meta: fixed some css things
1: signatures will now appear correctly on the initial posts of diaries and forum posts.
2: images and video embeds will no longer spill over into the right sidebar. they'll shrink (or expand) to fit the size of the comment.

Should a user a reach a certain point threshold before they are allowed to moderate comments and vote on posts?
September 24th, 2011 at 1:53 AM ^
I think that is set at 100 points.

aewsome maintenance update...nice!

Let's test out the embedding:
Umm, do we have to do something to make it resize?

I guess it kind of works but I don't think I'll be embedding as much if everything has to be this tiny. Having avatars on the side of posts instead of above them wastes a lot of space.

Or when you want a bigger version, you click the "full screen" button. Not sure why people are complaining. Having the overspill was much more annoying especially when you didn't care about said video or humongous picture.

it's still possible if you really want to do it. Just use
style="width: 560px"
or whatever width you want it. you'll have to specficially ask for it to break it now.

OK, good news that I can still annoy people by blocking the sidebar with the smallest default embed size, but why do I have to when there is more than 560px between the sidebars? Sorry to nitpick but this has bothered me for a long time.
September 24th, 2011 at 1:24 AM ^
that img tag specified the width.
style="width: 1280px; height: 720px;"
if you don't specify the width it will be the right size.

Okay. I just used the embed button so I didn't intend to specify the size. Let's try again.
Edit: It seems like the embed button automatically specifies the height/width. I came back and removed the size by hand. So embedding videos will work well since you have to use the plain text editor and copy the embed code. But I imagine most people embed pictures just using the button, so they will probably still overhang.
I don't know if this is possible (and if so, may not happen until the offseason) but I would suggest that the embed picture button does two automatic things:
- Remove the size tag by default. That way your new fix will work on pictures. If somebody wanted to specify the size they could.
- Make the picture a link that opens the original picture in a new window/tab. Now that pictures will be scaled down (which is good) sometimes they will be hard to see.

It looks like the sidebar headings no longer bust through the imbed images. (Or does this just happen on videos?)

Bonus points if you can fix the "Internet Explorer wants to download file" bug that pops up on my ancient browser at work. Downloading files is very bad news at my work. Like, start looking for another job bad. Anything you can do to remedy this would be greatly appreciated.

Either lobby your IT administrator for awesome network priviliges or consider other work, in your case. What browser do you have there, out of curiosity?

Running on XP. Probably IE6?
September 24th, 2011 at 4:19 PM ^
IE6 is notorious for being the worst browser in the history of the internet.

I propose widening the content width (or at least the option to do so for those who choose?). Though I do agree that spillovers are annoying, especially when I want to look at the message board / links sidebar and have to navigate to another page.
Feel like I have a lot of wasted space outside even the sidebars relative to most sites...

every time the comment response indentation goes beyond the third level, or when I try to watch BoyzinthePahokee vids obscured by column headings.

Maybe this can be done with a browser add on or something. And maybe it's just my crappy laptop screen but I have a hard time finding links in comments or original posts. Especially when people just use one word as the link. Is it possible to change the forum-post-content or comment-content links to underlined text or a lighter shade of blue somehow? I would love it if the links caught my eye more. Does anyone else have the same problem or have a solution?
And awesome update! Embedded objects spilling over onto the right sidebar was my biggest pet peeve of this site. Keep up the good work!

if this a bit off-topic but I've had trouble changing my avatar lately. I'm getting the below error message:
- The selected file could not be uploaded, because the destination sites/mgoblog.com/files/pictures/picture-edited.jpg is not properly configured.
-
Failed to upload the picture image; the pictures directory doesn't exist or is not writable.
Anyone else experiencing this or know of a workaround?

You're taking requests (it seems), I think a slushee machine in the break room would be awesome. Also, make sure to get good flavors, like Coke and cherry, but not that white cherry crap, that's nasty. Thanks!

Should probably read "MGoPoints: ∞"

You should pull the office space copier scene on your PC just for having IE6 still.
