Meta: iPhone app version 1.1
Version 1.1 of the MGoBlog app is now in the app store.
It adds/fixes a few things that have been bugging me, and probably others:
1. You can now have comments listed "Oldest First". The option is available under the login menu (shown below).
2. You can now reload the board listing without going to the previous menu and coming back in. Pull down and press "reload". Image below:
3. There's now an email link in the "About" screen to my email address. Use this instead of bugging Brian.
4. Following links within a post/comment will now open a resizable browser window that works like you expect it to work. Backing out of that window will also take you back to the post, instead of all the way back to the board list.
5. App will now detect all links within a post/comment, even if they're not actual html links.
6. Board listing will now reload after waking from the "background" state in phones that support multitasking.
Let me know if you have any issues or requests.
Enjoy.

Not yet. Brian wants to wait until the offseason to incorporate points.
October 18th, 2010 at 10:13 PM ^
Being able to pos points would be cool but I would find it even more helpful to just be able to see how many points a post has earned.
A lot of times I only have time to just scan a thread and the point system helps me to pick out which posts to read.

That's not good. Sent you an email. Hopefully we can figure it out.

I haven't updated yet but mine always used to crash when I wasn't connected/had low signal to the Internet

Looks like we fixed this issue. If anyone else was seeing a "1 1 Token" message when trying to login, please try again.

I knew I shouldn't have bought that 1st gen iPod Touch. Enjoy it extra just for me everyone! Looks awesome.

My bigger problem was starting St the bottom, but replies would still "go down" (like the site), but then further responses wouldn't stair-tier down, but be above, so I could tell which came first. This seems a lot more logical.

This covers pretty much every complaint i've had so far. Great app and keep up the good work.

Thanks for all the hard work Elaydin.
October 17th, 2010 at 10:49 PM ^
on this. It's made my iPhone experience that much better!
October 17th, 2010 at 11:15 PM ^
... how long it took me to figure out comments weren't oldest first, and I was really struggling to figure out what people were talking about. Great addition.
The refresh board link is also a great add. Thanks again for the work.

Just go to the main site on the iPad. The app is great, but the full site is better IMO.

Looks great!
Is there any possibility of getting a version that works with devices not upgraded to iOS 4.0? I have a jailbroken/unlocked iPhone 3G that I use outside the US, so I haven't been able to use the app yet.

I'll look into this... it should certainly be possible.

made traveling a pleasure.

for all the effort you have put into this!!!

As the iPhone is pretty much my only pathway to the Internet (and therefore mgoblog) all updates to this app are greatly appreciated. The site provides such a wealth of information and this app makes it so accessible to those of us who are constantly on the go!

<br>Thank you very much for all your hard work!

AFAIK no android developer has yet stepped up to the plate on this.
I'm not an android developer but I know my way around a programming language regardless; I'll consider taking a look into the SDK today after work.
October 18th, 2010 at 10:53 AM ^
I thought someone volunteered, but I haven't heard anything in a while. Keep thinking I should download the SDK... but then job/kids/wife/sleep gets in the way.

Are your priorities, man!?!
October 18th, 2010 at 11:15 AM ^
I'm working with Brian on the Android app. There's a pretty solid prototype in place that gives you a nicer view of articles, the forum, and diaries, and we're working on logins and posting now. Hopefully there will be something out in the next few weeks, although we might not have all of the features of the iPhone app right away.
A small teaser:

I can't wait. It will be like an early Christmas present.

Great app -- I use it all the time. Fixing the comments order is a huge help.
Here are some others:
- App crashes if I try to open it without an active internet connection
- Web pages opened through the app don't scale correctly
Some improvements that would make my day:
- Offline browsing of MGoBoard, Diaries, and the main blog (as a guy who is often on the NYC subway, where there is no cell reception, this would be huge!!!)
- Having an option to open a weblink in Safari (by holding down your finger on the link and bringing up a dialogue box)
October 18th, 2010 at 10:51 AM ^
The web page scaling is fixed in this release.
I'll try add some sort of error message for the lack of internet connection.
Offline browsing... that would require you guys clicking A LOT more ads

A Blackberry app would be nice, but I won't count on one. Blackberry never gets the cool apps.
October 19th, 2010 at 10:32 AM ^
As noted above, I said I'd consider picking up the Android SDK last night - I did, and also grabbed the BB SDK since I was out and about on the internets. As also noted above, there's somebody working on an Android app as we speak. I spend a bit of my spare time working on a pair of pet projects, but don't mind putting another project on the burner.
Is there significant demand for a BB app? I.E.: attention Blackberry users, you should speak up here. A +1 on tlh908's post will suffice as speaking up.
October 19th, 2010 at 10:38 AM ^
Not sure BB users would be reading this thread. Maybe you should start another one. I was surprised at how many iphone using mgoblog readers there were... though the ipod touch certainly helps with that.

Would it be possible to add an option for font size in the future? Maybe something like small, medium, large. It's still too tiny for my old eyes. Also, what's up with the blue-grayish abstract screen? I feel like the app's interface could be more aesthetically pleasing. I also think a white background on the icon would kick ass.
October 18th, 2010 at 10:58 AM ^
I'm open to any artwork or visual improvements people provide. The current background and icon were provided by SixZero.
October 18th, 2010 at 11:28 AM ^
Awesome. I sold my iphone and got an android phone and I really miss having an app for the site.
October 18th, 2010 at 9:30 PM ^
An edit function would be pretty swell. Particularly when you can't see the post you're replying to.
October 18th, 2010 at 9:56 PM ^
Thank you everyone for the kind words and suggestions, but what Brian and I would appreciate more than anything else would be if everyone who uses the app clicks on 5 ads a day... or at least every new ad you see.
October 18th, 2010 at 10:09 PM ^
an "off season incorporation" as well but, I would love it if when I clicked on a thread from the app if it was reflected as viewed when I logged into the site from my computer later on. Not sure if this is possible or not.
Thanks for all of your work, it is much appreciated and I will click on an add every time I use the app.
October 18th, 2010 at 11:43 PM ^
That's an offseason Brian thing. One thing I was thinking about was giving some indication of how many new replies a post has had in the last hour (or some other period of time). Maybe even add a "hot" indicator. This way people know what threads have heavy activity, even after they've fallen off the top of the board listing.
