META: offseason blog suggestion ("Goodbye: __" posts)
I was just looking over (and enjoying) some old "Hello" recruiting posts and thought that it might be fun to have "Goodbye" posts to bookend these guys' Michigan careers.
Obviously, there are a lot of ways to do this, but I'm thinking about positively toned posts ("Those who stay...") that let us relive some of the highlights of their careers, look back to their recruiting profiles, think about their contributions and stats, and maybe have some parting words or stories from the players themselves (or thoughts about their next steps in life). I'd imagine that it's hard to fill an offseason with high-quality content, and I could see this being cool for both the readers and players.
If you were to do one profile for each major contributor and four-/five-year scholarship player, then maybe a single profile for the non-scholarship guys and one more post for the guys who left along the way, you'd probably be looking at about 20 posts per year.
Just a thought.

This is a really really good idea.

This is a great idea, I support this and would like to see happen if the mothership can make it happen.

Already planned sir.
I did that thing last year in time for senior day and nearly killed myself. This year I'm dealing with a family issue and won't be able to write them until after OSU most likely.

That’s cool – and I don’t remember it for some reason – but I think there’d be something extra cool about giving each player his own post, adding depth to each profile, and maybe getting comments from the players themselves. I also don’t think there’s any rush to do these. For example, it’d be just as fun to see these goodbyes around spring commencement time as it would right as their senior seasons end.

Seconded. Maybe every Saturday in the offseason, feature one senior until they run out. Stats, high points, maybe some insights on their personality. I think this would be better served as a weekly thing instead of one post with sections on each person. Done right, it could be valuable content and emotionally oniony.

That times 10, content-wise, would be pretty cool.

As others have said, take your time. It would be interesting for example if the posts of those who go pro were done post draft. Some time could be taken to discuss how they might fit into the scheme their NFL Team runs, etc. We always have a massive deadzone over the summer where these could be scheduled to run.
Those who leave organized football behind after the bowl game could run earlier perhaps.

last year I managed to get it in HTTV. I kind of like having that as a feature for the book.

I'm already kind of doing something like this on Denard. It will be posted as a diary later tonight.

Great idea. And Seth, Brain, and the other MGoDictators, this idea should really be embraced - an as-inclusive post as possible for each contributer, and then maybe a general post for the many others. What is so fantastic about many of your regular posts, and particularly the "Hello..." posts are that they are inclusive and follow the same standards. Treat these "Goodbye..." posts with the exact same intensity and focus and it would be a MGoBlog killer tradition! They should incorporate the "hello..." posts as well so we can remember the journey and tie these two posts together.
I wouldn't worry too much about doing it now or after OSU. It can even be in the spring, etc. This gives you enough time to do it right and gives another fantastic tradition.
This should really be done.

This is something I would like to see as well. I'm especially interested in seeing something about the non-scholarship players and non-starters, since they are the ones we rarely hear about. They may only play on special teams or the practice squad, but they still are an important part of any college football team.
