META: off topic etiquette?

Submitted by jdon on

The amount of people chiming in on OT posts to complain about OT posts is becoming absurd. Can we please place a moratorium on the complaining about complaining as well?

I don't want to play the it was better when card.  Nor do I want us to have to see a heightened presence by the moderators.  I just want to be able to read a thread without hearing about a hard-on, reading Magnus and the Rager go back in forth, or witness another draw in the perpetual battle between just what exactly is an adequate OT post and what is not.

love,

jdon

ps. this is my first, and hopefully last, topic I plan to start.  Please forgive any format or decorum errors.

EDIT: Someone below is correct - this is a "META" thread. To answer another question asked, anyone with enough points can create such a thread if they have a question about the site. LSA

I've mentioned in other threads that my time in Bolivia helped me to understand that I am also part of the problem, so yes there is a little irony...

That said, reading all the responses here the only hope lies in us each individually refraining from acting like a child when we have such impulses.  Is that easy?  Not as easy as it should be.

love,

jdon

The constant back and forth lately is starting to feel a lot like the RR debates. Needless to say neither side is going to win so everyone should shut the fuck up.

I've found myself bring a Dick about stuff way more lately. I feel bad for it. I don't feel like I ever start it, but no one is less the culprit than anyone else who participated, I guess.

Anyway, sorry, and I will make a converted effort in my part to refrain from doing so.

But you didn't have a sterling reputation before your meltdown, and then you went full flamebait. People bitch about users with lots of point being treated differently, but the mods have you extra leeway anyway. And you've kinda proved their point by your continued juvenile ranting.

There hasn't been much complaining about OT threads specifically. People are overreacting,

One thread was pulled by the mods because they didn't feel some Deadspin hit job about an ESPN sex scandal from 4 years ago was really something we want to have on the board.

Then another thread (that wasn't an OT thread) blew up when TheGhostofYost drunkenly started talking about his boner and proceeded to lose his shit when people said that wasn't cool or appropriate.

Then yet another thread (that also wasn't an OT thread), where someone didn't properly title their post, blew up thanks to TheGhostofYost's sock puppet accounts shitting all over the thread out of anger from having been banned.

Two of those threads had one thing in common.

If you think the second one blew up thanks to me, I suggest you go back and read it.  There were about 14 people arguing, including yourself.  In fact, you were one of the biggest contributors.  Before I even commented, the debate had already been going on for almost a page, and I seem to be the handy MGoScapegoat lately.

Btw, about 75% percent of your posts have been about me lately.  I suggest you let it go, because I'm not going anywhere.

And snarked about. He's talking about permissible OT threads where someone has to be too cool for school and come in and say "this doesnt belong on a sports blog" or "why do you like that loser" mentality. If it's offensive, or serves so small a segment of the readership then chime in.  But if it's just not your cup of tea, just skip it. No one cares that you don't like it. (See: "I hate the NBA/hockey/soccer/etc" or "Game of Thrones is for neeerrdddddssss."

We all LOVE Michigan sports. That is the reason for this blog, a community for us all to share the love. That gets forgotten way too quickly, and then things get out of hand and we start a battle royale against each other. We all just need to quit acting like any one person on here is better than the next, and just enjoy the blog for what it is. Maybe some people need to be a little (or a lot) easier on some other people, and maybe others need to grow up. Either way, everyone just do your part and quit arguing about senseless stuff please. Let's all just get along and share our love for the amazing UofM. Thank you, that is my rant.

But, my points say I am better than you.  And Brian's points say he is better than everyone else!  This thread is giving me a nice stroll through memory lane and a chuckle though.

This is the worst part of the year to be on this blog. I think I only check this site maybe twice a day on the weekend. You maybe see two or three threads a day posted in which they have been already talked about the day before. The list of people posting during the summer gets shorter and shorter. There just isn't enough stuff going on in sports right now and people are starving.
