Meta: Jaded Yet?

Submitted by Geaux_Blue on

How many people are so exhausted by this whole ordeal that they have now become more amiable to the prospect of hiring a coach they dislike simply because it means things are over? Perhaps this is all a diabolical plot by Brandon to have us feel defeated by everything so much that we don't question the hire and become united as a result.

I, for one, welcome our new Miles/Hoke overlord as long as it happens soon.

(fwiw I don't think DB has messed anything up - I believe it's the nature of these things to take as long as it has, relying upon the notion that the hire is announced by Wednesday)

I have become so worn out that I believe 100% that Gruden will coach michigan, and refuse to listen to any "reports" unless they are from DB himself. I figured that if I was just going to accept that X person would be our coach, it might as well be someone awesome.

While I usually recoil slightly in revulsion at all the "pimp hand" nonsense, I think you've nailed the sense of defeat that makes prostitutes acquiesce to their pimp's wishes. This just got all too real. Please, Dave, make it stop. Just pick a coach. I'll accept him. Whoever he is.

I will be extremely pleased when this is all over. As long as the guy that is hired seems somewhat competent in football knowledge, I'll be happy. I'm all in for moving on.

I ask myself every day if I'd smile if DB announced Hoke as our head coach, and so far, no smile. I hope I don't get to that point, but I wouldn't put it past the realm of possibilities.

On the contrary, Im somewhat ok with the fact we don't have a coach yet because it means we don't have a less than ideal  coach. I'd rather this take a little time now, since it's already late as it is,rather  than to just take anybody. The longer it goes the less chance of Hoke IME.

I'm seriously considering putting myself into a induced coma if Brady Hoke is hired and not wake up until either A. its over or B. we have a winning season. Coma might be considered until this coaching search is over too.

I have changed my mind on Miles more because of his multiple sets from the Cotton Bowl than anything else.  Also, good candidates signing extensions or going elsewhere has thinned the talent pool a bit.

I will still be extremely upset, though, if it is Hoke.  And, after venting for 48-72 hours, I will start supporting him, because there is no use turning into a whiny hypocrite just because I didn't get to see "my guy" get hired.  Besides, from all reports, there are more than enough of that kind of person around the program; it's why were are in this mess today.

For me, the pain that this search is, has been, and will be, is worth it if we don't get Hoke, who is the coach I don't want. So, no, I'll soldier on for Miles, Gruden, Patterson, or whoever mystery candidates are out there.

In Ancient China, jade was believed to hold preservative powers.  Jade was extensively used in burial offerings and sewn together to make coverings for the dead.

Back during my single days, when I would write to women on Match.com, I always prefered a no thanks to a no reply.  With a no thanks, it's unambiguous.  With no reply, there is still hope, but that is quickly subsumed by fear.  But any shred of hope is clung to like a life raft.

Hope dies last.

I was jaded long before this all started sadly.  With that being said, my years of therapy did not prepare for the roller coaster that DB has put us on for the last month an a half.

I dont go on any other sites, I always have a window open on my netbook for mgoblog. I click refresh like a lab rat hitting a feeder bar to get a food pellet. My wife put a mirror under my nose earlier today to make sure I was still breathing.

I want this to be over, just so I can take these kleenex boxes off my feet and stop acting like Howard Hughes. However, I live in Cleveland, I am about to move to Columbus. My wife is an OSU grad, and we are expecting. So, for wholly selfish reasons, I choose to suffer though a thorough and successful coaching search now, because this HAS to be the right move.

If we enter a prlonged phase of substandard results, and my progeny ends up falling into the clutches of the dark side....oh go oh god oh god...I cant even think about it.

Please DB, think of the children

Of the following candidates, none of whom would be universally liked, who would get the most ardent support from whatever minority that they command?

  • Les Miles
  • Brady Hoke
  • Jon Gruden
  • Rich Rodriguez

I'd lay odds that not one of those guys would get a majority, and that all of them would have, in political polling parlance, "some strong negatives."  But I'd also bet that the one guy who'd have a more ardent plurality than anyone else would be... Rich Rodriguez.

I think at this point I count as jaded, yes. If by "jaded" you mean "my psyche has retreated into a happy place and won't come out until football season starts except to bitch in the event of a brady hoke hiring, but even then only a little bit."

In one of my jobs doing individual therapy last week, I kept a straight face while a guy told me about getting his childhood jollies by using bolt cutters to remove the feet from cats and dogs he would trap.  He would then set them on fire or throw them from rooftops or both.  So yeah, CC stuff is frustrating, but real life is more jading.

I completely agree I just want this to be over so I can focus on something other than mgoblog for a few moments. I'm constantly being drawn back to my comp just to check the page and then immediately regret doing so.

The OP is right.  We should just hire the first person that walks into Schembechler Hall just so this whole ordeal is over with.

BECAUSE WE'D RATHER HAVE A COACH NOW THAN A GOOD COACH LATER.
