meta: MGoBlog iPhone App in app store
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mgoblog/id390344884?mt=8
2 weeks after I submitted it, the MGoBlog app has finally been approved and in the app store.
Please download and enjoy.
The app is free, but supported by iAd. Please occasionally click an ad (it won't take you out of the app). Especially click if it's not for some other app (the non App ads pay better). Brian and I will split the proceeds (Beveled Guilt, without actually having to pay).
I've described most of the app's features in the following thread:
http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/meta-mgoblog-iphone-app-beta-testers-wanted
I wanted to get the app in the store for the season, so not all the suggestions have made it in. I'll try to get in as many requests as I can over the course of the season (and with some help from Brian).
Let me know if you have any major issues or requests (that haven't been mentioned in the other thread). Also, please rate the app and say nice things in the app store about it (you can email me any criticisms directly).
UPDATE:
IMPORTANT! Please make sure you put in something in the subject field when you post something.

Now we just need one for android

I agree. Then my addiction to mgoblog would grow exponentially. Although, that is hard to imagine because it is already astronomical.

It's a great app, just downloaded it, well done elaydin. Everything works well, no glitches yet for me
September 13th, 2010 at 7:43 PM ^
Posted from the app. How does she look? Sexy, damn right.
September 13th, 2010 at 7:48 PM ^
Thanks for feeding my voracious appetite for unverified voracity! It looks great.
September 13th, 2010 at 7:52 PM ^
Outstanding. Thanks guys!
September 13th, 2010 at 7:45 PM ^
Happy to click on some ads for you..
September 13th, 2010 at 7:48 PM ^
Thanks guys. Posting from the app now.
September 13th, 2010 at 7:52 PM ^
One thing I should mention... I don't automatically generate a subject like the mgoservers do (yet)... so you should type in a subject for now.
September 13th, 2010 at 7:48 PM ^
Using to post this. Well done boys.
September 13th, 2010 at 7:50 PM ^
Yes! Looks great.

(for now)

just throw in a placeholder for now. "Posted with the MGoBlog App"
September 13th, 2010 at 7:53 PM ^
Downloaded. I am glad it is finally here. Thanks!
September 13th, 2010 at 8:01 PM ^
Nevermind. I got it.
September 13th, 2010 at 8:01 PM ^
you do need network access... or else it will kick you out (i'll fix that).
I'm also having issues viewing this thread, which I suspect might be an issue with the lack of subjects in some of the posts.
September 13th, 2010 at 8:01 PM ^
Humble request for option to view oldest comment first.
September 13th, 2010 at 9:09 PM ^
I thought I could sneak that one in before I left for vacation (and had to submit tha app), but it turned out to be a little trickier than I expected. I'll give it another shot.
September 13th, 2010 at 8:03 PM ^
and thank you very much!!!!! It is SO going on the front page!
September 13th, 2010 at 8:08 PM ^
i'm stoked. no more dealing with slow safari. it works great except, when trying to read this very thread, the app crashes. (other threads work fine)
September 13th, 2010 at 8:15 PM ^
pretty sure that's an issue with the no subject posts. I'll submit a fix in the next couple of days). Until then, people should always include a subject.
September 13th, 2010 at 8:26 PM ^
roger. could you mention this in your original post? it would help to minmize disabling the board for iOS users in the meantime.

I'm one of the original beta testers. I'll continue my comments here rather than the original thread: The app crashes when I open this board topic, but not others.
Also, and this will probably be a biggie for Brian, the UFR tables display all wonky. I meant to address this last week but didn't get around to it.
September 13th, 2010 at 8:30 PM ^
I tried to make everything that I saw on the front page in late August work, but there will still be some issues. For example, the blogpoll looks funny too.
Please let me know if there are other front page stories or diaries that look funny.
September 13th, 2010 at 8:59 PM ^
Because I had no problems with the beta reading that way. In fact, I preferred using the App for that data heavy post vs. Safari.
September 13th, 2010 at 8:27 PM ^
It'd be cool if once you've logged in the login button changes to logout.
Great app! Pretty much exactly as I had envisioned in my "if I only read that stupid programming for iPhone" book I got last Christmas... oops...
September 13th, 2010 at 8:31 PM ^
Is there any way to make it compatible for anything pre OS 4.0?
I know I'm a luddite, but I still have the old 3G and I refuse to upgrade after all the horror stories I've read...
On the other hand, this may just force me to buy a new one.
September 13th, 2010 at 8:52 PM ^
Initial feedback is that 4.1 has shored up a lot of the performance issues w/ the 3G (assuming you aren't going to jailbreak route) you might try that and see if it's ok.
"It also addresses problems with Bluetooth connectivity, and slow performance for users running the iPhone 3G."
September 13th, 2010 at 9:04 PM ^
Now I just have to wait for a jailbreak and unlock so I can use it on my 3G with T-Mobile.

First app icon I've ever designed. Very happy with how it turned out, Elaydin-- nice job.
September 13th, 2010 at 8:39 PM ^
The icon looks great! Thanks!

tried the liveblog replay and it works great. have you tested the liveblog.... live? you will have many more followers during the game if it works.
September 13th, 2010 at 9:03 PM ^
Saturday, I did all my posting on the Liveblog on it. I think it works better getting the stuff in better than the straight internet. Only couple of things...if you don't have a lot of memory, and you click on something, sometimes one of the Liveblog ads come up, and you have to exit by going back to the frontpage listing, then click back in. But it loads way faster than straight internet.
And you never know what the mods see and grab and what they don't, but I got the feeling it went through better if you go "done" with your typing board before you click "send". Might have just been my perception, but when I just went from my typing screen and clicking send above it, it didn't seem like they were getting accepted. Which has seemed to be the case with the regular mobile access too. But it might have just been the luck of the draw.
(Don't have a laptop, so when I follow along on MGoBlog, whether open threads or liveblogs, I like/have to use my mobile. So this App might be most valuable for that for me).
September 13th, 2010 at 8:57 PM ^
sorry if this was asked or im not seeing but can you give someone a point? Don't see the point box anywhere?
September 13th, 2010 at 9:06 PM ^
But no voting, yet. Likewise it doesn't tell you that you've read the posts when you log back in proper.
A lot of the current state of affairs were answered in the Beta thread:
http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/meta-mgoblog-iphone-app-beta-testers-wanted
For easy access, or people who weren't around or remember the thread....
September 13th, 2010 at 9:07 PM ^
Did you?
(And I actually felt honest doing it, because I've been using it for awhile, and literally nothing's come up since my last batch of suggestions. It can grow, but I've not really found any bugs with it).
September 13th, 2010 at 9:16 PM ^
So far it looks much better than when I read it in google reader. Well done!!!
September 13th, 2010 at 9:19 PM ^
i would love to get it but i have an ipod touch so it says i'm incompatable. is this just because i havent updated it in a long time? or is it iphone only?
September 13th, 2010 at 9:28 PM ^
I've been using it on a touch. Assuming it's the second gen touch or newer, it'll work fine.
September 14th, 2010 at 9:32 AM ^
How to you get it to update to iOS 4? I've been trying to get it to update, but it just tells me that 3.1.3 is the newest version and won't let me update.
September 14th, 2010 at 10:35 AM ^
maybe your iphone/ipod is too old?
http://www.apple.com/iphone/software-update/
The site above says to also have the latest version of itunes.
September 14th, 2010 at 11:51 AM ^
I think my iPod might be too old. I'm not positive which generation it is (bought it refurbished off the internet), but I wouldn't be surprised if it was 1st generation and not compatible with the update. Boo...
September 13th, 2010 at 9:23 PM ^
Wow, this is fantastic. +1 and nice job!
September 13th, 2010 at 9:56 PM ^
Elaydin, I'm clicking on adds and pos banging you for this one! Thanks!
September 13th, 2010 at 10:31 PM ^
You open up the page, and it says iAd at the bottom, and it's just that gray fancy paper background but for the corner. Nothing to click. Maybe just yet.
