Meta: Will I ever be able to post at work again?
February 8th, 2011 at 10:38 PM ^
Suddenly I can post using IE. Fixed?
February 8th, 2011 at 10:45 PM ^
No you can't...I've got the site up right now with both I.E. and Safari and only Safari gives me the comment box. I.E. still just gives the subject line. And my office computer, like Profit, doesn't have Safari.
February 8th, 2011 at 10:40 PM ^
It's a Festivus miracle!
February 8th, 2011 at 10:41 PM ^
I'm there with you, stuck in limbo at work. Plus the fact that the Mgopoints aren't tabulating anymore is also high on the suck meter.
It's like watching 7 year olds play T-Ball where every game ends in a tie regardless of the actual score of the game. Brilliance isn't being rewarded and stupidity isn't being punished.
February 8th, 2011 at 11:35 PM ^
never did figure out the point system anyways ! I will miss the posbangs though !
February 8th, 2011 at 10:40 PM ^
Have you tried Google Chrome? Seems to be a common fix.
February 8th, 2011 at 10:43 PM ^
It takes like 20 seconds to download Google Chrome.
There's your ticket to at-work posting.
February 8th, 2011 at 10:47 PM ^
How about the points tabulation? Can Google Chrome fix that too?
If so that program ROCKS.
February 8th, 2011 at 10:50 PM ^
I think that's an MGoBlog-wide problem. I think Brian has to finish rebuilding the site before points will return to normal.
February 8th, 2011 at 11:07 PM ^
"START MAKING THIS STUFF YOU'RE GIVING ME FOR FREE BETTER, I AM ANGAR."
February 9th, 2011 at 2:03 AM ^
Settle down about the points, your a grown man whinning like a 7 year old tee ball player. Points serve no purpose, mostly to weed out the trolls.
February 9th, 2011 at 12:31 PM ^
Is that, like, a cross between whining and winning? Maybe whining about winning?
/smartass
That said, I agree on the points. Their intended purpose is often forgotten.
META: Posted with IE (for the first time since the Great Malware Disaster).
February 8th, 2011 at 10:58 PM ^
Some companies may not want their employees to download new web browsers, though. They take up a fair amount of space.
February 8th, 2011 at 11:04 PM ^
It's not the space, it's usually that their legacy software written in 1995 only supports ie6. And the people upstairs don't care about what web browser the grunts are using, since they're supposed to be working.
February 8th, 2011 at 11:17 PM ^
Chrome is like a 20mb file. If an employer thinks that is a significant amount of space, they probably haven't upgraded their computers since the 1990's.
February 8th, 2011 at 11:30 PM ^
To be fair, they are still using IE, so that's more than likely.
February 9th, 2011 at 1:32 AM ^
What noobs; IE totally sucks. They need to get with the times and use Netscape.
February 9th, 2011 at 9:01 AM ^
Earthlink FTW!
February 8th, 2011 at 11:42 PM ^
I only access this site on Chrome - works and it is simple
February 9th, 2011 at 7:17 AM ^
Corporate firewalls are a b-tch.
February 9th, 2011 at 9:33 AM ^
That's great, except my employer pretty much has the permissions on lockdown -- we can't install anything but a few select programs on our own. Chrome and Firefox are not on that list (I've tried).
February 8th, 2011 at 11:11 PM ^
i have the same problem at school, i downloaded firefox onto a flashdrive and run that while at school.
February 9th, 2011 at 9:36 AM ^
February 8th, 2011 at 11:13 PM ^
Same boat, although my withdrawal symptoms are starting to dissipate.
February 8th, 2011 at 11:17 PM ^
Google chrome works. Thanks ! Safari gave me the same problem on my Mac, but it did work initially.I got IE to work only once by changing the input format but it quickly f'd up again ( and again, etc )
February 8th, 2011 at 11:16 PM ^
also works.
If you have Firefox at work you'll be able to post.
My amazing deduction skills tell me that you do not have Firefox since you have not been posting from work.
February 8th, 2011 at 11:23 PM ^
should read "if you're not an M fan you are shit". It makes more sense. They would not even put you in remedial grammar for that, they'd send you directly to State in my era.Young whippersnappers.
February 9th, 2011 at 8:14 AM ^
I realize you know it is a colloquialism and are joking, but this particular phrase makes grammatical sense. Corrected, it does not mean "you are shit" -- it means "you are not anything" or, better, "you are nothing" (nothing = no thing or "not something"). "Ain't" corrects to "are not." "Shit" corrects to "anything" or, better, "something."
February 9th, 2011 at 8:30 AM ^
...stands. "An M fan" vice "A M fan".
February 9th, 2011 at 9:39 AM ^
My wife is an English teacher too.
/ hangs head in grammatical shame
February 9th, 2011 at 9:54 AM ^
Couldn't the 'M' also be assumed to stand for 'Michigan,' thus making that portion of the sentence grammatically correct?
February 9th, 2011 at 10:10 AM ^
That is also correct.
February 9th, 2011 at 7:30 PM ^
...but when you have a huge Block M staring you in the face, I'd say most people think "M" vice "Michigan".
February 8th, 2011 at 11:18 PM ^
You can probably still post. At least, I can with IE8 (though I'm using Firefox at the moment.) It's just, I have to wait til I've posted to see what I've written.
February 8th, 2011 at 11:27 PM ^
we're using IE8 at work and I'm the boss so I don't have any limitations on my computer, still no dice on posting through IE
February 8th, 2011 at 11:23 PM ^
A lot of companies lock down their machines so that employees are not able to install software. This way their images stay standardized and risk of malware spreading is reduced.
However, there are ways around this, such as Portable Firefox. Simply download the portable executable to your hard drive (if allowed) or a flash drive and launch the file.
February 8th, 2011 at 11:55 PM ^
Funny, though, that IE is the gaping hole in their secure environment.
February 9th, 2011 at 8:11 AM ^
True enough, however IE is the corporate standard, for better or for worse.
February 8th, 2011 at 11:24 PM ^
Buy an ipod touch. Use the app. Problem solved.
February 9th, 2011 at 9:55 AM ^
I am taking donations. Thanks.
February 8th, 2011 at 11:29 PM ^
which ap ? Does Safari work for you ? Which OS version ?
February 9th, 2011 at 8:59 AM ^
The iphone app.
From the sounds of it, a droid version is making progress...
February 8th, 2011 at 11:47 PM ^
Everybody's missing the point here. Do you really want to work for the kind of company that doesn't allow you to post on Mgoblog?
Didn't think so.
February 9th, 2011 at 7:19 AM ^
Time to find another job!
February 8th, 2011 at 11:49 PM ^
With all your apparent wherewithall, why not just get a laptop with a cell connection and do whatever you want? I am the owner of my company and can pretty much do what I please but still don't get all these "limitations" being complained about.
I don't use IE for anything, let alone this.
February 9th, 2011 at 12:38 AM ^
everybody I can post agin with Google Chrome. Now if I can just talk the Security officer into letting me download Google Chrome at work and I'll be set.
February 9th, 2011 at 3:48 AM ^
At work we can only visit .gov sites! I use my I-phone to read and occasionally post from work. Does mgoblog have a smart app for the droid?
February 9th, 2011 at 7:28 AM ^
February 9th, 2011 at 8:22 AM ^
I use my Droid a lot too. The only two bookmarks I have created icons for on my phone desktop are www.mgoblog.com and then my MGoUsername track page. (I know I totally have a problem!)
February 9th, 2011 at 6:44 AM ^
Then press save. Then, at least on IE on my computer that forces the comment screen to come up
