Metal-chewing wolverine attacks state of New Jersey, thousands flee

Submitted by Don on

"NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — A 40-pound wolverine had to be tranquilized at Newark Liberty Airport on Tuesday after it made a hole in its metal carrier in an attempt to escape, the Port Authority said.

The European wolverine was being transported from Norway to Alaska when it made a stop in New Jersey. At around 3:30 p.m., Port Authority police were alerted to the situation in a transport van at Terminal C.

A veterinarian from the Bronx Zoo also responded and tranquilized the animal, known for being ferocious, so that it could be safely moved to a new carrier, which was also provided by the Bronx Zoo.

The wolverine’s owner, a representative from the Alaska State Zoo, was on the scene and helped with the situation, the Port Authority said.

There were no injuries."

Obviously, this wolverine was on its way to destroy the Rutgers campus. The carnage could have been horrific.

I would hope so, and only because this would be a perfect game to test out a little psychological warfare and set the cage next to the Rutgers bench. When they ask if it is safe, an assistant just shrugs and says, "I don't think there's a problem. Normally, it takes him a couple hours at least to get through the metal..." I think we get the advantage right there.

Honestly thought this was a hyperbolic post about the Paramus Catholic pipeline MI is opening.

I presumed Harbaugh or one of the staff was the "metal-chewing wolverine attack[ing the] state of New Jersey," and which thousands were fleeing.

My well-founded but incorrect presumption made the story about an actual metal-chewing wolverine even funnier.

What a fucking monster, was the wolverine related to Jabrill Peppers perhaps? Chewing through metal takes a tenacity unknown to mankind.

That's the reason the live wolverine mascots weren't brought back in 1928 when they brought into Michigan Stadium in 1927.

They tried to chew through their cages.

Why the fuck are you caging and moving a Wolverine? How about just leaving it alone instead of transporting it to some shitty habitat for the rest of its life?

I get it, people want to be able to "interact" with animals and zoos provide people with that opportunity.  And for some animals, zoos may not be ideal but neither are they terrible for the animal given the animal's nature.

But wolverines and bears and elephants and wolves and tigers?  Nope.  Much as us humans want to see them and "interact" with them ...... unless they are in danger of becoming extinct and we can help the species survive, those animals deserve a lot better than a zoo.  Zoos aren't fair at all to animals of that nature.

First off, it's like $55 per day.  For a zoo!!!

Second, the big animals like bears and gorillas and tigers are in small areas there too.  I felt horrible for the grizzly bear, he was pacing around and literally could only go 20 steps in each direction before needing to turn around.  Such a beautiful animal, such a lousy existence.

I do prefer the safari zoos --- but even they aren't truly ideal.  The best would be "safari" where animals like wolverines still got to truly interact.  Even if that means attacking, killing and eating animals like deer.  That's what wolverines do.

in Grand Rapids. It looked medicated, depressed, and in despair. A fucking cage for an animal that roams hundreds of miles. Pathetic, made me want to break him out and set his glorious self free. Those pacing animals like lions and tigers and bears look mentally ill from being isolated in small spaces.

Not to be a debbie downer, but that picture is actually not  of a wolverine. It's a member of the Canidae family. (More than likely a melanistic coyote).  That picture has been mistagged on the internet for a long time and easily misleading for a lot of people.
