when i think those 'silly' wings put it on your hawks. in chicago.
fwiw, behind only the wings and the canadiens, the hawks have the best hockey jerseys.

would be an awesome thread in May or something. Taking the Wings out of it for objectivity reasons I think I'd have to go Rangers, Canadiens, Leafs, Hawks, Bruins.
It's not like you can go wrong with any though. My high school team wore Boston templates and those were some great looking sweaters.

Courtesy of too many "Hockey Night in Canada" growing up (the goalies were a constant):
1. Boston Bruins - Gerry Cheevers
2. Chicago Black Hawks - Glenn Hall
3. New York Rangers - Ed Giacomin
4 Detroit Red Wings - Roger Crozier
5. Toronto Maple Leafs - Johnny Bower
6. Montreal Canadians - Gump Worsley

have somehow warped your rankings....
love the goalie correlations. so great was my love for the canadiens jerseys that i traded my jr. wings jersey with a player from the etiboicoke (sp?) canadiens that we beat at a toronto silver stick tournament at the end of the year ('79-80)

The Blackhawks came back from a 3–1 series deficit to defeat the Red Wings in seven games. In game one, Johnny Oduya and Marcus Kruger scored in about three minutes apart in the third period, as Chicago broke a 1–1 tie to win, 4–1.[69] Henrik Zetterberg then recorded two assists, leading the Red Wings to a 4–1 victory in game two.[70] Detroit also won game three, 3–1, as goalie Jimmy Howard made 39 saves out of 40 shots, and Gustav Nyquist and Drew Miller scored in 31 seconds apart in the second period.[71] The Red Wings then gave the Blackhawks their first three-game losing streak all season, as Howard made 28 saves in Detroit's 2–0 victory in game four.[72] But Chicago began their comeback in the series in game five as Andrew Shaw scored two goals in a 4–1 win.[73] In the third period of game six, the Blackhawks scored three straight goals from three different players, including one on a penalty shot by Michael Frolik, to overcome a one goal deficit and eventually win 4–3.[74] Brent Seabrook scored at 03:35 of overtime to give Chicago a 2–1 victory in game seven to advance to the Conference Final.[75]

11 Stanley Cups is better than 5 and you've never won it back to back.

As someone who has played in both cities, I'll give the nod to Detroit.
Both the Olympia and Chicago Stadium were terrific venues, though. Old time hockey...

By forcing Dave Brandon and others to be held accountable. . .Could the Michigan fan base be galvanized to action at any other time in history than they were this year?
Could Al Borges not be held to task like he was last year? After the Notre Dame win in UTL 2, Brian came out in his UFR and warned us that the offensive line (and the whole offense for that matter) really isn't that good. He backed it up with incredible analysis and was proven correct throughout the course of the season.
I believe that if this site had the influence that it has now 12 years ago, Jim Hermann would have been relieved from his job a lot sooner and the fan base wouldn't have been held hostage by Lloyd Carr's lack of meritocracy.
I feel when I come to this site, that even if I chime in on a post, it actually matters.

Good free content on a subject I love. That's really it. Let me reiterate, the content is excellent. The commentary is decent - better than most. It's the only site I leave comments with any regularity.

But that's OK, this is the internet.

A lot has been mentioned, but:
The educated commentariat. There are not manyt places on the interwebs that can boast civil, educated debate.
This is one of them.

Is things like The Failure. I don't know anyone else in modern sports writing who can so thoroughly eviscerate a deserving and terrible entity worthy of scorn. Charlie Pierce maybe. Tommy Craggs was great at it when he actually wrote at Deadspin. Orson can send off a stiff bit of chin music. But Brian's the guy I enjoy the most.
Obviously those don't drop every day though. Brian's Previews/Gut Reviews/UFRs, and the podcast are probably the things I enjoy the most.

who is not very digitally savvy, their are several things I appreciate. First, I value the democracry of the site and the willingness to allow a wide variety of people to voice opinions and thoughts, while at the same time, protect that priviledge regardless of agreement or not.
Secondly the incredibe thoughtfulness and detail in breaking down strategies of the teams/games/sports, the insights across many topics, the BD situation, posts from pressers, the jokes, the willingness to help people with questions about UM etc., but you already know that. For only being a fan, I can't overstate how impressive mgoblog is.
On a final note, while only a fan our two kids are proud alums - when I read this blog, sending them to UM reminds was the best investment my wife and I made. For those of you who are alums, I hope you appreciate the opportunity you had. Truly, mgoblog reflects UM, the leaders and the best.

Honestly there is little I don't love. The writing, the staff, the board, the speed at which news reaches the site. All top notch and a step above other Michigan sport sites I've visited.
If I had to pick one thing, I'd say the podcasts. Brian and company do a nice job putting those together, and there has never been one I didn't enjoy.
