Here is an MLive article about Trolls. I thought it actually was very similar to here and what goes in with our less "intelligible" posters. I know that we don't have as big of a problem as MLive does with Trolls but it is still a big problem here. I thought it was worth a read.

That site got troll infested years ago.  I haven't been on mlive or  what is now annarbor.com in the last 2 years.

Hopefully, the negbombs will keep those trolls out of mgoblog.

less unintelligible.

Trolls can be fun. Trolls are lacking something in their emotional makeup. They can somehow fill that void by making posts that provoke a lot of emotional responses.

how badly that column made me want to write a crappy comment about the author being a woman or something just to do the very thing the column poorly complained about.

not to mention you fail to mention the fact i very adamantly opposed the objectification of women with animated gifs, or the use of icons and names that glorify hitting them. the point of my post, to spell it out, is that the post solicits the very thing it crusades against bc it is so preachy. that's why there's 300+ comments on it and a large number have been deleted: because people were tempted to troll simply bc the article railed against it.

ugh.

Yet you posted that reply calling the author a "woman.". Double standards are rampanttin your world. What will we do without geaux blue judging our posting quality. You must be the authority on top posters...since Brian demoted you after your infamous tantrum. I guess we should all be ready to be judged on every one of our posts.

You would think most people would just stop going to sites that are infested by trolls, or just learn to not react to them. They are, in fact, trolling themselves when they react to them. And then it becomes a big ol' circle jerk of trolling.

True, but if the collective effort isn't there from the users, then what is one to do? All of the commenters on that MLive post just seemed very arrogant and unitelligent. I suppose you can make a living running a site with that kind of readership, but it definitely isn't what you're aiming for when you start the site.

Anyway, this site seems very good, overall. I think most of the bad posting is a product of the month without football and nothing but coaching speculation, etc. It's not something that will be permanent. Most fans (at least here), and myself included, are of the opinion that UM should keep RR, but if he is let go and Harbaugh is hired, so be it. Once all of that is solved, it should be fine. This site has a great relationship between its moderators and its common posters. As long as that relationship is sustained, this will be one of the better collegiate sports blogs out there.

And delete points for a user who posts something that they think is an illegitimate POV. Such as the guy who posted that female B-Ball players are not as qualified as ex-NBA players/coaches to provided expert commentary on NBA games. He not only had the thread deleted, but lost 1000 points for the awful, sexist opinion. That was me.

Frank: Charlie, who's playing the troll guy?
Charlie: You're gonna play the troll guy.
Frank: I'm the troll guy?
Charlie: Who else would be the troll?
Frank: Oh! I like that.
Charlie: All right, good.
Frank: Can I do it naked?
Charlie: Absolutely not. Why would you wanna be naked?
Frank: Because in the '70s, everybody did theater naked. Everybody got laid all the time.

Frank: (singing during rehearsal) You want this baby boy's hole, / You gotta pay the troll toll—
Charlie: Stop, stop, stop, stop. All right, uh ... not bad. Good rhythm, love the enthusiasm. I feel like you're saying "boy's hole," and it's clearly "soul"...

Frank: (singing onstage) You gotta pay the toll troll / If you wanna get into that boy's hole. / You gotta pay the troll toll to get in. / You want the baby boy's hole, / You gotta pay the troll toll. / You gotta pay the troll toll to get in. / Troll toll!
Dennis: What'd you say?
Frank: Troll toll!
Mac: Hey, hey, hey!
Frank: Troll toll!

Does anybody remember that 150+ comment "Stop posting boobs and/or NSFW stuff" forum topic?

You know, the one that was trolled into oblivion?

Good times.  Good times.
