META - MGoBlog for Android issues and fixes

Submitted by oneilse14 on

First and foremost I really want to apologize for the state the app is in right now. A lot of you have emailed me with bug fix requests, and I don't want you to think I forgot about you. As a senior in Engineering here, I got swamped with projects and homework right around the time the Services module broke down a while back, and as a result the app is in a sort of weird limbo with a lot of patches and hacky fixes.

BUT... I also wanted to let you know that I'm devoting the next two weeks to releasing a huge update that should get rid of most of the suck. And by that, I mean

  1. Mgo.licio.us threads will actually open
  2. Revamped comment layout, with revamped posting screen as well.
  3. Ability to post new threads.
  4. Post caching so you don't need an internet connection all the time
  5. Tablet optimization

If anyone wants to beta test, send me an email at [email protected]. It really helps for testing when a bunch of people with different devices can test.

Thank you for making this app. It is much better than using the browser to read mgoblog.

However, I have one small gripe.  Is there any way the comments can be listed from oldest to newest? Currently, I scroll all the way to the bottom of the page to the oldest comments and then read upwards. This doesn't have to be the default setting, but the option to switch to it would be nice. This might be your "revamped comment layout" but if not, it would be great to have.

I didn't see these on your list.  The first one is the critical one.

I can't login, and therefore comment on a post, from my android phone app or from my iPad app.  Tried many many times.

Also, my ipad, android, and web versions all rank posts differently.

No m.go.delcious on the iPad.

Thanks for all hard work.

Good luck on your degree!

I assume I speak for Mr. O'Neil on this, but if you have an issue with the apps, it's better to just contact the developer directly and not bug Brian.  Our emails are easy enough to find.

The iOS app is done by a different developer, so I can't speak for him. What version of the Android app are you running? Have you downloaded the latest version? Try resetting your password and see if that helps.

If you're having trouble on both the android and the iOS version, it would seem the trouble is somewhere else.  Do you get a message after trying?

Can't remember why I had to disable m.go.licio.us on the iPad.  I'll fix that on the next release.

Also, what do you mean by "rank posts differently"?

I can log into the iPad but not the android (Samsung Galaxy SII).  It only says "login failed"

The iPad gives me the option to rank new or old first.

The android ranks new first but starts with a bunch of admistrative stuff (there should be a separate way to get to all the admin stuff plus the board easily on all the apps and web)

The browser ranks oldest first (maybe im inept but I cant find where to change it to "newest")

I have a Samsung galaxy s2 and have no problems signing into the app. In fact I am posting this from the phone. There is a way to reorder posts on the website, but the Android app doors not have the option yet. I'd suggest clearing data for the app in settings. If that doesn't fix it, just uninstall and reinstall.

When I go to www.mgoblog.com on Firefox, I get routed to a website named www.soursaltybittersweet.com, which is all about baking bread, or something.  This started happening at least three weeks ago; and it happens every time.  If I use Explorer, I don't have a problem.  So I haven't worried about it.  But I wonder if anyone else has noticed this issue with Firefox.

BTW, your apps are awesome.  Sure a few bugs but these apps make Mgoblog so much easier to use.  No other blogs go to this level.  Congrats and I love the photo on the iPad.  I hope everyone can access that.

Also, have you considered going to HTML5 or using a platform like appcellerator?

I've kinda decided to give up getting the video to work when reading the site with firefox on my tablet.

Now I'm wondering if the embedded video is supposed to play inside the app, or if it is supposed to be launching a firefox tab to play the video.
