META: Site Problems - Being Taken to External Sites

Submitted by MJ14 on

Is anyone else having an issue with clicking on a topic and it taking you to another website? I have no issues on any site, but this one. It just started this afternoon too. I was on during my lunch break and everything was perfectly fine. Now anytime I try to click a topic, it takes me to an external site.

Edit: To be more specific this is the link it was sending me to - http://pluto.tv/watch/late-night-tv?utm_campaign=reg-brand-pu&utm_sourc…

My wife isn't even home and they're not sites that even related to that. As I said, this is literally the only site that is doing it. Also when I signed on I noticed there was a small gap between the banner and the rest of the forum that was a different shade of blue. It looked like someone had been trying to code something. That's the only reason why I asked if anyone else was having the issue. I wouldn't have even said anything, but I can't read a single forum topic.

No need to be ashamed for looking at porn. Everyone does it - even wives, sometimes.

Just the other day, my wife came up behind me while I was watching Slut Wars, Episode X - Return of the Bukkaki and caught the climactic scene (so to speak) before I shut down my browser.

The virus that was on here a few years ago was definitely a reason I brought it up. Like I said, no other sites give me issues. Also I'm running a completely clean Mac, and this was the only site with issues. I figured with the blue line maybe they were trying to add something?

On 2 different iPhones, through the browser, and only on this site. It usually takes me to the App Store after routing me through some adtracker. It's really annoying.

On my phone for a while. Android. So I rooted it and installed adblock. Problem solved.

Also, if you live in metro detroit don't bother looking at porn. Contrary to what Chris Rock says, there is sex in the champagne roomm

I e-mailed Brian something similar to this almost a month ago. I go to the "tracker" within "Recent posts" - this shows all posts, whether it is content, diaries or the board, in order of last comment first. It used to have hundreds of pages of post all the way back to the first ones, but no longer. I even know how to get to the older pages by URL, but to no avail any longer.

Brian replied that he had to shut down these old pages as it was slowing down the site to a crawl. I am guessing that this is what you are experiencing with the older board pages.

Yes. You must be signed in, and then you can either go directly with what you typed or just go the upper left under your screen name hit the "Recent post."

What was nice it there is a tab on top of that list of recent posts for YOUR recent posts. For those who comment a lot it was a nice way to keep track of recent activity of threads that they had commented on, but it hasn't worked for a while.

And there was a META post from someone (SR Kass I think) thanking whoever fixed it. It is quite annoying, as if you're not on multiple times a day, during times of frequent content creation (valuable or otherwise), you need to click to Page 2 to see what's been posted in the "recent" frame.

But a few days after the fix, it went back to broken.

I'm using Chrome on a PC.

I've never had this happen in either Chrome or Firefox on the laptop, but I've been taken to the iTunes store (and other places - not porn, not yet anyway) when reading the blog on my iPad.

As for some items  mentioned upthread - clearing the cache (which I sometimes forget to do) managed to mysteriously fix the search function, although it is still occasionally buggy. If it gives 404 errors even after some memory clearance, then I am not sure what it might be. The paging buttons seem to work during lower traffic moments (early morning, later evening on a non-event night), but otherwise you basically have to open a new tab to see the next page.

I also have this issue on my phone. Android/Chrome.

I really wish Brian would just hire a pro to re-do the whole site. Have a fundraiser for it if need be, though shouldn't be that costly.
