - One of the most dynamic playmakers in cfb this year. The reasons I don't have him higher is that he was non-existent on offense, missed a game due to a failed drug test, and wasn't a major factor during LSU's non-big games.

5. Richardson - I only have him here due to his invite to NY. I don't think he deserves any mention as being a candidate heading to NY. Barkley was better. Weeden was better. Keenum was better. Moore was better. And a case could be made for a couple of other players as well.

1. RG3

2. Ball

3. Luck

4. Honey Badger

5. Richardson

Trent Richardson is horribly overrated (don't get me wrong, he's extremely talented, but not a top 5 player -- I'm only including him here since he's a finalist).  His backup has much better stats than him.
