META: Podcast iTunes issue work arounds

Submitted by WGoNerd on

Since there is an ongoing issue with the Podcast and iTunes, does anybody have any good work arounds? Maybe different apps to download to get the Podcast on?

I'm on an iPhone.  The new episodes haven't been showing up in My Podcast feed, but I was able to find them by searching in the podcast store.  More specifically, in teh Podcast home screen, select the "Search" button in the lower right corner (not the "Search My Podcasts" button at the top of teh screen).  Then type in "Mgoblog" and you'll be able to click on the MGoBlog podcast towards the bottom of the screen.  The next screen will show all of the episodes - including the one from today.

I've had the same issue. The podcasts are not automatically updating as before. The search feature does help with the work around though. I'm sure an update is in the works soon.

Mgopodcast isn't the only podcast that has weird issues like this. For the podcast aficionado like myself, we're all too used to iTunes doing weird things like randomly unsubscribing you from some podcasts, deleting episodes you haven't listened to, downloading a bunch of stuff you've already heard for no reason, etc. This isn't even the only college football podcast I've had issues with, as Podcast Ain't Played Nobody is constantly ghost unsubscribing.

Yes! I will have these problems all the time! The most annoying one being where it'll download a ton of old stuff for no reason. One day it says you have like 100 podcasts you haven't listened to and you check and realize it downloaded a bunch of old stuff randomly. The Podcast app is a great app, but you have to pay the price of it's annoying instances like these.

Ditto. Course the few on our staff who haven't gotten the hell out of Applestan are constantly pressuring the rest to follow. But we owe it to those of our brethren still trapped in that dictatorship to try to make sure they still receive the same basic services, y'know?

Hi Seth,

I downloaded the last 3 podcasts from the subscription page, because they didn't automatically load.  I couldn't find them in my queue until I scrolled all the way down and discovered that they were being treated as "oldest" instead of "newest" because they had a date/time stamp of December 31, 2000 at 7:00 pm.  This may be why they don't automatically download (because they're not "new"), or even after they are downloaded, cannot be located (especially if you have a long queue).  I'm hoping that if you fix the time/date stamp, this will fix the problem. FYI, I use the "My Podcasts" app for iPhone.

If you're on an iPhone, delete the native podcast app and use Overcast. Much better solution and it has never presented any issues in the year+ I've been using it.
