Meta: MGoBlog email subscriptions?
I have an idea for the blog that I don't know if is even feasible much less worthy, so keep that in mind. I know at times people are traveling, prefer to not read the site from their phone due to formatting or browser problems (I'm looking at you blackberry), or unable to check the blog (whether because it is blocked at work or bogged down with other tasks), but like to read the front page content as soon as possible. Would there be a way for some type of email subscription that would send out an email blast to all subscribed users' given email address that includes the front page content whenever it is updated?
Now I understand to some extent that this would take hits away from the page, which is why I would be fine with some sort of subscription price for the "distribution service". The email wouldn't allow access to comments, diaries, the board, etc. so I wouldn't think it would cut down on a huge amount of page views, especially since I imagine only the die hard junkies like myself would pay for a email subscription to get new front page content ASAP by my email. I would also think that it could actually promote page views via a link in the email to get users to come to the site to discuss the article.
I don't know about you, but I would pay $20ish/year for get front page content emailed to me as soon as it's available. This is only marginally less than a SI subscription. What do you guys think? Is this even possible or worthwhile, or is my addiction reaching unhealthy levels?
EDIT: So apparently this all can be done for free by outside sources. I know nothing of the workings of the interwebs.

You could set it up in Google Reader.

See, this is what I get for only going to mgoblog on the interwebs. I have no clue what else is out there.

Google reader is also a way to go on mgoblog at work, without the obvious maize and blue theme fo the mgoblog website. I'm a fiend, I know.

Yeah, to be honest I never use Google Reader even though I have it. I'd much rather waste the extra time to poke around the site, but it can be very useful at times.

I think you're problem can be found here:

Work phone. Everyone is given a Bold. Hate the small screen and having to scroll everywhere to view anything. That said, it's not worth it for me to buy an additional smartphone and pay $100+ a month. But I agree with you.

if you just want to know when to go and check the site (the above RSS options will require you to be on a comp and aren't straight text feeds) - create a twitter account and friend mgoblog. set it up for automatic notifications of his tweets aka you get a text with the content of the tweet Brian makes. he is damn near religious with sending out a tweet each time with a minute of when a page is uploaded.

Only problem with that is you'll get all his other tweets (which are usually interesting/funny), and an extra mgo.lici.ous tweet with almost every frontpage post.
It's fine if it's in a twitter feed on your PC, but if you're getting texts for each one it could get a little bit annoying I would imagine.

but i already get it. let me look for the way to do it. i get a daily email with all the front page content. unless you mean a push each time a new post is released.

Yeah I was hoping for a push with new material when it's posted.

You can get twitter updates via SMS. The only downside would be that not all of Brian's tweets are announcing new posts, so there'd be a bit of noise mixed in too.

where he's putting furniture together while drinking, there's limited clutter and the RT's are almost always 'news' this person would be wanting. mgolicious is once a day.

All you BB users who are struggling, I hear ya..... I had the same problems. BUT, you can download the BOLT mini browser (free). It provides full web page views of all sites, including this one. I love it.

Would be to get MGoBoard on an RSS feed. Not so easy to do -- maybe in digest form?

I setup an RSS feed through my work email (Outlook) and every time the main page gets updated with a new post i get it emailed to me probably within about 5 or 10 minutes. In the "email" i get it contains all the text and pictures, but not any videos or comments. If it's anything i want to comment on or see the video for, then i can login to the site if needed.
Works awesome for these purposes.
