Has anyone else noticed that android app using a lot of battery. The app appears to be waking the system when not in use. I'm using the Note 2. That's a pretty sizable amount of usage on that size of a battery.

It has been taking up a lot of battery for me lately. I have a Galaxy S3 Verizon, and I've taken to killing the app after using it. I don't know what has changed though, since it never used to do it.
So you're saying that we all are sucking the life out of you (r phone)? Wait till you (r phone) gets married and has kids!
Disgruntled former moderator. I got a lot of problems with you people!
I've always had problems with it eating battery. I'm on my 3rd different Android phone in the past couple years, and it's been a problem with each phone.
I just checked my phone. The app used ~3% of my battery.

and the mgoblog android app doesn't use any of my battery. Well it uses some only like 2 or 3% though.

I've never noticed any problems with it on my Galaxy Nexus. I don't often use my phone to check in here though.
It probably has more to do with your usage than anything else. And if you aren't in the habit already, I always get rid of apps from my multi-tasking menu once I'm done with them. That might help with your battery, since apps are still technically "active," even if not currently in view.
Hell, in the last year I've had Note 2, S3, Razr, Rezound, Nexus. Never had a problem with the app on any of the phones until the last month or so. The app hasn't been updated in 10 months. Not sure what it could be. I've cleared cache/data. I may end up uninstalling and using Chrome.
It does go crazy every once in a while and take almost all of the CPU. I usually kill the app after using it. It seemed like the problems started after I upgraded to ICS. The app has kinda been abandoned (or at least there has been no update in ages), and I think something with the new flavors of Android doesn't play well with the app. I use Watchdog Lite to warn me when an app goes above a certain threshold of CPU usage, and the Mgoblog app frequently gets flagged for going nuts. I just make sure I kill it every time I am done using it instead of just "back"ing out of it.
The mgoapp is currently using 12% on my note 2. Still, I screw with my phone quite a bit (what i would consider moderately heavy usage) and regularly get 21-22 hours off a charge. My photon would be lucky to get 8 hours with that kind of activity. Granted, that was on Sprint with piss poor coverage and my note is on Verizon...
You obviously missed the part where I said that I have the Note2. The razr maxx is not a solution. I don't have an issue with battery life; I typically get 30 hours out of the note. I was more or less wanting to know if an update is in the works or anybody has witnessed the same thing on their phones.
Have had multiple Android phones and the app is just a mess. It serves its purpose but is far from efficient as well documented. It is what it is.
It's been a while. I apologize for the lack of updates, but senior design and the Engineering school in general caught up to me and I had to put MGoBlog on the backburner.
Luckily, I'm graduated now and have a lot more free time work on the app. I rewrote the whole thing to get rid of the suck, and it's going pretty well so far. If you want to see an early beta build you can download it here:

... shows promise, but not ready for daily use (as I'm sure you know). I look forward to the stable release.
I'm a .NET and web developer mostly, but I've been wanting more and more to try Android development. If you're willing to share your source code, I'd love to dig into it a bit.
I've got a couple ideas for the MGoApp that I've implemented in other languages (specifically converting plain text and line breaks to HTML formatting), and I think the same principles could probably be applied to the app relatively simply.
If you have any ideas about converting plain text to links and converting Youtube iframes and embeds to use the Android Youtube API, I'm all ears! That stuff has been bugging me for a while now.
Source code is public and ready to be forked. https://github.com/SeanPONeil/MGoBlog
It cannot be easy and was going to ask if it was a student or freelance designer. I'll check out that beta build as, unlike another poster stated, I do use it everyday. This is how I view the site now and rarely use my laptop anymore. I'll make sure to give feedback! Thanks for details and hard work on it!
Thanks for your work dude! Any plans to come up with a tablet-optimized app (for a 10" screen)? I just got the Nexus 10 and would love to see the MGoBlog app formatted for the bigger screen size.
Just a pipe dream though, I understand you've probably got higher priorities.
That's actually what I'm working on right now, and it looks a lot better than the mess it is right now on tablets. I'll keep you posted.
The iPad version is pretty awesome. A similar setup for Android-based tablets would be the bomb.

I've used the app on two different phones pretty much since it came out, and I've never experienced any significant battery drain.
I suggest getting BetterBatteryStats:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asksven.betterbatterys...
It gives you more detailed information on the specific processes that are causing wakelocks and draining your battery (like processes that are lumped together as "Android System" or Android OS" in the system battery meter). It could be that you have a stray process running that keeps loading up the MGoApp for some reason. It's $3.00, but it's money well spent.
It's one of the least battery intensive apps I have, barely noticeable on my Motorola Photon.
The swag is back.
